Sat 8 Oct YMCA RAT RACE
The YMCA Rat Race is a cheeky cheesy and challenging annual event to be held on Saturday 8th October 2016 and is designed for maximum fun and ir-RAT-ional behaviour! Teams of four will be given a large novelty inflatable cheese to protect and carry with them for the duration of the race and across the finish line. Our dedicated "Pest Patrols" will be out to run interference and 'rescue' the cheese - adding that extra level of RATified intensity. This exciting urban adventure event (for competitors 16 years and over) will incorporate local landmarks, fun themed obstacles, an 8km run, the river and team building activities. The approximately 8 km course starts under the Story Bridge, in Captain Burke Park runs along kangaroo point cliffs, through the botanical gardens and back. Take A Hike is the ultimate community fundraising challenge aimed at raising vital funds and awareness for children with autism. The challenge is open to everyone and caters to all fitness levels with a 10.5km route for the Sunday strollers, 21km for the half marathon heroes and 42km for the marathon maniacs. Participants can choose to either walk or run in a team or go solo. Fri-Sun 18-20 Nov TOUR DE TAMBORINE
The Tour de Tamborine Mountain Sports Festival is an annual mass participation sports event held on top of the mountain over one weekend each November. The event brings exciting sports action, education and activities to the Scenic Rim region and Gold Coast Hinterland for everyone to enjoy and participate. Participants can compete in a 5km fun run, 10km Mountain Rush or enter the Hinterland Half Marathon. Walkers are also encouraged to be a part of the action - appreciating the courses at a much more leisurely pace and enjoying the scenery on offer. A little bit more adventurous? Then try the Rainforest Mountain Trail Runs. The festival finishes with a 1km Junior Bolt - providing the kids with an opportunity to share in the limelight as well as add to the event's entertainment. The 100 mile course runners take in 6 major climbs with 7,200 m of ascent and descent including Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham, Mt McKay, Spion Kopje, Mt Nelse and Victoria's highest mountain, Mt Bogong and 4 river crossings. Fri-Sat 2-3 Dec NIGHT ATTACK OBSTACLE CHALLENGE
Each Night Attack course is 5km with at least 17 obstacles, with the added excitement of running in the dark. Founded and designed by former Australian Commandos with a combined experience of 33 years, this military inspired obstacle challenge is designed to test your senses! Participants are told to expect their senses to be tested as they navigate through challenging obstacles and fluro UV lighting where areas of the course will glow in the dark. Dress in fluro or glow in the dark 'coz this Night Attack course has ultra violet lights, strobes and smoke machines. Want the hot tip? Sat 11 Feb QLD DIRT FEST MULTISPORT FESTIVAL - TRAIL RUN 8KM & 4KM
Held in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland alongside QLD Cross Triathlon Champs, the QLD Multisport weekend trail run offers courses for any age and ability. Choose the course that's right for you: 1. Go Hardcore! 8km Trail Run 2. Go Hard! 4km Fun Run The 8km Trail Run consists of one challenging lap on the tracks and trails surrounding Ewen Maddock Dam in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. This is one of the tightest run courses of the series with the majority of the track on winding single track trails which are uneven under foot. The lap includes uneven, rocky trails through ferned rainforest, creek crossings, some open trails and of course more of what we love about off road racing with some wet & muddy sections. The Queensland Cross Triathlon Championships Multisport Weekend is based in the spectacular Sunshine Coast Hinterland on the banks of Ewen Maddock Dam. The hinterland bushland provide the perfect setting for a weekend of off-road action, and competitors will be treated to some fantastic scenery as they ride and run through the ferny forest surrounding the beautiful Ewen Maddock Dam. In March 2017 the Snowy Mountains will come alive with more off road action which in addition to the TreX Australian Cross Triathlon Championships will this year include NSW Aquathlon State Championships and the Snowies Ultra Trail Run. Located in the heart of Australia's High County, and starting at an altitude of 1100m with Australia's highest peak, Mt Kosciusko as the backdrop, the courses will both delight and challenge athletes of all levels. The Cross Triathlon course includes some of the best fast and flowing single track mountain bike trails, and gritty off road running trails found anywhere in Australia and includes a distance to suit everyone! Can you do your chosen event twice? 42 kms 21 kms or 8.5 km Fara trail fun run The Lamington Eco Challenge is a trail running event featuring some tough terrain in the Scenic Rim Hinterland in South East Queensland, including four wheel drive tracks, grassy paddocks, bush and a couple of hills as well as having to negotiate creeks, gates, cattle grids and the potential wandering livestock. What makes this event very different is that it plays out over two days; you get to sleep the night in a cozy warm bed. Sun 6 Aug MCDONALD'S TOWNSVILLE RUNNING FESTIVAL
Challenge and Hero Run. Their AIMS accredited courses are fast, flat and hug the coastline as well as feature the 43rd Townsville Marathon - Australia's second oldest race. All runners experience spectacular views of the Coral Sea, Magnetic Island and the Marina as they follow their tropical blue line and vie for AUD23,000 prize money.
