Mon-Sun 25 Jan-5 Jun ASICS ELLEKER HALF MARATHON AND 10K ROAD RACE, ALBANY (WA)
The 21st Asics Elleker Half Marathon (21.1K) and 10 km road run is an annual event, presented by the Albany Athletics Club Inc. The event attracted over 190 entrants, with participants traveling from as far away as Perth, Busselton, Bunbury and Esperance to take part. The event is conducted in and around the small township of Elleker, situated 12 km west of Albany, (400km south of Perth). The course is a pleasant, relatively flat route around Grassmere Lake, traveling through picturesque karri forests and farmland. The mild weather at the time of the event (Sunday of the June West Aust long weekend) makes for perfect PB distance running conditions. After the event participants are provided with a soup and roll, before the prize presentations. Sun 1 May SRI CHINMOY SYDNEY 2016 SERIES RACE 3 - ROYAL NATIONAL PARK MARATHON, HALF-MARATHON, 10KM & 5KM TRAI (NSW)
The Sri Chinmoy Sydney Series goes bush, to the sublime Royal National Park south of the city. Immerse yourself in pristine forest on a lovely trail run. Because you’ll want to enjoy this magical realm to the max, a full MARATHON joins the Half-Marathon, 10km and 5km for a full suite of classic distances. Parking is near Willow Tree Flat, past Audley. National Park admission fee of $11 per vehicle applies. Alternatively, take our shuttle van from Loftus Station for $10 return, departing regularly from 6.30am. On-the-day registration opens at 6.30 am and closes at 7.55 am. Sun 1 May O'KEEFE RAIL TRAIL MARATHON (BENDIGO TO HEATHCOTE) (VIC)
The Heathcote Community Games and Athletics Bendigo on May 1, 2016 bring you an off-road marathon on the historic O'Keefe Rail Trail. Following the path of the original railway in 1888 the trail passes through spectacular natural bushland and waterways. Completed for cycling and recreational running in 2015 the O'Keefe provides the opportunity to get off the bituman but on a not so daunting surface for those who are off-road running enthusiasts. Other events as well as the marathon is a half marathon, 9.5km fun run and Ekiden Relay. Run with a Story is a registered non-profit charity running event. The event aims to raise money for members in our community who are in need of assistance. This year we are running to help another deserving Novocastrian family - Iva Harris. Iva is four years old and is living with global development delay, which prevents her from crawling, walking or talking. Due to this condition not being officially recognised, Iva's family is left without government funding and is forced to pay for medical costs and ongoing therapy. Wed-Thu 4-5 May DARKNESS TO DAYLIGHT CHALLENGE RUN (QLD)
Every year in Australia approximately 110 women, children and men die because of domestic and family violence. This symbolic run is 1km for every life lost but also the ones left behind. Individuals can take on the whole 110km; teams can relay 110km through the night; and many others can join the challenge of the last 10km run or the 3km walk - representing our community and all the services that are there to help those faced with danger and despair. The lead runner will hold a candle symbolising the hope that people living with domestic violence feel when finding the courage to speak up and get the support that seems so out of reach. Nexus Care's 4th annual fun run is on again FRESH STARTATHON 2016. Bring your friends and family, and join us at Teralba Park (Everton Park Brisbane) on the 7th May 2016 8am. With a radical concept, the Wings for Life World Run is a global race with a difference. Wed-Mon 11-16 May ULTRA-TRAIL AUSTRALIA (NSW)
A five-day trail running festival of unprecedented scope. Previously branded as The North Face 100 and The North Face 50, the existing 100km and 50km events, already established as the southern hemisphere;s largest trail races, are now subsumed under the Ultra-Trail Australia brand. From May 11 - May 16, 2016, Katoomba, NSW, will play host to over 4000 athletes, spectators and support crew, converging for a five-day trail running extravaganza. For many years the Half Marathon weekend has been a major annual event in the calendars of YCRC members and other local and interstate runners and the tradition continues. Mark off the weekend of the 21st/22nd May in your calendars for the 2016 Half Marathon weekend! Saturday 21st May offers social runners and families a chance to compete in shorter runs including a 1.6k Mini Jog and a 5k Fun Run, and Sunday 22nd May is the day of the Half Marathon. Rex Foulkes, in whose memory this event is named, was a local distance runner, who