I have lots more footage from old races that I will be uploading shortly. I have been a but busy of late but when I get time I will post some links to some great footage of people you may know. I am pretty sure I even have some footage of Digger finishing MM from the 80's and early 90's.

I have uploaded the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the 1987 World Champs and the 1988 Olympic Marathons. The hype and excitement before and during these races is something us Aussies don't get to experience anymore. In all races there were Deeks, Mona and Lisa Martin who were all serious medal chances and won medals in some of these races. I urge you to have a peek.

in the 86MM there is footage of who I think is a good old friend of mine. Competing in his first Marathon. The bloke in the pink on the wheelchair. Made me laugh a little. Got to go back through the footage to find it again to show him.

The official camera truck: it's a ute with a bullbar, and what looks like a lounge chair taken from the Channel 7 foyer and bolted onto the back tray.
The Big M Girls in their short-shorts and Big M Melbourne Marathon windcheaters. I reckon you could sell those tops on ebay for several hundred now.
5000+ marathoners, all wearing cotton gear, no gels, no garmins, water only. And heaps running 2.40/2.50 like it's no big deal.
Everyone wearing short-shorts.
80's hair is everywhere.
The cheesy commentary (it's a half-hour doco) is at times priceless.
At the finish: free showers, free hot-tubs and free buffet (looks like beer too) for all runners.
Peter Landy interviewing Grenville Wood (who finished second to the great Juma Ikangaa). Peter obviously wasn't one of the world's great listeners:
"Were you happy with your race?"
"Yes, except for the fact I had some groin trouble which slowed me down from about the 25k mark."
"So, any physical problems out there?"
"Well, there was that groin trouble i just told you about..."
Well worth a look to see some old-school marathon action.

Digger, on 08 June 2010 - 01:23 PM, said:
Click for the 1983 Canberra Marathon
So if you have some video's somewhere, get them to us, or load them up yourself.
In the process of watching the second video, I see a psychologist describing the six profiles of marathoners including the repossessed, the possessed, the born again, the obsessive and two others which escape me. Perhaps he should be getting out there and participating in a marathon himself, thereby being able to slap a label on his profile, which could--could have by now?--cause him to reassess his method of dumping every runner into a nice, neat, descriptive, and at times derogatory, box.

Not sure what the protocol is here, but I'm more than willing to pay for footage, if need be. At a minimum, it's only fair that I pay for shipping. I'm an American (married to an Australian who has lived in the US since her teens). Thanks in part to my wife, I'm a huge fan of Moneghetti and Deek (both make the short list of my favorite marathoners), so I'd be thrilled to pick up anything they ran on Australian soil (all I have are some marathons they ran abroad and the 1990 Great North Run w/ Moneghetti).
Thanks again. If anyone has anything they want to share, post in this thread, PM me, or e-mail me. Hope to hear from someone.

As for footage of Deeks, Mona etc, I would settle for youtube for satisfaction as asking people to post o/s is probably asking a bit much unless you have something to trade.
If you had Australian races from years gone by then I would be happy to do some sort of trade but asking us to post to a stranger on the other side of the planet is a bit too much in my opinion.
Once again for those who may be able to help, I am after Australian races from the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 00's. Races like C2S, GCM, MM etc. I am not so much interested in Olympics and Commonwealth Games. I am more interested in races that ordinary plodders like us compete in.
I have built up quite a collection due to the help of several people (Digger, Crowpower, Bob Fickel to name a few) but I am always looking for more. If anyone can help then definitely let me know.

Don't have much of anything to offer in Australian races, unfortunately.
