Awesome Audley Short Course instructions
Back to The Awesome Audley
Starting from Reid's Flat you run back down the road you drove in (Riverside Rd) to the Weir then across the weir and go slightly up the hill but opposite the Visitor Centre take a very narrow left hand turn up the stairs at approx 0.8km. There is a signpost to Winifred Falls so its fairly hard to miss. The route then climbs quite steeply, and the track is reasonably indistinct so keep your eyes open. At the top of the hill though it opens up to a decent single track route, then a firetrail. From here to the 2.8km mark (Warrumbul Road Crossing - go straight over) its impossible to come off track, just follow the path. In fact just keep following the path all the way to Winifred Falls (4.2km). You come out into a clearing and the falls are to your left (how much of a falls it is depends on how much rain). We take a short right hand turn and then cross the creek (never more than ankle deep at worst). Turn left after you have crossed the creek and turn inland, then keep following the path until approx 4.7km when you reach a T-junction. The right hand route (signposted to Bundeena Drive is where we return later in the day - so don't take that now). Keep going on the trail signposted to Anice Falls. The trail here is a cool piece of single track almost in a tunnel, and you cross the creek at the top of the falls (4.9km) and then climb up the other side. At the top of the hill, you can see the vegetation change - now very bushy. This track has been newly cut and its good running through the low heathland. At about 6.7km there is a very indistinct left hand turn into very thick bush - for those running the short option, do not turn left, just follow the main track towards the right. Eventually you will come out on the Maianbar road, by a steel road barrier. Turn right here and continue along the road until you hit the main Bundeena Drive junction. Turn right here and follow the road (just be careful of ongoing traffic, although there is not usually a lot of it).
After a while you will come to the Mount Bass firetrail leading off to the right. There is a small car parking area and a big sign so its pretty hard to miss. Follow this (thankfully mainly downhill) for approx 2.5km until you reach the T-junction that was passed earlier in the run. Take the left hand track to Winifred Falls and retrace your steps all the way back to the start (ie the last 4.5km).
You should be cooked and well-done by the time you finish.
