Looking for a dirty weekend? Well we offer the best dirty weekend in the Hunter Valley for you! Come to Dungog on the last weekend in May (24th and 25th May 2014) and participate in the Dungog Duathlon, a 10-40-6 dirty duathlon. That is a cross country run followed by a mountain bike ride and finishes with a cross country run and there's great entertainment on the Saturday as well! This event is organised by the Rotary Club of Dungog with the help of other organisations in Dungog such as the SES and CWA and all proceeds raised are returned to the local community. Willow Tree Flat, Audley, Royal National Park Some of Australia's loveliest bushland is right on Sydney's doorstep: there is no better way to appreciate and enjoy the sublime Royal National Park than running along its extensive network of tracks and trails. For the first time, enjoy a new Marathon course through the heart of Australia's oldest National Park. This is not a "technical" trail run, the course following mostly fire trails and well-graded walking tracks. Park at Loftus Train Station and take the event bus to the start ($10 return trip), or park at Willow Tree Flat (Park entry fee of $11 applies). |Sat||16 May||THE GREAT BREAKAWAYS MARATHON (SA)
The Great Breakaways Marathon travels from the Breakaways, along the Dog Fence, down Kempe Road (road to Oodnadatta) and finishes at the town oval where it wraps up with a BBQ. Participants can either walk, run or ride the distance as a personal challenge or as a group completing a portion of the distance together, doing either 5, 10, 15, 21 or the full 42km (can only walk to 21km). Participants are required to pay an entry fee (a portion of the fees go to a chosen local community group or cause). Dungog Duathlon 2015: The Toughest in Australia! Race Date: 24th May 2015 Looking for the toughest Duathlon in Australia? You found it. Being hosted by the Triathlon and Marathon Club of Dungog, the Dungog Duathlon is tough, no doubt. It is also one of most picturesque, being set in beautiful Hunter Valley of New South Wales. The races on offer include the ULTRA (being a 10-40-6, Individual or Team entries) and the SHORT (being 6-12-2). These races are challenging. We aim to host a great family friendly event, so please take a look at the programme for 2015. All profits are returned to the local community with a focus for 2015 being local charitable organisations. For many years the Half Marathon weekend has been a major annual event in the calendars of YCRC members and other local and interstate runners and the tradition continues. Saturday 23rd May offers social runners and families a chance to compete in shorter runs, and Sunday 24th May is the day of the Half Marathon. Mark off the weekend of the 23rd/24th May in your calendars for the 2015 Half Marathon weekend! Rex Foulkes, in whose memory this event is named, was a local distance runner, who died in a road accident returning to Cooma from Canberra after a race in 1970. The first Rex Foulkes Half Marathon held on 13th September 1970 had just 24 finishers. In 2014 there were 373 entrants.
