This off and on road multi-event will see participants swim 1.7km across the channel between Soldiers Point and Pindimar (with a small beach run), then Mountain Bike Ride through Pindimar and through bush and farmland to Jimmy's Beach then Kayak to Shoal Bay. | Sat | 25 Feb | POKER RUN - CAIRNS (QLD) In its fourth year, the Poker Trail Run is conducted on dirt tracks at the Smithfield Conservation and Mountain Bike Park in Cairns, Queensland. Thanks to sponsor: Pump 'n Pedal. There is a long loop (app 3km) and a short loop (app 2km) through rainforest and pine plantations. These mountain biking tracks have some very steep ascends and descends. Competitors complete as many loops as they can in the hour allowed. Upon registration and at the end of each short loop, competitors receive a playing card. Two cards are awarded for each long loop. | Sun | 15 Apr | GEELONG HALF MARATHON (VIC) 24st Geelong Half Marathon Sunday April 15, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The Geelong Half-Marathon continues to grow in popularity with over 900 entries last year. The (certified distance) course along the banks of the Barwon River in Geelong is scenic and away from road traffic. This run always takes place on the first Sunday after Easter (Sunday April 15, 2012). Four former Olympians, Chris Umthank, Lea Troop, Steve Monaghetti and Nick Harrison have been competitors. The start is 9:00 am on the day and is easily found under the Moorabool Street Bridge in Geelong with plenty of nearby parking. The course is flat. There is over $3500 in prizes as well as additional spot prizes. As in past years, there is a $200 bonus for anyone breaking the open records. At $45 for early adult entry and $35 for early student entry, the race offers good value. An additional feature is the relay section with a team of three runners running approximately 3 X 7 km. The cost per team is 3 X $30. On-line entries will be available from early December. Entry numbers will be capped at 1000 and a race time cut-off will apply.
