| Sun | 30 Jun | CAREFLIGHT WOODFORD TO GLENBROOK CLASSIC 2013 (NSW) This year's CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will attract over 1000 entrants to run or ride the Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook. Covering 25km of undulating bushland, the trail is incredibly scenic and a must for keen mountain bikers and trail runners. Participants are supported the full length of the track by Rural Fire Service crews stationed along the way, providing First Aid and drinks. A CareFlight doctor and St John Ambulance volunteers will also be in support. The event will finish with a community fair-style reception in the beautiful Euroka Clearing. Families are welcome to join in the fun with activities for the kids, food stalls and displays throughout the day. Mountain bike riders start from 9am and runners start from 10am. Exact start times and transport and parking details will be advised closer to the event. Registration is just $45 for adults and $20 for juniors, which only covers the cost of conducting the event. Money raised by entrants through donations and fundraising activities helps to fund the services of CareFlight. Each entrant is asked to assist with this. Teams and individuals are welcome to enter. The Big Red Run will be an exciting week long event, covering uncharted parts of the Simpson Desert as well as a sunset concert atop Big Red featuring Australian music legend, John Williamson. Runners can choose from the Big Red Run; a 250km 6 day stage race, the Big Red Dash; a 42k marathon from Birdsville to Big Red, or the Born to Run 100km; a unique 100km desert run. This event will be Australia's first and only 250km multi stage desert running race. In the olden days passengers on the horse-drawn coach service had to get out and walk when going up or coming down the section known as Slatey Pinch – a cutting through slate rock at a steep 1 in 3 grade, about 1 kilometre from the bottom of the tack. | Sat | 19 Oct | HUME & HOVELL 50/100 (NSW) The walking track follows as closely as possible the historic route taken by Explorers Hume & Hovell on their 1824 expedition to Port Phillip Bay. The 100km event starts (6am) at the Henry Angel Trackhead, and finishes at Blowering Dam Power Station near Tumut. The track is a mixture of constructed walking track and fire trails. The highest point is over 1200 metres in elevation, passes scenic Buddong Falls, then the Snowy Hydro Tumut 3 Power Station, near Talbingo and then along the foreshores of Blowering Dam. The 50km event starts (12 noon) at Jounama Dam, joining the Hume & Hovell Walking Track and finishing at Blowering Dam Power Station, near Tumut. The course follows a mixture of single track and fire trails over Gurkeroo Ridge. It was opened in the Australian Bicentennial year of 1988 and passes through some of Australia's most outstanding scenery. Both races start at Teralba on Lake Macquarie and head south. The 100km race finishes at Yarramalong in the scenic Yarramalong Valley and the 100 Mile at Patonga on spectacular Broken Bay. Although the route is primarily on foot tracks and fire-trails, it does include some minor back roads. Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Pyrenees Range State Park near Avoca, Victoria with the event village set up at the Mt Avoca Winery. Competitors looking for a challenge take on the 21.5k run - buses transport the runners up in to the heart of the forest where they make a mass participation start through single track, fire roads and finally the grape vines to the finish. Alternatively choose the 7.5k "Round the Vineyard" course. This route takes you on fire roads, singletrack and through the grape vines to the finish at the stunning Mt Avoca Winery. Once the runners have returned from the 7.5k and the 21.5k a juniors fun run takes which takes children under 15 on a short 2k loop. | Sat | 16 Nov | 30/50 CHALLENGE (VIC) The scenic and extremely challenging 30/50 course is sanctioned by AURA and constructed by Adventure Tour guides and Fitness Specialists experienced in trekking the Kokoda Trail and Indonesia's highest and most active volcanos. The two distance options of the event, 30km or 50km promise to provide a positive and motivational health and fitness challenge for all its participants in which to finish off the year. The events distinct points of difference are the team aspect of the challenge, the two scenic endurance distances and the training and support provided to all teams by our fitness specialists leading up to the event. As individuals or in teams of two or 4, participants traverse 50km from Arthurs Seat or 30km (teams only) from Cape Schanck along some of the most scenic and challenging terrain on the Mornington Peninsula to Portsea's iconic pub and foreshore. The 30/50 proudly supports The Zaidees Rainbow Foundation, promoting Zaidees Rainbow Shoelaces as a symbol to inspire discussion about organ and tissue donation.
