| Sat-Sun | 29-30 Jun | TOUGH BLOKE CHALLENGE From the stables of Maximum Adventure comes an off road running event that combines the challenges of cross country running, manmade and natural obstacles, water crossings, mud and some unexpected surprises. The challenge is simple, clear the obstacles and get around the course in as short a time as possible to be in the running for the coveted Tough Challenge Trophy! Running is the core discipline of the Tough Bloke Challenge but competitors should be prepared for anything... and don't expect to be clean when you come out on the other side – the taste of mud and sweat will be familiar by the end of the day. Despite the name, the event is also open to females in the "Tough Chick" category and a range of age categories, starting from 16 years of age. Men and women of all ages will enjoy this event, everyone likes to get down and dirty once in a while! It's 100% unadulterated fun, an opportunity to be a kid again. | Sun | 30 Jun | CAREFLIGHT WOODFORD TO GLENBROOK CLASSIC 2013 This year's CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will attract over 1000 entrants to run or ride the Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook. Covering 25km of undulating bushland, the trail is incredibly scenic and a must for keen mountain bikers and trail runners. Participants are supported the full length of the track by Rural Fire Service crews stationed along the way, providing First Aid and drinks. A CareFlight doctor and St John Ambulance volunteers will also be in support. The event will finish with a community fair-style reception in the beautiful Euroka Clearing. Families are welcome to join in the fun with activities for the kids, food stalls and displays throughout the day. Mountain bike riders start from 9am and runners start from 10am. Exact start times and transport and parking details will be advised closer to the event. Registration is just $45 for adults and $20 for juniors, which only covers the cost of conducting the event. Money raised by entrants through donations and fundraising activities helps to fund the services of CareFlight. Each entrant is asked to assist with this. Teams and individuals are welcome to enter. The unique participant sports event has grown on the back of the interesting and picturesque course and great host venue. Starting once more with a (snowy?!) 10 K prologue in Canberra on Friday arvo, followed by 6 testing stages through beautiful back country on Sat/Sunday as we work our way towards Murramurang Beach and Nowra. The event is unique in that you can compete either as an individual (100K over the weekend) or in a 2 or 3 person team, sharing the 6 stages of approx. 15 K each. | Sat-Sun | 17-18 Aug | WAGGA WAGGA TRAIL MARATHON RUNNING WEEKEND Just one week after the City2Surf, August 17-18th 2013 is the date set for the unique Wiradjuri walking Track, Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon Running Weekend. Saturday 17th August will be the 5 km fun run and Sunday August 18th will be the cross-country trail marathon that is 95% off-road. On the day will be a marathon relay, a half marathon and a 10km run, something for all the family. Wagga Wagga Road Runners (WWRR) hosted the 5th Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon in 2012 with a big increase in runner numbers. Most runners say that running trails are so much more interesting then running around hard road. The course, reputed to be one of the most picturesque traffic free running courses in Sydney Metro, follows pathways and trails in a park and Lake setting, providing a balanced and "honest" 21 km course with a good mix of hills and flats. | Sat | 19 Oct | HUME & HOVELL 50/100 The walking track follows as closely as possible the historic route taken by Explorers Hume & Hovell on their 1824 expedition to Port Phillip Bay. The 100km event starts (6am) at the Henry Angel Trackhead, and finishes at Blowering Dam Power Station near Tumut. The track is a mixture of constructed walking track and fire trails. The highest point is over 1200 metres in elevation, passes scenic Buddong Falls, then the Snowy Hydro Tumut 3 Power Station, near Talbingo and then along the foreshores of Blowering Dam. The 50km event starts (12 noon) at Jounama Dam, joining the Hume & Hovell Walking Track and finishing at Blowering Dam Power Station, near Tumut. The course follows a mixture of single track and fire trails over Gurkeroo Ridge. | Sat | 9 Nov | GREAT NORTH WALK The Great North Walk is a 250 km walking track that runs along the coastal strip between Sydney and Newcastle in New South Wales. It was opened in the Australian Bicentennial year of 1988 and passes through some of Australia's most outstanding scenery. Both races start at Teralba on Lake Macquarie and head south. The 100km race finishes at Yarramalong in the scenic Yarramalong Valley and the 100 Mile at Patonga on spectacular Broken Bay. Although the route is primarily on foot tracks and fire-trails, it does include some minor back roads.
