The Grand Slam 3M3D is a staged trail race in the tropical rainforests of Far North Queensland. It is run over three consecutive days over three different courses. This is the seventh year of the race that is held on the Atherton Tablelands. Transport is provided from and back to Cairns Colonial Club Resort each day. The Kalinga Dash Fun Run on Sunday, 12 August 2018 is an inclusive community event that brings people together in a healthy and fun environment, with 7.5km and 4.2km fun run/walks and a kids 2km dash. The event caters for people of all abilities, from elite runners to family groups. This will be an energetic and fun day full of entertainment, prizes and activity as well as the fun runs. Fri-Sun 17-19 Aug THE 7 SUNSHINE COAST MARATHON
A member of the Association of International Marathons & Road Races (AIMS), the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon and Community Running Festival is one of the most-loved running festivals in Australia. Since its inception the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon has raised over $1.3 million for charity and community groups. Located on the stunning Sunshine Coast, Queensland an hour's drive north of Brisbane this not-for-profit event has been timed to make the most of the ideal Queensland winter running conditions. Blue skies, low humidity and mild temperatures combined with a flat course always enable fast times. The course record currently stands at 2:18:30 set by Ethiopian, Samuel Woldemanuel in 2015. Event distances include the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km and the 2km. Each road race follows the stunning coastline of Alexandra Headlands with white sandy beaches and spectacular vantage points alongside the ocean. The Half Marathon is a one loop course with Marathon entrants completing a multi loop course (1 x 21km + 2 x 10.5kms) making the most of the on-course entertainment and crowds of spectators before a red carpet -hero- finish. With a distance to suit every ability and age group, this community-focused, world-class athletic event caters to all those wanting to take part, including families and those with both physical and intellectual disabilities. The 2km event allows parents with prams and wheelchair entrants to take part and enjoy the festival atmosphere. Sun 19 Aug RUN THE GREAT WHITSUNDAY TRAIL
Standard distance 28.7k has been running for 11 yrs and the inaugural Ultra Distance 57.4k was incorporated into the event weekend in 2016. It was cancelled in 2017 due to cyclone damage. The course travels through the Conway National Park rainforest, ending up at the Airlie Beach Lagoon. Total entries are capped at 200. Sat 25 Aug MAXIMUM ADVENTURE RACE SERIES- BRISBANE REGION
Short, fast and fun, and suitable for anyone and everyone with a real sense of adventure, the Maximum Adventure Race Series is designed to offer the perfect introduction to the exhilarating sport of adventure racing. Designed for teams of two, the races are fun, fast and furious with teams having to change between three core disciplines several times during the event… mountain biking, trail running and kayaking. These non-stop events will take between two to six hours to complete so there is never any time to get bored or tired – you will constantly be challenged throughout the race, physically and mentally! The Classic Course consists of 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running and 2-4km of kayaking. The Novice Course consists of 5-15km of mountain biking, 3-5km of trail running and 1-2km of kayaking. Note: There are multiple legs of each discipline, which add up to the distances quoted. Each event will require some basic navigation skills, although if you can read a street directory, you will be able to complete the course! Sun 26 Aug 64KM KURANDA TO PORT DOUGLAS ULTRA TRAIL RACE AND RELAY; 16KM BUMP TO BEACH
This point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks. Run the 64km individually, or get a team of 2-4 members and share the load. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one! Early Bird entries end on 31 May. This 16 kilometre point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. It starts at the top of the Bump on Black Mountain Road close to Jullaten and travels through native rainforest and over picturesque creeks. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. Sun-Thu 14 Oct-14 Dec MOUNTAIN VIEW CHALLENGE
The Lions Mountain View Challenge on Sunday 14 October 2018 includes several walking and running events, with the route overlooking the majestic Glass House Mountains in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The Maleny Blackall Range Lions Club stage this event in Spring each year in order to raise funds for medical research and to provide keen runners the opportunity to compete on a challenging but scenic circuit. Sun 9 Dec GC50 RUN FESTIVAL
The GC50 Run Festival on Sunday, 9 December 2018 has 50km, 30km, 15km and 5km races and a 2x25km relay in Broadbeach, Queensland. The 50km is from Kurrawa to Coolangatta and back; the 30km from Kurrawa to Currumbin and back; the 15km from Kurrawa to Burleigh and back; and the 5 km along Hedges Avenue to Seaside Avenue and return. The run course is on either footpath or roadway, not on the beach. This is one of a handful of officially accredited AIMS-IAAF certified 50 km road races in Australia.
