Overview

The Awesome Audley (36.01km and 16.0km options) is a new run and would be described as "very testing, adventurous, for experienced runners" but definitely very runnable for the fit athlete (it does not go on or near Lady Carrington Drive at any point). There will be a couple of shorter options for the weak-hearted. There will be opportunities to refill with water or (gasp) even a shop at halfway.

Important Info

  • Starts 7am, TBA, starting at Reid's Flat, Audley in the Royal National Park.
  • Cost - nil, totally free
  • Aid supplied - none (although a couple of shops in Bundeena and creek water if you dare)
  • Awards - none
  • Discussion on CoolRunning here: http://www.coolrunning.com.au/forums/index.php?showtopic=29989
  • No pre-race rego - just turn up in a state of advanced readiness!
  • No track markings

Timing of the run - Tides

There is a long stretch of this run that is only possible to run at low tide only. It should be low tide at 07.30am on the day of the run and high tide again at 1.42pm.

Directions to Start at Reids Flat, Audley

Reids Flat is at the end of Riverside Rd in Audley, RNP. It will take about 40 minutes to drive there from Sydney. Get onto the Princess Highway. Follow it South until you reach Loftus. Turn left onto Farnell Avenue and carry on down Farnell Av into Audley. The first road on your left before you cross the weir is Riverside Rd.

Royal National Park Access

The main road in the park is open 7x24 but the boom gate at the entrance Reid's Flat (approx 2km from Loftus entrance) is closed overnight. The advertised opening hours are 7am-8.30pm but in summer it is approx 5.30am to 9pm. You need to pay $11 per access to the RNP if you don't have a pass, but the toll booths will be closed on arrival for the start (you just drive straight thru). If you feel honest, you can buy a ticket at the toll booth on the way out or at the Visitor Centre. If there is an inspection during the run you will have a note under your windscreen asking you to pay and you just pay the $11 in person or online within a week or a month. If you don't have a note then you can drive out if you are dishonest.

Long Option (36km)

Some maps and instructions will be handed out on the day - but if you can, please bring your own

Medium Option (24km)

  • This will be led by a local & knowledgeable runner
  • Awesome Audley 24km Course instructions
  • Note: It's quite acceptable to short cut the route anyway you like, "no rules". Its more an opportunity for runners to attempt the route as outlined, no one really cares how long it takes you.

Short Option (16km)

  • The best short route (approx 16km) would be: Run the main route with everyone for 7km. Take the easy exit onto Maianbar rd, follow road back to the 29km route, then complete the rest of the route (the first 5km is the same as the last 5km so easy to re-trace the route).
