Sun 7 Aug MCDONALD'S TOWNSVILLE RUNNING FESTIVAL
The McDonald's Townsville Running Festival includes a Marathon (42.2k) Half Marathon (21.1k), 10k Classic, 5k Run/Walk and Junior race. Our AIMS accredited courses are pb fast, flat and hug the coastline as well as feature the 43rd Townsville Marathon - Australia's 2nd oldest race. All runners experience spectacular views of the Coral Sea, Magnetic Island and the Marina as they follow our tropical blue line and vie for $25,300 prize money. Fri-Mon 12-15 Aug RUN LARAPINTA STAGE RACE (NT)
The Run Larapinta Stage Race is a 4-day, 4-stage trail running race along the most spectacular sections of the iconic Larapinta Trail, in the MacDonnell Ranges around Alice Springs from August 12th to 15th, 2016. Including two course distance options: The Malbunka - long course with stages of 20-45km each day The Namatjira - short course with stages of 11-30km each day Trail runners worldwide are welcome; from the recreational to the elite. Friends and family members are encouraged to join you so they can share this incredible experience. Each stage will start and finish at different locations every day and showcase the many aspects of Alice Springs and the West MacDonnell Ranges. Sat-Sun 13-14 Aug LAMINGTON ECO CHALLENGE
These events start and finish at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat located in the Lamington National Park. Competitors will have the option of 3 events. A 42 km Marathon or a 21 km Half Marathon distance or the FARA 8.5 km Fun Run on two consecutive days. To be in the running for age or category winnings you need to compete in the same event on both days. However there is a team option, where one person competes on one day and your team member competes on the other day. This will suit Mums and Dads with kids. There is also the option to compete in a single event, however this will not place you into a set category for overall placings. You do not need to be an elite athlete or champion runner to compete in the Lamington Eco Challenge. Sun 14 Aug 64KM KURANDA TO PORT DOUGLAS ULTRA TRAIL RACE AND RELAY; 16KM BUMP TO BEACH
This point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The Relay option requires 2-4 competitors per team. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! This 16km point-to-point race is starts at the 'Top of the Bump' on Black Mountain Road outside Port Douglas, Queensland Australia. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. Sun 4 Sep COFFS HARBOUR RUNNING FESTIVAL (NSW)
The Bendigo Bank Coffs Harbour Running Festival is a community event for people of all ages and abilities and consists of a 21.1 km Half Marathon, 10 km Fun Run, 5 km Fun Run and a 3km Family Fun Run/Walk. Held on a bush trail on the Coffs Creek walkway, the flat, shady course is ideal for runners. The picturesque track hugs the beautiful Coffs Creek and competitors run over floating boardwalks, through swamp forests of mangrove, casuarina and paperbark trees from the centre of town to the coast and back. The event raises funds for local children's charities including Life Education Australia, Coffs Coast Autism, Camp Quality and the Early Childhood Intervention Program Coffs Harbour. Sun 18 Sep MT COOROORA ENDURANCE CHALLENGE, POMONA
Spend a day on this magic mountain testing your fitness and endurance, as you also benefit the lives of chronically sick kids and their families, through the donation of money raised to the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. The course starts about 100m from the road on the Mt Cooroora track at the position marked start. The track then gradually rises about 90m and as it winds its way about 750m to the point marked steep section. It is marked "steep section", because it is extremely steep. The track then rises sharply about 190m over about 450m to the summit. At this point participants turn around and follow the track back down to the start point to complete a full lap.Individual participants will carry on repeating this course. Sat 8 Oct YMCA RAT RACE
The YMCA Rat Race is a cheeky cheesy and challenging annual event to be held on Saturday 8th October 2016 and is designed for maximum fun and ir-RAT-ional behaviour! Teams of four will be given a large novelty inflatable cheese to protect and carry with them for the duration of the race and across the finish line. Our dedicated "Pest Patrols" will be out to run interference and 'rescue' the cheese - adding that extra level of RATified intensity. This exciting urban adventure event (for competitors 16 years and over) will incorporate local landmarks, fun themed obstacles, an 8km run, the river and team building activities. The approximately 8 km course starts under the Story Bridge, in Captain Burke Park runs along kangaroo point cliffs, through the botanical gardens and back. Take A Hike is the ultimate community fundraising challenge aimed at raising vital funds and awareness for children with autism. The challenge is open to everyone and caters to all fitness levels with a 10.5km route for the Sunday strollers, 21km for the half marathon heroes and 42km for the marathon maniacs. Participants can choose to either walk or run in a team or go solo. Fri-Sun 18-20 Nov TOUR DE TAMBORINE
The Tour de Tamborine Mountain Sports Festival is an annual mass participation sports event held on top of the mountain over one weekend each November. The event brings exciting sports action, education and activities to the Scenic Rim region and Gold Coast Hinterland for everyone to enjoy and participate. Participants can compete in a 5km fun run, 10km Mountain Rush or enter the Hinterland Half Marathon. Walkers are also encouraged to be a part of the action - appreciating the courses at a much more leisurely pace and enjoying the scenery on offer. A little bit more adventurous? Then try the Rainforest Mountain Trail Runs.
