| Sun | 12 Oct | THE BRIGHTON BEACHSIDE DASH (NSW) The newest run to hit Sydney - and it promises to be one of the most beautiful and possibly the fastest!! Taking place in the beautiful beachside suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands - very close to Rockdale, and just beyond the airport to the south of Sydney - the 10km course follows the beachside paths and boardwalks from Cook Park to Kyeemagh and back again to finish in Peter Depena Reserve. The course is almost entirely flat and very beautiful with lovely city skyline and sea views all the way. There are three events to choose from - a 10km and 5km run and a 2km kidz mini-marathon for under 12's. The 10km run will be paced to give runners a great opportunity to challenge themselves and set a personal best time. If you've trained hard through the winter and are ready to see in the summer with a beautiful, flat and fast run, or if you are looking for an easy run to start your summer fitness program - this one's for you! Speed is not necessarily the deciding factor in this race with a strong emphasis on route selection and problem solving skills. Armed with a map and clue sheet, teams have to navigate their way around the host city to locate and complete a variety of tasks and challenges. Other details: The Great North Walk 100s (GNW100s), organized by the Terrigal Trotters running club for the first time in 2005, are two simultaneous trail races, a 100 Mile and a 100 Kilometre, along The Great North Walk south from Teralba on Lake Macquarie. The 100 Kilometre race will finish at Yarramalong in the scenic Yarramalong Valley and the 100 Mile at Patonga on spectacular Broken Bay. Although the route is primarily on foot tracks and fire-trails, it does include some minor back roads. There will be cut-off times at Checkpoints en route and the overall time limits will be 22 hours for the 100 Kilometre and 36 hours for the 100 Mile. Despite its proximity to the populated Central Coast of New South Wales, the course passes through rugged and spectacular terrain and is a demanding challenge for all runners. The course includes more than 6,200 metres (20,000ft) of climbing. Entrants will need to cope with precipitous ascents and descents, muddy trails and creek crossings, slippery rocks and roots, and hard-to-follow trail. There are a number of sections where running is impossible. There are no marshals on the course and all runners will need to be capable navigators and prepared to travel at night in remote areas on difficult trail. The course is challenging, but is regularly used by runners and walkers and overlooks much of the picturesque coast between the two points. Runners can expect to complete the course in between 30 - 45 minutes. Joggers can expect to complete the course in between 45 - 60 minutes. There are 10 categories, Spot Prizes, Trophies and lots, lots more. Each entrant receives our Bells Bash showbag including a t-shirt (retail price $44.95). Specially struck Bells Bash medallions will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all categories for the 4km and 8km events. All place getters will also receive wonderful prizes.
