Well done all.  I noticed yesterday that some of the new posters had registration numbers over the 15,000.

It's a great testament to the longevity of this community and the value that it provides for runners of all levels.  Here kind-hearted people are so willing to share experiences and give advice, to prop others up when things aren't going to plan and to cheer vociferously when they are - that is what community is all about.

Great job. Give yourself a pat on the back

Yes I just noticed that too! welcome to all the newbies (we've had registration problems with the site so hope there may be a few more coming along soon). Quite an achievement, thanks to Kev and the other "early adopters" for starting it off, and to all you coolrunners out there for keeping it going

Ah yes, statistics.
however :

Quote

We have 7,536 registered members
as per the bottom of this page. A lot of people signup but then never visit again or post, so periodically I delete all members on zero posts who haven't logged in within 6 months (ie that is 50% of all members!).

Statistics and statistics use them in various way but the existing members is still a great number.

I am very proud to be member 30 and still online.

I was talking to a number people involved in running over the last week or so and the general feeling seems to be that there is a renewed interst in running with entries in most events up significantly. There maybe many reasons for this but I have no doubt this site and the members have contributed to this in a very large way.

Bigger and better in the future I hope - both for this site and running in general.

As a relatively new runner, and a new member to the CR community I belive that CR works for the follow reasons
  • people are supportive and interested in others
  • bad attitudes and negativity is not encouraged or appripriate. There is an excellent community feel to CR
  • There is room for every type of runner ( or Cool Walker )
  • the inofrmation that is given on this site is borne from great experience and willingly shared
  • the options provided by this site are outstsanding ( news, race info, blogs, community news, archive, etc etc)
  • there is a consistent growth component...things aren't stagnant
  • the moderators are well chosen and do their job effectively
  • most of all their is a safety and natural enthusiasm here, that money can't buy. The CR site is incredible. Its enriched my running life, and as i read other posts i see that it is a shared experience by many people.
Thank you again to Kev, all the solid contributers e.g. Eagle, Peterhorse, Footman, Mango, Owl, people who have been here forever like Tesso, Colin, Tim, UCB, FPT, BRFC, Plu etc and the more recent people who have made such a difference, like Wombatoutofhell, Sook54, Ratty, Pheonix,Colsy, cakeboy, Staypuff  and Mosmanmum.
You and I both know that we could rattle off hundreds of names and still miss people out.
CR really is an excellent place to come to, lets never take it for granted.
Cheers

Having resolved my recent registration issues to join the other day I noticed I had the honour of being the 15,000 member (statistical interpretations aside)

I had been watching the site for a while and found it to be useful and informative and -  importantly for me -  motivating. I love the fact that there are runners at all levels so there is usually someone out there as committed and at a similar level.

Also some of the guys I think are 'out there' in terms of their training regime (see recent thread on this topic by StellaBella which scared me a bit  ) I still find motivational cos it makes me realise what is acheivable (whilst still getting to my desk at 8am everyday and putting in the hours) and so makes me look again at my own expectations of myself.

Thanks for all the input/thoughts/considerations/humour and encouragement - look out for me in the inner west Sydney - I'm the one in the new CR singlet (when it turns up:))

Cheers

Welcome to CR Rach... you'll find loads of support and encouragement here.  Congratulations on becoming the 15,000th member - did your screen start to flash and make loud noises when you registered?

Maybe JoggerKev could shout you a free hat as a prize ;)

Thanks plodbod - no flashing screen which was probably just as well since I was at my desk at work and really probably should have been doing my job  Oh well I'm sure my employers benefit from my interest in fitness....better general health, levels of concentration, less sick days etc.

by using list of members ---- date of joining  -  ascending - Eagle appears to be 21 and many have very few posts so some are missing and some have posted very little Spud so might not be as interesting as you thought

we have moved software a few times and so some of the data was not captured as previous iterations didn't handle it, but for maths nerds, you might something of use here. if any dates are wrong its my calculations (database stores seconds since 1/1/1970 ?!)

Hi Kev,

while were on the subject, and out of interest, would you have the following stats for CR?
- Monthly unique visitors
- Monthly Frequency
- Average session duration
- Monthly page inpressions

This is great to hear. Among other things contributing could be stuff like The Biggest Loser, Better health programs in schools, corporate health programs etc.
Whatever the reasons, it's all good!   ;)

Thanks Kevin,

that's a pretty impressive set of statistics.

To have 15,000 registered members, but over 100,000 visitors every month is quite a feat.

Thinking back, I was probably reading/visiting CR for about a year before I took the plunge and became a member.

Which raises other questions.
1) Should we be doing more to get 'lurkers' to become members?  Is there a benefit to CR in this?

2) If advertising funds this site, should we extract a greater degree of demographic information from the audience so that our ad sales become more profitable (and thereby help fund the site more easily)?

When I started running about a year ago, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing (and probably still dont!!), but I've learnt so much, and been inspired, from reading other peoples experiences on CR that I dont know what I'd do without it.  When I turn on the PC now, CR is the first site I go to.

I should add that these figures come from the ACTIVE members database.  n=7573.

Yup, still love those stats.  Oh, and moved 1 closer to that illustrious 2000+ list.  I wonder what other crap I can post to keep the count ticking over?   :)

15,000 member is a hell of a lot for a small little running site in Australia.

unfortunately we don't capture state info. you can put in location, but many don't. also many foreigners sign up to ask questions also.

I'm trying to do that as well FPT

really trying to keep to below 1500 posts by the end of the tax year in case I have problems with bracket creep
