|Sun||1 Jun||BRISBANE KOKODA CHALLENGE ()
In honour of the Kokoda Spirit, this 30km event winds through some of Brisbane's toughest terrain. The track undulates through the green scenery in the west of Brisbane Forest Park. Starting at Brookfield Showgrounds, you and your team will make your way up to the half way checkpoint at McAfee's Lookout, before returning to showgrounds via the tropical terrain of D'Aguilar National Park, reminiscent of the Owen Stanley Ranges in Papua New Guinea. The 30k distance, coupled with wide open fire trails, makes this the perfect event for beginners or runners having a hit out. Teams of two, three and four will find the course is not without toils, as you descend down to a creek bed you encounter a sharp turn onto a narrow trail aptly named 'hell hole' - ensuring that you don't forget the meaning of endurance before arriving at the finish line. contact: 07 55394141. email: email@example.com. |Sat-Sun||19-20 Jul||GOLD COAST KOKODA CHALLENGE
The Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast is hailed as Australia's toughest endurance event. It is a gruelling, cross country, 4-person team event held over 96km, with a time limit for completion of 39 hours. And there is a good reason behind this distance and time - 96km is the length of the actual Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea and the 39 hour time limit is in honour of the 39th Militia, the first Australian Troops to set foot on the Kokoda Track. Participants (with the help of their Support Crew) trek a 96km course that leads along fire trails, crosses 12 creeks and summits 5,000m of vertical elevation. The goal is to finish as a complete team of four in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942: mateship, endurance, courage and sacrifice. contact: 755394141. email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
