The Great Train Race isn't simply a race amongst fellow competitors - it's an exciting challenge competing against the steam locomotive, Puffing Billy! Explore the variable terrain along the race route through 13.5 km's of the Dandenong Ranges hills and fern gullies from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park. Cycle, run or walk along parts of the picturesque Avon River edge, the Kep Track, the Railway Heritage Trail and John Forrest National Park to the finish line at the Swanview Railway Station. Choose your distance from 22km, 50km or 75km. This is a unique event which is a great physical challenge in a scenic part of Western Australia, and all for a great cause to raise funds for The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Western Australia (MSWA). Sat 6 May DARKNESS INTO LIGHT MELBOURNE (VIC)
Darkness into Light is the annual fundraising event for a Suicide & Self Harm Prevention charity which provides free counselling services to anyone affected by suicide, self harm or depression. Part of the proceeds are donated to a similar, local charity in Melbourne to help support the fight against suicide. Melbourne is holding it's 3rd annual 5km walk/run this year on May 6th. Starting in the early hours of the morning when it is still dark and crossing the line as the sun rises. The Sri Chinmoy Sydney Series goes bush, to the sublime Royal National Park south of the city. Immerse yourself in pristine forest on a lovely trail run. The Sri Chinmoy Canberrra Trail Series heads to Tuggeranong for a varied exploration of the Murrumbidgee Corridor. Barely minutes from the Town Centre, you'll think you were miles from anywhere as you wend your way northward through bushland, and return along the riverside walking track. The 8km course loops around at Tuggeranong Creek, while the 20km goes as far as Kambah Pool before heading south. The Westlink M7 Blacktown Running Festival is on Sunday 30 July 2017. There are 7 race types on 1 day. Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km Run, 10km Walk, 5km Run, 5km Walk and 2km Kids Marathon Race. The course starts and finishes at Blacktown International Sports Park and is an AIMS Certififed Course. Canberra's north side hosts the Series finale. The track from Hall through to Oak Hill along Gungahlin's northern fringing ridge is the Rolls Royce of Canberra Trails. Especially commissioned for the Centenary Trail project, this beautifully sculptured track is a work of art, a trail to fall in love with… To fully appreciate the varying vistas in each direction, you really need to run this wonderful track both ways. Starting and finishing at Hall's historic Showground, both courses ascend to the summit of One Tree Hill, from where the 30km continues following the ACT/NSW border. Can you do your chosen event twice? 42 kms 21 kms or 8.5 km Fara trail fun run The Lamington Eco Challenge is a trail running event featuring some tough terrain in the Scenic Rim Hinterland in South East Queensland, including four wheel drive tracks, grassy paddocks, bush and a couple of hills as well as having to negotiate creeks, gates, cattle grids and the potential wandering livestock. What makes this event very different is that it plays out over two days; you get to sleep the night in a cozy warm bed. Sun 20 Aug 64KM KURANDA TO PORT DOUGLAS ULTRA TRAIL RACE AND RELAY; 16KM BUMP TO BEACH (QLD)
This 64 kilometre point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Teams of 2-4 runners can also complete the full course. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. There is a shorter 16 kilometre race on the same day, starting at the top of the Bump on Black Mountain Road. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! Early Bird entries end at 9.00pm on 25 May. Located on the stunning Sunshine Coast, Queensland near the barrier reef and Steve Irwin's iconic Australia Zoo, this not-for-profit event has been timed to make the most of the ideal Queensland winter running conditions. Blue skies, low humidity and mild temperatures - combined with a flat course always enable fast times. The course record currently stands at 2:18:30 set by Ethiopian, Samuel Woldemanuel in 2015. Event distances include the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km and the 2km. Each road race follows the stunning coastline of Alexandra Headlands with white sandy beaches and spectacular vantage points alongside the ocean. The Half Marathon is a one loop course with Marathon entrants completing a multi loop course (1 x 21km + 2 x 10.5km) making the most of the on-course entertainment and crowds of spectators before a red carpet 'hero' finish. With a distance to suit every ability and age group, this community-focused, world-class athletic event caters to all those wanting to take part, including families and those with both physical and intellectual disabilities.
