Entries for next month's New Balance Canberra Marathon and the associated 5/10k fun run have been pouring into the race office this week as participants take advantage of the final opportunity to lodge postal entries. Postal entries for both events close this Friday 15 March.

Last year the marathon attracted its largest field since 1986. All indications are that numbers will again be around the 700 mark this year as participants travel from across Australia to try out the new Canberra Marathon course. The course has been changed this year to incorporate additional features of the national capital, enhancing it as one of Australia's most attractive marathon courses.

There has been plenty of interest from both elite and novice runners. The experienced leading male and female contenders will be trying to win the major prize of a trip to the Chicago Marathon and at the same time qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

On the other hand, almost one-third of the entrants to date will be making their debut over the marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres.

The marathon will be held on Sunday14 April with the Marathon Eve 5/10k Fun Run at 4pm on Saturday 13 April. Entry forms are available at www.canberramarathon.com.au or from The Runners Shop at Phillip.
