| Sat-Sun | 6-7 Jul | GOLD COAST AIRPORT MARATHON (QLD) The 35th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be staged on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July 2013 in one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world in Queensland, Australia. Regarded as one of Australia's premier sporting events, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is set to attract more than 28,000 participants of all ages and abilities from Queensland, interstate and overseas. The race program offers something for everyone, with the full 42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5.7km Challenge and the Junior Dash 4km and 2km races. The Gold Coast Airport Marathon course is renowned worldwide for being flat, fast and scenic, running alongside the beautiful Broadwater and sparkling surf beaches. The climate is traditionally good for running, with low humidity, no wind and mild temperatures, creating great conditions to achieve a personal best time. All finishers will be rewarded with a commemorative medal and certificate, plus a shirt or cap. There is also the opportunity for participants to fundraise for the event's official charity, Cancer Council Queensland, or another charity of their choice. | Mon-Sat | 8-13 Jul | BIG RED RUN (QLD) The Born to Run Foundation has established a new running event in the Simpson Desert based out of Birdsville, Queensland in 2013. The Big Red Run will be an exciting week long event, covering uncharted parts of the Simpson Desert as well as a sunset concert atop Big Red featuring Australian music legend, John Williamson. Runners can choose from the Big Red Run; a 250km 6 day stage race, the Big Red Dash; a 42k marathon from Birdsville to Big Red, or the Born to Run 100km; a unique 100km desert run. This event will be Australia's first and only 250km multi stage desert running race. The course is predominantly held on the Westlink M7 Shared Pathway from Prestons (Liverpool City Local Government Area) and finishes at Blacktown International Sports Park Athletics Stadium, Rooty Hill. The Marathon course is IAAF/AIMS Certified and is supported by the Marathon Relay Challenge (21.1km x 2 Runners) and the Kids Marathon Series (2.195km). | Sat-Sun | 17-18 Aug | WAGGA WAGGA TRAIL MARATHON RUNNING WEEKEND (NSW) Just one week after the City2Surf, August 17-18th 2013 is the date set for the unique Wiradjuri walking Track, Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon Running Weekend. Saturday 17th August will be the 5 km fun run and Sunday August 18th will be the cross-country trail marathon that is 95% off-road. On the day will be a marathon relay, a half marathon and a 10km run, something for all the family. Wagga Wagga Road Runners (WWRR) hosted the 5th Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon in 2012 with a big increase in runner numbers. Most runners say that running trails are so much more interesting then running around hard road. | Sun | 27 Oct | NED KELLY CHASE (100KM) (VIC) A 100km, fully bitumen sealed, essentially flat course starting and finishing in Wangaratta, NE Victoria. The course utilises the Murray to Mountain Rail Trail to Gapsted (~47km), the Snow Road to Milawa (~27km) and fully sealed cycling paths back to the finish at Wangaratta. The event is "Time Trial" based so that entrants receive support from other runners when they need it most - in the later stages of the event. Entrants need to consider their abilities and select a start time with a view to finish as close as possible to 2pm. Presentations will take place at a local restaurant at 4pm ahead of a celebration 3-course options buffet dinner (with gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian choices) at 4:30pm included in the entry fee. Entry fees have been kept as reasonable as possible. There is also a 2 person team option (50km each), a 4 person relay option (approx 25km each) and a RunNBike option (2 people, 1 bike).
