Sat 19 Aug THE THUNDERBOLT TRAIL RACE (NSW)
The Thunderbolt Trail Race presented by Salisbury Lodges, runs through patches of untouched forest in the Barrington Tops National Park. The course takes you winding past cascades, eucalyptus, across and through subtropical delights of the scenic Williams River valley, while entering an enchanting patch of ancient rainforest. For those wanting an extra challenge, the course heads up the Corker Trail and its not called the Corker Trail for nothing!! This part of the course is a high altitude, high-octane adventure in the rugged mountain country. This challenging track follows the ridgeline from Lagoon Pinch picnic area to Carey's Peak on the Barrington Plateau. We promise it won't just be the scenery that takes your breath away. Winding through a variety of vegetation, from tall open woodlands to lush rainforest and cool temperate stands of Antarctic beech, your vigorous effort will be rewarded with brilliant views near Corker Mountain. A family orientated, fun filled running weekend. Events include a kids fun run, 5 Km and 10 Km on the Saturday and half marathon, marathon, marathon relay and mountain bike marathon on the Sunday. The course consists of 95% off road with single track, fire trails and bike tracks around the surrounds of the city on a section of the Wiradjuri Walking Track. All finishers receive a medal. Sun 20 Aug 64KM KURANDA TO PORT DOUGLAS ULTRA TRAIL RACE AND RELAY; 16KM BUMP TO BEACH (QLD)
This 64 kilometre point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Teams of 2-4 runners can also complete the full course. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. There is a shorter 16 kilometre race on the same day, starting at the top of the Bump on Black Mountain Road. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! Early Bird entries end at 9.00pm on 25 May. Located on the stunning Sunshine Coast, Queensland near the barrier reef and Steve Irwin's iconic Australia Zoo, this not-for-profit event has been timed to make the most of the ideal Queensland winter running conditions. Blue skies, low humidity and mild temperatures - combined with a flat course always enable fast times. The course record currently stands at 2:18:30 set by Ethiopian, Samuel Woldemanuel in 2015. Event distances include the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km and the 2km. Each road race follows the stunning coastline of Alexandra Headlands with white sandy beaches and spectacular vantage points alongside the ocean. On Sunday August 27 this year, the iconic Pub2Pub Charity Fun Run and Festival celebrates its 25th year of raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthy local charities on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Money raised is donated to organisations including Bear Cottage, the Children's Cancer Institute, Manly and Mona Vale Hospitals, Life Education Australia and White Ribbon Australia. The Ross Marathons started in 2004 as the "Festival of Marathons", a series of athletic events aimed at fostering community participation in physical activity and the enjoyment of a healthy lifestyle. Events include: Marathon Half Marathon 10km Run/Walk Childrens Challenge Team Marathon (max 4 runners) The marathon was dedicated to the memory of US born athlete Dean Thackwray who competed in the marathon at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and later settled in Tasmania. Thackwray died of cancer in 2003. That first year 70 runners took part in the various events that over the years have included the full, three-quarter, half and quarter marathons, a team relay event and a fun run/walk. Today each year sees more runners coming to Ross to participate in the unique experience that it the Ross Marathons. Ross Marathons is a non-for-profit event. The St.George Bank Beachside Dash is BACK for a big 10 year celebration on Sunday 10 September. The Dash offers something for everyone with 10km, 5km and 2km events. You can double or triple up and knock over up to 17km before lunch. The Dash course follows the beautiful beachside path from Dolls Point to Kyeemagh, near Brighton-Le-Sands, Sydney. The course will follow the newly formed track from 2015 to allow runners of the 10km and 5km to remain on formed, fast foot path for the entire race, making it ideal for setting that personal best time. The BRT Run is an out & back course from Queenscliff to Drysdale Railway Station & return (34km) or one-way Drysdale to Queenscliff (17km) along the BRT. There is the option of taking the Bellarine Railway's steam train to the 17km start. The trail is tremendously scenic and ideal for running being wide, well marked and all on smooth, unsealed paths aside from the 4.5kms at the Queenscliff end (sealed).
