Sat-Sun 27-28 May YMCA OF CANBERRA HALF MARATHON 2017
The YMCA of Canberra 2017 Half Marathon features a beautiful and fast course around the western basin of Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra. The weekend will fall on May 27-28 (with the half marathon on the Sunday). This race has been a major annual event in the calendars of YCRC members and other local and interstate runners and the tradition continues. Sun 28 May SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL SERIES 1: "COTTER CANTER"
A trail running "taster" at Canberra's original family playground, the Cotter. The Series starts with a moderate-grade 5km course (the 10km completes 2 laps) comprising a paved loop on the "Cotter Dam Discovery Trail" in the shadow of Cotter Dam, followed by a contrasting loop on walking tracks and fire trails with a river crossing, a hill and a sandy beach – a bit of everything. Park at the end of the Cotter Bend picnic area, off Cotter Rd. Run and power walk up Mt Ainslie at 12.45pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Free. Start at Remembrance Park, Treloar Crescent, Campbell (behind the Australian War Memorial). Finish at the tower on the summit of Mt Ainslie. Make you own way back down the mountain. Altitude at the start 595m. Mon 12 Jun SRI CHINMOY HALF MARATHON / 5 MILE RACE / 2 MILE RACE
A favourite event on the Winter calendar, the Sri Chinmoy Half Marathon is staged in and around Telopea Park on the Queens Birthday public holiday Monday. Also featuring 2 shorter races over the classic "Imperial" distances of 5 miles and 2 miles. Post-race breakfast for all. Start 9 am for Half Marathon at Telopea Park East car park, 9.30 am start for shorter races. Bravehearts 777 Marathon - Australia's biggest run to protect kids. Lace up your running shoes and get involved in this year's Bravehearts 777 Marathon by running the 777 Marathon in your home state. Held from 26 June - 2 July, the mighty Bravehearts 777 will see runners of all abilities participate in marathons in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra and Kingscliff with the event culminating in Australia's largest marathon on the beautiful Gold Coast alongside more than 25,000 competitors. Sun 2 Jul SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL SERIES 2: "TUGGERANONG TROT"
The Sri Chinmoy Canberrra Trail Series heads to Tuggeranong for a varied exploration of the Murrumbidgee Corridor. Barely minutes from the Town Centre, you'll think you were miles from anywhere as you wend your way northward through bushland, and return along the riverside walking track. The 8km course loops around at Tuggeranong Creek, while the 20km goes as far as Kambah Pool before heading south. Parking is at Pine Island North picnic area, at the end of Pine Island Rd, Tuggeranong. On-the-day registration opens at 9am and closes at 9.45am, with races starting at 10am. Two genuine off-road duathlons – short course and long course – in the heart of the city. Sun 30 Jul SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL SERIES 3: "GUNGAHLING GALLOP"
Canberra's north side hosts the Series finale. The track from Hall through to Oak Hill along Gungahlin's northern fringing ridge is the Rolls Royce of Canberra Trails. Especially commissioned for the Centenary Trail project, this beautifully sculptured track is a work of art, a trail to fall in love with… To fully appreciate the varying vistas in each direction, you really need to run this wonderful track both ways. Starting and finishing at Hall's historic Showground, both courses ascend to the summit of One Tree Hill, from where the 30km continues following the ACT/NSW border. Sun 24 Sep SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL ULTRA (103KM)
The Sri Chinmoy Canberra Centenary 100km trail run was staged in 2013. With Canberra now 104 years old, in 2017 the event grows to 104km. Starting and finishing from The Rond Terraces, the route explores Parliament House, Red Hill, Isaacs Ridge, Farrer Ridge, Mt Taylor, Mt Arawang, Cooleman Ridge, Stromlo Forest Park, the National Arboretum, Cork Oaks, Aranda Bushland, Black Mountain Reserve, Mt Majura, Mt Ainslie and Lake Burley Griffin.
