Sat-Sun 26-27 May MAXIMUM ADVENTURE RACE SERIES - ROYAL NATIONAL PARK (NSW)
Short, fast and fun, and suitable for anyone and everyone with a real sense of adventure, the Maximum Adventure Race Series is designed to offer the perfect introduction to the exhilarating sport of adventure racing. Designed for teams of two, the races are fun, fast and furious with teams having to change between three core disciplines several times during the event… mountain biking, trail running and kayaking. These non-stop events will take between two to six hours to complete so there is never any time to get bored or tired – you will constantly be challenged throughout the race, physically and mentally! The Classic Course consists of 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running and 2-4km of kayaking. The Novice Course consists of 5-15km of mountain biking, 3-5km of trail running and 1-2km of kayaking. Note: There are multiple legs of each discipline, which add up to the distances quoted. Each event will require some basic navigation skills, although if you can read a street directory, you will be able to complete the course! Mon 28 May SRI CHINMOY CANBERRA TRAIL SERIES 1: "COTTER CANTER" 2.15KM, 5KM & 10KM (ACT)
A trail running "taster" at Canberra's original family playground, the Cotter. The Series starts with a moderate-grade 5km course (the 10km completes 2 laps) comprising a paved loop on the "Cotter Dam Discovery Trail" in the shadow of Cotter Dam, followed by a contrasting loop on walking tracks and fire trails with a river crossing, a hill and a sandy beach – a bit of everything. A new 2.15km short course for Novices and Kids has been added to the program. Park at the end of the Cotter Bend picnic area, off Cotter Rd. Located in the rural hamlet of Wamboin, just 20 km east of Canberra, the Kowen Trail Run will see competitors run across the border into Kowen Forest in the ACT to participate in either a marathon, half marathon or 12 km course. The event is open to all levels of trail running experience. The courses are challenging, well marked and have spectacular views of Canberra and surrounds. The Sri Chinmoy Canberrra Trail Series heads to Tuggeranong for a varied exploration of the Murrumbidgee Corridor. Barely minutes from the Town Centre, you'll think you were miles from anywhere as you wend your way northward through bushland, and return along the riverside walking track. The short 2km course heads south and back again; the 8km course loops around at Tuggeranong Creek; while the 20km goes as far as Kambah Pool before heading south. Parking is at Pine Island North picnic area, at the end of Pine Island Rd, Tuggeranong. The Elephant Trail Race is from Saturday, 21 July to Sunday, 22 July 2018 at the Cairncross State Forest in Port Macquarie, NSW. The event follows a 25km course, with approximately 1100m elevation per lap (100km has approximately 4500m). Saturday has the 100km course, being 2 laps in one direction and 2 laps in reverse; and the 50km course, 2 laps in one direction. Sunday has 25km, 13km and kids trail races. Canberra's north side hosts the Series finale. The track from Hall through to Oak Hill along Gungahlin's northern fringing ridge is the Rolls Royce of Canberra Trails. Especially commissioned for the Centenary Trail project, this beautifully sculptured track is a work of art, a trail to fall in love with… To fully appreciate the varying vistas in each direction, you really need to run this wonderful track both ways. Starting and finishing at Hall's historic Showground, the 2,2km meanders around the foreslopes, while the 2 longer courses ascend to the summit of One Tree Hill, from where the 30km continues following the ACT/NSW border. The Dungog Dash and Dawdle is a cross country fun run which showcases the stunning hills and valleys of Dungog, the beautiful and historic Dungog Common. It is the key fundraiser of much-needed funds for the Dungog Shire Community Centre, the hub for all things community in the region. There is a 21 km half marathon trail run, 12km dash, 6km dawdle, Kids Dash or Dawdle (12 years and under) and a Doggy Half. Standard distance 28.7k has been running for 11 yrs and the inaugural Ultra Distance 57.4k was incorporated into the event weekend in 2016. It was cancelled in 2017 due to cyclone damage. The course travels through the Conway National Park rainforest, ending up at the Airlie Beach Lagoon. Total entries are capped at 200. This point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. Run the 64km individually, or get a team of 2-4 members and share the load. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! Early Bird entries end on 31 May. Originally staged as a 100km race to commemorate the Centenary of Canberra in 2013, this unique run is a celebration of our "Natural Capital" – part adventure, part scenic tour and part epic endurance challenge. Ragnar Trail, is a one-of-a-kind overnight relay race for teams of eight friends (or four ultra-running friends). Teammates alternate running three uniquely beautiful trail loops until each person has completed the three trails which total approximately 24 kilometers. When you're not soaking up Mother Nature on the trails, you'll be camping overnight at Ragnar Village where you can expect food, s'mores, bonfires, entertainment and a nonstop festival atmosphere. The goal of Ragnar is to conquer something hard while playing even harder.
