The YMCA of Canberra 2018 Half Marathon features a beautiful and fast course around the western basin of Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra. The weekend will fall on May 26-27 (with the half marathon on the Sunday). This race has been a major annual event in the calendars of YCRC members and other local and interstate runners and the tradition continues. |Mon||28 May||SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL SERIES 1: "COTTER CANTER" 2.15KM, 5KM & 10KM
A trail running "taster" at Canberra's original family playground, the Cotter. The Series starts with a moderate-grade 5km course (the 10km completes 2 laps) comprising a paved loop on the "Cotter Dam Discovery Trail" in the shadow of Cotter Dam, followed by a contrasting loop on walking tracks and fire trails with a river crossing, a hill and a sandy beach – a bit of everything. A new 2.15km short course for Novices and Kids has been added to the program. Park at the end of the Cotter Bend picnic area, off Cotter Rd. A favourite event on the Winter calendar, the Sri Chinmoy Half Marathon is now staged in and around Lennox Gardens on the Queens Birthday public holiday Monday. Also featuring 2 shorter races over the classic "Imperial" distances of 5 miles and 2 miles. Post-race breakfast for all. Located in the rural hamlet of Wamboin, just 20 km east of Canberra, the Kowen Trail Run will see competitors run across the border into Kowen Forest in the ACT to participate in either a marathon, half marathon or 12 km course. The event is open to all levels of trail running experience. The courses are challenging, well marked and have spectacular views of Canberra and surrounds. The Sri Chinmoy Canberrra Trail Series heads to Tuggeranong for a varied exploration of the Murrumbidgee Corridor. Barely minutes from the Town Centre, you'll think you were miles from anywhere as you wend your way northward through bushland, and return along the riverside walking track. The short 2km course heads south and back again; the 8km course loops around at Tuggeranong Creek; while the 20km goes as far as Kambah Pool before heading south. Parking is at Pine Island North picnic area, at the end of Pine Island Rd, Tuggeranong. Canberra's north side hosts the Series finale. The track from Hall through to Oak Hill along Gungahlin's northern fringing ridge is the Rolls Royce of Canberra Trails. Especially commissioned for the Centenary Trail project, this beautifully sculptured track is a work of art, a trail to fall in love with… To fully appreciate the varying vistas in each direction, you really need to run this wonderful track both ways. Starting and finishing at Hall's historic Showground, the 2,2km meanders around the foreslopes, while the 2 longer courses ascend to the summit of One Tree Hill, from where the 30km continues following the ACT/NSW border. Two genuine off-road duathlons – short course and long course – in the heart of the city. Run through the grounds of the National Botanic Gardens, mountain bike and second run in the natural forest of Black Mountain Reserve. Start time 10 am, starting at the end of Frith Rd, Acton. Short course is 2 km run/7 km mountain bike/2.5 km run. Long course is 3 km run/23 km mountain bike/7.5 km run. A member of the Association of International Marathons & Road Races (AIMS), the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon and Community Running Festival is one of the most-loved running festivals in Australia. Since its inception the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon has raised over $1.3 million for charity and community groups. Located on the stunning Sunshine Coast, Queensland an hour's drive north of Brisbane this not-for-profit event has been timed to make the most of the ideal Queensland winter running conditions. Blue skies, low humidity and mild temperatures combined with a flat course always enable fast times. The course record currently stands at 2:18:30 set by Ethiopian, Samuel Woldemanuel in 2015. Event distances include the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km and the 2km. Each road race follows the stunning coastline of Alexandra Headlands with white sandy beaches and spectacular vantage points alongside the ocean. The Half Marathon is a one loop course with Marathon entrants completing a multi loop course (1 x 21km + 2 x 10.5kms) making the most of the on-course entertainment and crowds of spectators before a red carpet -hero- finish. With a distance to suit every ability and age group, this community-focused, world-class athletic event caters to all those wanting to take part, including families and those with both physical and intellectual disabilities.
