Mon-Sun 25 Jan-5 Jun ASICS ELLEKER HALF MARATHON AND 10K ROAD RACE, ALBANY (WA)
The 21st Asics Elleker Half Marathon (21.1K) and 10 km road run is an annual event, presented by the Albany Athletics Club Inc. The event attracted over 190 entrants, with participants traveling from as far away as Perth, Busselton, Bunbury and Esperance to take part. The event is conducted in and around the small township of Elleker, situated 12 km west of Albany, (400km south of Perth). The course is a pleasant, relatively flat route around Grassmere Lake, traveling through picturesque karri forests and farmland. The mild weather at the time of the event (Sunday of the June West Aust long weekend) makes for perfect PB distance running conditions. After the event participants are provided with a soup and roll, before the prize presentations. The TRAILBLAZER trail run series takes place at the You Yangs National Park, taking participants off road on both trails and emergency vehicle tracks. Sun 29 May SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL SERIES 1: "COTTER CANTER" 5KM & 10KM (ACT)
A trail running "taster" at Canberra's original family playground, the Cotter. The Series starts with a moderate-grade 5km course (the 10km completes 2 laps) comprising a paved loop on the "Cotter Dam Discovery Trail" in the shadow of Cotter Dam, followed by a contrasting loop on walking tracks and fire trails with a river crossing, a hill and a sandy beach – a bit of everything. Park at the end of the Cotter Bend picnic area, off Cotter Rd. ?? THE 42ND ANNUAL GREAT NOSH FOOTRACE (NSW)
The NOSH is a trail run from Lindfield Oval via Roseville Bridge to Seaforth Oval through some of Sydney's most spectacular bushland. The Traralgon Marathon is the oldest current marathon in Australia and was first held on 24 August 1968. Now in its 49th year, the event includes a full marathon, half marathon (21.1 kilometres), 10 kilometres run, and a Kids Marathon event over 2.2 kilometres. Proudly presented by The Traralgon Harriers Athletics Club, this 'Friendly Marathon' offers great value for runners and walkers of all ages. The endurance event is open to all challengers and has multiple solo and team formats that make the concept of racing 24 hours palatable for most fitness levels. Racers are invited to challenge the course solo in a grueling and mentally demanding battle, or to register for the event as part of a two or four person team. Only one racer is allowed on course at a time, so the option is open to competitors to hit the course as hard as they like, then rest and enjoy the company of likeminded friends while waiting for team mates to return from their lap. Take A Hike is the ultimate community fundraising challenge aimed at raising vital funds and awareness for children with autism. The challenge is open to everyone and caters to all fitness levels with a 10.5km route for the Sunday strollers, 21km for the half marathon heroes and 42km for the marathon maniacs. Participants can choose to either walk or run in a team or go solo. Gobi March (China) 2016 is the 50th race of the 4 Deserts Race Series. It is a a 7-day, 250-kilometer self-supported footrace, takes place in Hami region in the eastern part of Xinjiang Province in China. Along the 250 kilometers / 155 miles of the course, the terrain includes grasslands, farmlands, dirt tracks, riverbeds, rolling hills, mountain valleys, plains and plateaus. Competitors pass through local villages and across grazing lands where shepherds tend to their flocks. The region has a number of highlights, including the beautiful Tian Shan Mountains, vast grass lands, sand dunes and villages of ethnic minorities. Expect muscle-burning obstacles, mud trenches covered with barbed wire, and damp, dark concrete tunnels. Amongst other challenges, the ultimate hurdle, aptly named ‘Hells Gate’, is the one feared by most and comes with tales of rope burns at nerve-racking heights. The Sri Chinmoy Canberrra Trail Series heads to Tuggeranong for a varied exploration of the Murrumbidgee Corridor. Barely minutes from the Town Centre, you'll think you were miles from anywhere as you wend your way northward through bushland, and return along the riverside walking track. The 8km course loops around at Tuggeranong Creek, while the 20km goes as far as Kambah Pool before heading south. The 3 Marathons in 3 Days is a staged trail race in the tropical rainforsets of Far North Queensland. It is run over three consecutive days over three different courses. Held on the 10th of July the Kiama Coastal Classic is right in the heart of the running season, giving runners of all abilities the perfect lead up event to other major derbies or as an opportunity to pit themselves off against friends and family. These events start and finish at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat located in the Lamington National Park. Competitors will have the option of 3 events. A 42 km Marathon or a 21 km Half Marathon distance or the FARA 8.5 km Fun Run on two consecutive days. To be in the running for age or category winnings you need to compete in the same event on both days. However there is a team option, where one person competes on one day and your team member competes on the other day. This will suit Mums and Dads with kids. There is also the option to compete in a single event, however this will not place you into a set category for overall placings. You do not need to be an elite athlete or champion runner to compete in the Lamington Eco Challenge. This point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The Relay option requires 2-4 competitors per team. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! The St.George Bank Beachside Dash is BACK for its 9th year offering something for everyone with 10km, 5km and 2km events. You can double or triple up and knock over up to 17km before brekkie. The Dash course follows the beautiful beachside path from Dolls Point to Kyeemagh, near Brighton-Le-Sands, Sydney. The course will follow the newly formed track from 2015 to allow runners of the 10km and 5km to remain on formed, fast foot path for the entire race, making it ideal for setting that personal best time. Sun 18 Sep MT COOROORA ENDURANCE CHALLENGE, POMONA (QLD)
Spend a day on this magic mountain testing your fitness and endurance, as you also benefit the lives of chronically sick kids and their families, through the donation of money raised to the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. The course starts about 100m from the road on the Mt Cooroora track at the position marked start. The track then gradually rises about 90m and as it winds its way about 750m to the point marked steep section. It is marked "steep section", because it is extremely steep. The track then rises sharply about 190m over about 450m to the summit. At this point participants turn around and follow the track back down to the start point to complete a full lap.Individual participants will carry on repeating this course. The Sri Chinmoy Canberra Centenary 100km trail run was staged in 2013. With Canberra now 103 years old, in 2016 the event grows to 103km. Starting and finishing from The Rond Terraces, the route explores Parliament House, Red Hill, Isaacs Ridge, Farrer Ridge, Mt Taylor, Mt Arawang, Cooleman Ridge, Stromlo Forest Park, the National Arboretum, Cork Oaks, Aranda Bushland, Black Mountain Reserve, Mt Majura, Mt Ainslie and Lake Burley Griffin.
