Thanks Ramone, but it would have been good to have you there. Good luck for your 100 next weekend!

I was wondering about the nose bleed too! Is that Simon Uphill? He usually does really well, and I think finished 3rd this year. Maybe he stacked it? Face plant? Easy to imagine happening on the downhill section.  :D

(Usually it is Birip's job to be dramatic and bloody!!)

I hope that Lions is able to keep the route the same. Wouldn't quite be the same without the ascent of Addison to begin with.  You are right Buakaw, there usually are marshals at Maryvale Road. Drink stops? They were perfectly placed for me.

Pretty sure that is Simon Uphill, he was running in first place at that stage, all the pics are in the order they were taken.  I was feeling bad as people noticed me off the side of the track and some just about took a tumble on those ruts everyone was jumping over, than would have made a great action shot....  :D

Great Day, well done every one.
A few PBs run by people as well by the sounds of it.
lock73 great pictures I think you were in a good spot to take some action photos.
You even managed to make it look as though I was running fast, well done.

Anyone know when, where or if the official results will be posted?
I want to know who the young guy I raced to the end was.
It was a great battle ( for about 80th).

Yes, that was Simon (Uppill not Uphill). Apparently he got the nosebleed going up Ghost Tree Gully. Hasn't had one for a while.

Summer Series orienteering programme, if anyone is interested: http://sa.orienteeri...t_2010_2011.pdf

:D  I thought that 'Uphill' was too good a name for an orienteerer to have! Not a nice spot to have a nosebleed I would imagine. Commiserations.

How do events like these treat the ankles?  I would love to do a few trail runs, and live fantastically close to both this run and the Heysen Trail, but at the moment I have propensity for twisting my ankles every time I hit the country roads and am concerned that I would last about 20 metres before I did myself an injury.

Running hills is actually good for strengthening muscles and joints and some people add it to their week specifically for this purpose. Like anything else you just need to ease into it. Probably more likely to get an injury from running on hard surfaces than to injure your ankle running trails/hills. Some people would sell their Grandmother to live next to the hills so you better take advantage of it... :D

Here are some previous results (event started in 1999):

2004 Ryan Cox 25.13 Edit: 55.13 (haha thanks Lock)
2005 Peter-John Bosch 51.01 (apparently the 3rd fastest time recorded in the event to 2005)
2006 Matt White 51.15
2007 Matt White 51:01
2008 Matt White 50:15
2009 Dale Engler 50.35
2010 Brendan Newell 53:16

I would be surprised if 2008 wasn't close to the record...Matt is one very fit Iron-man and Dale Engler was 3rd in the Melbourne Marathon in 2009.

If you read the 2004 race report properly Ryan Cox's time that year was 52minutes 13 seconds, which is a fantastic effort on such a tough course!!!

The Black Hill Challenge is a fantastic and well run event, certainly worth doing!
