The full suite of classic road race distances: 5km, 10km, Half-Marathon and a full MARATHON make this annual event a true festival of running. The courses are scenic loops – flat for the most part, with a challenging rise over the spectacular Captain Cook Bridge crossing the Georges River. Sun 10 Jul KIAMA COASTAL CLASSIC (NSW)
For the first time ever the Kiama council have opened up this course to hundreds to run one of Australia's most scenic tracks! Held on the 10th of July the Kiama Coastal Classic is right in the heart of the running season, giving runners of all abilities the perfect lead up event to other major derbies or as an opportunity to pit themselves off against friends and family. Each section of this incredible run will keep Runners, Joggers and Walkers mesmerised, taking in the coastal vista and South Coast Icons including the Kiama Blowhole, Werri and Kiama Beaches with rolling green hills on one side and rugged coastline on the other. The running festival boasts three race distances; 2.5km, 10km and the main event, the 16km Kiama Coastal Classic. The three distances go past the iconic Kiama Blowhole, taking in the breathtaking vistas of the beautiful NSW South Coast. Canberra's north side hosts the Series finale. The track from Hall through to Oak Hill along Gungahlin's northern fringing ridge is the Rolls Royce of Canberra Trails. Especially commissioned for the Centenary Trail project, this beautifully sculptured track is a work of art, a trail to fall in love with… To fully appreciate the varying vistas in each direction, you really need to run this wonderful track both ways. Starting and finishing at Hall's historic Showground, both courses ascend to the summit of One Tree Hill, from where the 30km continues following the ACT/NSW border. Sun 31 Jul GREENACRES MOUNTAIN TO MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE (NSW)
Starting at the base of Mt Keira at Edmund Rice College and finishing at the heights of Mt Kembla, the Mountain to Mountain Challenge is a 13.6 kilometre run or walk up steep ascents, down deep dips and past some of Wollongong's most stunning scenery. After finishing the challenge, participants can celebrate with all the food, fun and entertainment of the Mt Kembla Mining Heritage Festival. A free shuttle service will then take everyone back to Edmund Rice College. This race is tough but not as tough as Roki's days. Come and join us on a 4km soft sand run from North Narrabeen lake to Collaroy beach to not only celebrate the start of the Roki Road Foundation but to also celebrate the support, love and enormous effort we as a family and the community have achieved in the last two years to fix Roki since he so unfairly suffered brain damage at birth. We are aiming to take Roki to India for stem cells and America for his neuroplasticity program in October of this year. Please help us get him there, he has come so far! These events start and finish at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat located in the Lamington National Park. Competitors will have the option of 3 events. A 42 km Marathon or a 21 km Half Marathon distance or the FARA 8.5 km Fun Run on two consecutive days. To be in the running for age or category winnings you need to compete in the same event on both days. However there is a team option, where one person competes on one day and your team member competes on the other day. This will suit Mums and Dads with kids. There is also the option to compete in a single event, however this will not place you into a set category for overall placings. You do not need to be an elite athlete or champion runner to compete in the Lamington Eco Challenge. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! Sun 18 Sep MT COOROORA ENDURANCE CHALLENGE, POMONA (QLD)
Spend a day on this magic mountain testing your fitness and endurance, as you also benefit the lives of chronically sick kids and their families, through the donation of money raised to the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. The course starts about 100m from the road on the Mt Cooroora track at the position marked start. The track then gradually rises about 90m and as it winds its way about 750m to the point marked steep section. It is marked "steep section", because it is extremely steep. The track then rises sharply about 190m over about 450m to the summit. At this point participants turn around and follow the track back down to the start point to complete a full lap.Individual participants will carry on repeating this course. Sat 1 Oct WESTERN SYDNEY MARATHON (NSW)
The Western Sydney Marathon has swiftly become one of the state's premier running events, attracting runners from all over the country and internationally. It is one of the state's most affordable marathon events and attracts both Entry level and experienced athletes. The marathon is run at the Sydney International Regatta Centre situated at the scenic Penrith Lakes. Its fast, flat course circles the main lake, crosses an island bridge to the Regatta Centre and weaves along roads both inside and outside the venue. Sat-Sun 22-23 Oct NED KELLY CHASE (VIC)
The 100km course follows the magnificent Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and then on the Oxley and Milawa cycle path which starts and finishes at Apex Park in Wangaratta. Entrants choose from the 100km or 50km solo run, 4 x 25km relay run, Marathon or Half Marathon, 100km or 50km cycle challenge or 10km fun run. The event is fully supported with food and beverage aid stations approximately every 5km. Times are accurately recorded and the 100km & 50km is IAAF AIMS certified and entrants choose their own start time aiming to finish at 12pm Sunday. Entry fees for all but the 10km includes customised event bibs, 2-bottle Ned Kelly Chase hydration belt and a ticket to the presentation dinner Sunday evening. Dinner includes delicious 1880's favourites such as lamb shank soup, damper, various roast veges and meats, cottage pie and for dessert we tuck into bread and butter pudding and an adult-styled trifle. All event finishers receive either a stylised Ned Kelly helmet medal or keyring and there is also a great range of other prizes and giveaways.
