The Canada Day Fun Run volunteer committee are proud to invite you to join us for our annual run/walk for cancer research. All the money raised at this family event goes directly to the Cancer Council ACT, to fund research, education and support services in the ACT region. Event details are as follows: Date: Sunday 30 June 2013 Time: 10.00am Location: Stromlo Running Track - Stromlo Forest Park, Uriarra Road Registration: $20 for an Adult, $10 for a Child or $50 for a Family (2 Adults & 2 Children) Registrations on the day from 8.00am, however depending on numbers late entries may not be timed and therefore ineligible to be considered for prizes. From the stables of Maximum Adventure comes an off road running event that combines the challenges of cross country running, manmade and natural obstacles, water crossings, mud and some unexpected surprises. The challenge is simple, clear the obstacles and get around the course in as short a time as possible to be in the running for the coveted Tough Challenge Trophy! Running is the core discipline of the Tough Bloke Challenge but competitors should be prepared for anything... and don't expect to be clean when you come out on the other side – the taste of mud and sweat will be familiar by the end of the day. Despite the name, the event is also open to females in the "Tough Chick" category and a range of age categories, starting from 16 years of age. Sun 30 Jun CAREFLIGHT WOODFORD TO GLENBROOK CLASSIC 2013 (NSW)
This year's CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will attract over 1000 entrants to run or ride the Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook. Covering 25km of undulating bushland, the trail is incredibly scenic and a must for keen mountain bikers and trail runners. Participants are supported the full length of the track by Rural Fire Service crews stationed along the way, providing First Aid and drinks. A CareFlight doctor and St John Ambulance volunteers will also be in support. The event will finish with a community fair-style reception in the beautiful Euroka Clearing. Families are welcome to join in the fun with activities for the kids, food stalls and displays throughout the day. Mountain bike riders start from 9am and runners start from 10am. Exact start times and transport and parking details will be advised closer to the event. Registration is just $45 for adults and $20 for juniors, which only covers the cost of conducting the event. Money raised by entrants through donations and fundraising activities helps to fund the services of CareFlight. Each entrant is asked to assist with this. Teams and individuals are welcome to enter. The 35th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be staged on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July 2013 in one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world in Queensland, Australia. Regarded as one of Australia's premier sporting events, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is set to attract more than 28,000 participants of all ages and abilities from Queensland, interstate and overseas. Geraldton Harriers will host its 14th annual marathon and half marathon as part of Run Fest 2013 this July. The Born to Run Foundation has established a new running event in the Simpson Desert based out of Birdsville, Queensland in 2013. The Big Red Run will be an exciting week long event, covering uncharted parts of the Simpson Desert as well as a sunset concert atop Big Red featuring Australian music legend, John Williamson. Runners can choose from the Big Red Run; a 250km 6 day stage race, the Big Red Dash; a 42k marathon from Birdsville to Big Red, or the Born to Run 100km; a unique 100km desert run. This event will be Australia's first and only 250km multi stage desert running race. Bush Capital Bush Marathon Festival, 20-21 July 2013 Off road trail events in Canberra Nature Park raising money for the Australian mountain running team. Saturday 17th August will be the 5 km fun run and Sunday August 18th will be the cross-country trail marathon that is 95% off-road. On the day will be a marathon relay, a half marathon and a 10km run, something for all the family. Wagga Wagga Road Runners (WWRR) hosted the 5th Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon in 2012 with a big increase in runner numbers. Most runners say that running trails are so much more interesting then running around hard road. The historic 6km Bump Track offers views of the Mowbray River valley where the Mowbray River drops through a gorge carved into the forested foothills of the Macalister Range. In the olden days passengers on the horse-drawn coach service had to get out and walk when going up or coming down the section known as Slatey Pinch – a cutting through slate rock at a steep 1 in 3 grade, about 1 kilometre from the bottom of the tack. From the bottom of the bump, follow (mostly) sealed roads into Port Douglas to finish on famous Four Mile Beach. Imagine running at the foot of some of Australia's tallest coastal cliffs, while the low tide of the Southern Ocean laps the sand at your feet. Ahead lies a magical 100km trail run journey along Victoria's wild surf coast and exploring its hinterland. The course runs past lighthouses, waterfalls, scenic lookouts, renowned surf beaches (heard of Bells?), surf life saving clubs, remote wilderness and almost everything in between. Best of all, the Surf Coast Century gives everyone the opportunity to get a taste for ultra running without necessarily having to run an entire ultra! The Twin Bridges track (East Black Mountain Road) follows the route of the original Black Mountain Road, to the east of the current road. It diverges from Black Mountain Road 27 kilometres from the Kennedy Highway and rejoins it 2 kilometres from the top of the Bump Track. Closed by gates at both ends, it is a multi-use track for trail runners, walkers and mountain bikers. Sat 19 Oct HUME & HOVELL 50/100 (NSW)
The walking track follows as closely as possible the historic route taken by Explorers Hume & Hovell on their 1824 expedition to Port Phillip Bay. The 100km event starts (6am) at the Henry Angel Trackhead, and finishes at Blowering Dam Power Station near Tumut. The track is a mixture of constructed walking track and fire trails. The highest point is over 1200 metres in elevation, passes scenic Buddong Falls, then the Snowy Hydro Tumut 3 Power Station, near Talbingo and then along the foreshores of Blowering Dam. The 50km event starts (12 noon) at Jounama Dam, joining the Hume & Hovell Walking Track and finishing at Blowering Dam Power Station, near Tumut. The course follows a mixture of single track and fire trails over Gurkeroo Ridge.
