| Sun | 21 Mar | SUNFEST FUN RUN, 9.24 KM AND 4.55 KM (VIC) 21 March 8.30AM - Macedon St x Barkly St Sunbury (Melway 382 F4). A new fun run associated with the long-running Sunbury Community Festival. Commencing at the Village Green. The first 700 m is a boring sprint down a service road to spread the field. Over a historic bluestone bridge and a tight twist under the road onto the cycle/walking path. This undulates through park beside Jacksons Creek to a tee junction at 1.9 km. 4.55 km runners turn left over a rustic bridge and circle The Nook, a popular picnic area, before returning the way they came. 9.24 km runners turn right and regret their decision to choose that distance. More than 30m upwards in 300 m. Those who reach the top have a flat run at a safe distance from a cliff, giving a magnificent view of countryside; reputedly worth $30,000 per facing house. Round the witch's hat as directed by the marshal and return, remembering that running down a steep hill is no easier but more dangerous than going up. Refresh and join the fun at the festival. | Sat-Sun | 17 Jul-24 Jan | MONGOLIA SUNRISE TO SUNSET 2010 For the 11th time, hikers and runners will meet on the shores of a remote and pristine lake in northern Mongolia to take part in Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset (MS2S), a 42km and 100km trail run. This event will take place from July 17th to the 24th. Offering a challenge to hike or run a breathtaking course in one of the world's most beautiful and remote National Parks, MS2S also offers the chance to explore Mongolia's unique nature and culture. Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset is a non-profit event that aims to preserve Hovsgol National Park's nature and culture. We do so by supporting the Park's development in environmentally minded ways, promoting it as a travel destination to a culturally open public and by ensuring that the Park's local inhabitants can keep their cultural identity. We use all the proceeds from the event to help build the Park's infrastructure and to develop innovative solutions to its particular problems. Our current efforts are focused on addressing the most pressing issue facing the Park at the moment - the new influx of garbage generated by local Mongolian tourism. In 2001 we donated a garbage collection truck and since 2002 we have realized a garbage education and garbage control project that is now being adopted across Mongolia under the auspices of the Ministry for Nature and the Environment. contact: Jeremie Trono. email: jeremie.trono@ultramongolia.org.