died in a road accident returning to Cooma from Canberra after a race in 1970. The first Rex Foulkes Half Marathon held on 13th September 1970 had just 24 finishers. A trail running "taster" at Canberra's original family playground, the Cotter. The Series starts with a moderate-grade 5km course (the 10km completes 2 laps) comprising a paved loop on the "Cotter Dam Discovery Trail" in the shadow of Cotter Dam, followed by a contrasting loop on walking tracks and fire trails with a river crossing, a hill and a sandy beach – a bit of everything. Park at the end of the Cotter Bend picnic area, off Cotter Rd. The Traralgon Marathon is the oldest current marathon in Australia and was first held on 24 August 1968. Now in its 49th year, the event includes a full marathon, half marathon (21.1 kilometres), 10 kilometres run, and a Kids Marathon event over 2.2 kilometres. Proudly presented by The Traralgon Harriers Athletics Club, this 'Friendly Marathon' offers great value for runners and walkers of all ages. The friendly vibe and country atmosphere make it the ideal event for serious and novice runners alike. We design our layouts based on our military experience, by utilising unique obstacles tailored around the vegetation and terrain of the land. Our aim is to deliver a truly unique experience to those that dare. The obstacle course has been designed to test your mental resolve and stamina, with an emphasis on tackling obstacles, not running a marathon. Sat-Sun 11-12 Jun TRUE GRIT - AUSTRALIAN 24HR ENDURO (NSW)
The endurance event is open to all challengers and has multiple solo and team formats that make the concept of racing 24 hours palatable for most fitness levels. Racers are invited to challenge the course solo in a grueling and mentally demanding battle, or to register for the event as part of a two or four person team. Only one racer is allowed on course at a time, so the option is open to competitors to hit the course as hard as they like, then rest and enjoy the company of likeminded friends while waiting for team mates to return from their lap. Take A Hike is the ultimate community fundraising challenge aimed at raising vital funds and awareness for children with autism. The challenge is open to everyone and caters to all fitness levels with a 10.5km route for the Sunday strollers, 21km for the half marathon heroes and 42km for the marathon maniacs. Participants can choose to either walk or run in a team or go solo. A favourite event on the Winter calendar, the Sri Chinmoy Half Marathon is staged in and around Telopea Park on the Queens Birthday public holiday Monday. Gobi March (China) 2016 is the 50th race of the 4 Deserts Race Series. It is a a 7-day, 250-kilometer self-supported footrace, takes place in Hami region in the eastern part of Xinjiang Province in China. Along the 250 kilometers / 155 miles of the course, the terrain includes grasslands, farmlands, dirt tracks, riverbeds, rolling hills, mountain valleys, plains and plateaus. Competitors pass through local villages and across grazing lands where shepherds tend to their flocks. Starting at the base of Mt Keira at Edmund Rice College and finishing at the heights of Mt Kembla, the Mountain to Mountain Challenge is a 13.6 kilometre run or walk up steep ascents, down deep dips and past some of Wollongong's most stunning scenery. After finishing the challenge, participants can celebrate with all the food, fun and entertainment of the Mt Kembla Mining Heritage Festival. A free shuttle service will then take everyone back to Edmund Rice College. Registrations for the Mountain to Mountain Challenge are now open and participants can register online by logging onto www.m2mchallenge.com.au. These events start and finish at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat located in the Lamington National Park. Competitors will have the option of 3 events. A 42 km Marathon or a 21 km Half Marathon distance or the FARA 8.5 km Fun Run on two consecutive days. To be in the running for age or category winnings you need to compete in the same event on both days. However there is a team option, where one person competes on one day and your team member competes on the other day. This will suit Mums and Dads with kids. There is also the option to compete in a single event, however this will not place you into a set category for overall placings. You do not need to be an elite athlete or champion runner to compete in the Lamington Eco Challenge. This point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The Relay option requires 2-4 competitors per team. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one!
