| General Info : | This run was held for the first time on 10th February 2001, and we have not set a date yet for the next opportunity to do this as a race, although you are welcome to download the maps and do it yourself as a training run.
One of the fundamental decisions with the FAT ASS series is to have regular (approx monthly) long distance runs. This means scheduling runs in the summer months, when we are all better off at the beach. Why not combine them and have a run along the best of the beaches ? This run gives a great tour of every single beach from Palm Beach to Bondi Beach in one hit ! You can even stop for a swim, a meal, at the pub or coffee-shop or even gawk at the topless bathing beauties !
Like some of the best ideas in long distance running, the idea for this run is imported from California where the Fear and Loathing in San Francisco is a well-established DIY run through urban San Francisco. Finding the route is one of the special on the day additions !

Palm Beach is not on a train line and other than car/taxi the only other public transport is by bus. |
| Finish Location : | Wherever you decide to stop - it is a point to point course. Unless you take your own crew along, or you do a car-shuffle beforehand, you will have to be responsible for getting back to the start or your howe by yourself. |
| Start Facilities : | Car park (possibly free for drop-offs but if you leave it there you need to pay approx $8), toilets, water tap. |
| Distance : | There are the following options: 20.6km, 38.1km, 66.3km and 88.9km |
| Time Limit: | None - take as long as you like |
| Entry Fee: | Free! (although you may make a donation after the event if you feel the experience warrants payment) |
| Course Description : | A mixed terrain urban run - sand, single-track footpath, steps, short road sections and sandy beach are all included. There will be lots of twists and turns so using the map to be provided is important. |
| Course Summary : | This Fat Ass run starts at North Palm Beach Surf Club. The route starts with an out and back to the Barrenjoey Lighhouse which offers superb views of the coastline that will be followed. The route then tracks southwards towards the city but following as many bush tracks, footpaths and as much off-road as possible, although there are short sections of road. The route is hilly and will be tough.

| Aid Summary : | As there will no aid supplied, you should carry at least one water bottle. Luckily there are many water taps and shops passed along the way so it is very easy to self cater. Make sure you bring some money to buy your own goodies. |
| Route Marking Summary : | As there will no track markings for the race whatsoever, you should pick up a FREE! map of the course at the start, or purchase your own. If you come off track, look at your map and work out the best way to get back on route. You should also bring along a plastic envelope or something to keep the map dry if it rains or if you sweat heavily. |
