Sat-Sun 18-19 Jul THE KOKODA CHALLENGE - GOLD COAST
The Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast is hailed as Australia's toughest endurance event. It is a gruelling cross country, 4-person team event held over 96km, with a time limit for completion of 39 hours. There is good reason for this distance- 96km is the length of the actual Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. The goal for participants (with the help of their Support Crew) is to finish as a complete team of four in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942: mateship, endurance, courage and sacrifice. Regardless of fitness level, people from all walks of life find participating in The Kokoda Challenge a great personal achievement and a way to help local teenagers gain a brighter future for themselves and their families through the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program (KCYP). Sun 26 Jul ROYAL RUN FOR RESEARCH
The Royal Run for Research is a fun, healthy event that is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. This year the event takes place on Sunday 26 July at 8am with both the 8km run and the 6km walk starting and finishing on Gardens Point Road in the City Botanic Gardens. RBWH Physiotherapy Department has been running the event in conjunction with the Foundation for the past 27 years to raise money for research at the hospital. On Saturday 24th October, Westside Community Care will be holding its 19th annual Greater Springfield Run for Life at the Robelle Domain Parklands. This fun run event has been one of Springfield's premiere community sporting events over these years, and has continued to grow - last year attracting around 1000 participants and a crowd of over 15,000 people. Sun 1 Nov GREAT BARRIER REEF MARATHON FESTIVAL
The Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival is on November 1st in Port Douglas. The 74km JCU Ultra Marathon now begins on Four Mile Beach, journeys out into Mowbray Valley, heading up the infamous "Bump Track" and then turning left onto Black Mountain Road to tackle the stunning trails of Twin Bridges. This is one epic challenge and a seriously challenging event. Not for the faint hearted either, the 42.195km Steve Moneghetti Marathon follows a similar course with the inclusion of the Bump Track, but with first a loop through the pristine valley of Spring Creek before heading for the infamous climb. This event turns around at the top of the track and heads back into Port Douglas along the palm tree lined streets of Port Douglas - an adventure marathon like no other! There is also the 21.1km Sheraton Mirage Resort Port Douglas Half Marathon which also begins on the beach and the 10km Newsport Daily run, a hot lap around the township of Port Douglas from the beach to suburbia, through hidden trails and back along the palm tree lined streets. Also on offer for those preferring a more 'fun run' approach is the 5km Port Douglas Fundy 5000 and the 2.5km Coles Junior Challenge. Fri-Sun 13-15 Nov ENDEAVOUR FOUNDATION'S 500KM TEAM ENDURANCE RELAY
The 500km Team Endurance Relay sees participants start running at the break of dawn and continue in a non-stop relay until sunset. Throughout the day runners are tested physically and mentally by a challenging course and the extreme heat of Queensland's summer. As the last event on the running calendar, runners are in prime condition and well prepared for the gruelling conditions. The 500km Team Endurance Relay is one of the most difficult and challenging events that runners will encounter. To register for the 500km Team Endurance Relay, you will need to form a team and decide if you are ready to take on the One Day Event or challenge yourself on the Three Day Event. Sun 13 Mar BLACK BULL HALF MARATHON (VIC)
The running of the Black Bull half marathon is part of the 2016 Murray Quad, which is a Quadrathlon (Triathlon plus a paddle) event that starts at the Yarrawonga Rowing club with a swim on Lake Mulwala, then a run around Yarrawonga, the chainman's island nature reserve and silverwood golf and lifestyle resort, a bike ride from Yarrawonga to Cobram via Wilby, Tungamaha and Katamatite and finally finishes a paddle on the Murray River to Tocumwal. To encourage more people to enter in 2016 event we are introducing single events for each of the four disciplines run at the same time as the Murray Quad. The Running of the Black Bull Half Marathon is a unique event that will include a loop around the exquisitely landscaped Black Bull golf course which is wrapped around the waters of Lake Mulwala. The run will start at around 8am just before the first swimmer from the Murray Quad event exits the water. Entry is via the website or the day before at the Murray Quad registration desk located at the Yarrawonga Rowing Club Results will be timed based and opened to all participants including those athletes competing in the Full distance and relay events of the Murray Quad. Are You Ready to Take on Australia's Tallest Building? It is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and on February 28, 2016 you have the chance to take it on from sea level to SkyPoint! With a total of 77 floors this is a serious challenge but the view from the top of the observation level at SkyPoint will make all the hard work worth it. Lock it in for 2016 and get ready to run, walk or crawl your way to the top! Registrations for the Q1 Stair Challenge open November 1, 2015 and offer a range of individual and team categories. This unique event is proud to be supporting Rosies - Friends on the Street. With over 2000 homeless people on the Gold Coast alone, each step you take on February 22 will help men and woman of our community. Please note that all participants are required to raise or pledge a minimum of $35 for Rosie's as part of their participation in this exciting event. So c'mon Gold Coast, c'mon Australia!
