12 foot track 7am Sat 13 Aug 2011

Or is it instead a spectacularly stupid thing to do prior to taper, being 90km long just 3 weeks out?
Thoughts?

3 weeks should be plenty of time for your taper.
Some might argue 12ft is as tough as Syd TW?

For you it would be a great workout...... Most likely a top stroll in the mountains. Maybe even back up the next day and run C2S.
Word of warning if not accustomed to the distance, you could come out the back end fine or else with ITB, runners knee, tendinosis or some other nasty overuse injury. I have had all of them after various long runs such as 12ft, TW, GOW. High hammy tendinosis is the latest souvenir from GOW.
Frankie, not sure of your ultra experience, but also have a think about an abridged version rather than the full monty. Anywhere from 50-60km at an easy pace would be a nice hit out 3 weeks out and would minimise risk of overuse injury.
Or, you can just follow the crowd. Most likely wave starts this year.

Frankie, 60-70kms on the TW course itself (with some night running) would be the perfect training.

yes - train on the course - 100kms or near enough is alot of track to learn. Estimate where you hope to be at sunset and ensure you do from that point on at night.
once you know the course, train on stages 1 & 2 - they're hardest and the most scenic to boot

Yes, fair enough.
I reckon I will stick to the TW course and limit to 60-70km. Also, avoiding the 12FT conga on both out and return legs will be a plus.

Would you go and run 41km at race pace 3 weeks before a road marathon? Probably not...

Who goes at race pace during a fatass run?
Most people us fatass runs as long training runs not races.

I thought the question was fair and a couple of balanced answers were given (granted one of the answers was mine). It wasnt what you would do, it was whether the option was right for the person asking the question, and reading into it what his goal race was. I took some liberty in guessing his ultra experience, based on other posts.
Comforting to know I am 'soft'. On the flip side, are you 'hard' because you can back up??? Of course the answer is no. What people do is all relative to their bodies, capabilities and experience. Noone is better or worse / harder or softer, whether they run 1,5,10,21.1,42.2, 100 or 200km.
Enough of my preaching and sh#t stirring. I am about to harden up and go to work.

Just fishing and when you have such a big fish on the line with only a hook on the line you just have to keep winding him in. :Hook_Line_And_Sinker:

It is 12' track not 6' track unless this year we have 200 people turn up.

My tongue was in my cheek. No ultra exp (hence my q's) but a couple of six foots and a couple of road marathons. That's all.
Wanting to run maybe 18hrs for TW100 but had no particular speed in mind for Twelve Foot in the leadup.
Thanks all.

It currently has the wrong 12FT start time of 7am, Saturday, 6th August 2011.
City2Surf is on Sun 14th August 2011, so the correct 12 Foot start time is definitely:
7am Sat 13th August 2011

What do you all eat over 11-14 hours, given that you have to carry it all with you?
Secondly, what do you wear (I don't get up to the mountains much in winter, particular to run in the cold)? I assume you layer up, but again you have to carry what you take off.

Fresh fruit early in the race (like bananas) so I don't have to carry them for long.
Dates or other high calorie dried fruit for lightweight fuel. Sometimes I rehydrate the dates by soaking them in water for about 30 minutes while I run.
A few celery stalks is always nice when I'm after something that isn't sweet. They are lightweight and a great source of minerals.

Run in shorts or skins with non nipple rubbing shirt, although a white shirt with bleeding nipples does look impressive.
Wear a lightweight all-weather jacket that you can tie around your waist when you don't need it.
Wind cutting gloves and beanie give you a lot of control over body temp. Simply put them in your pockets if you start getting too warm. Pockets in tri-shirts or cycling jerseys are very handy as are shorts with zip up pockets. Combined with pockets in your jacket you can get away with carrying a pretty small pack.
Carry long thermal tops and bottoms in case you slow down too much to stay warm.
Carry spare, dry socks. Change into them to prevent blisters as soon as you get grit in wet socks (e.g. after going through mud).
The beauty with 12 foot track is that it is an out-and-back race so you can stash things to pick up again on the return journey. But beware, because once you drop something, you are committed to going back and getting it. Never leave yourself without truly essential items for long (i.e. nightgear + food + water + space blanket or clothing to keep warm if you slow down). Sometimes things don't go exactly to plan in the mountains.

Wadaye, the only FatAss calendar is at http://www.coolrunni...?title=Calendar
Who knows who usually maintains the FatAss calendar? Is it Kevin? Spud? Several people?
Perhaps it isn't surprising there were only 7 starters for Poor Man's Comrades 2011 when the run has already happened and still isn't listed on the FatAss calendar.
Who has the power to add to the calendar?
Can I be added to the Fat Ass admins? I'm an experienced IT guy.

The Hermann Double of 12FT followed by C2S isn't challenging enough.
Instead I'm raising the bar and introducing the "12FT Redeye" variation, following 12FT with a Sunday flight to the US.

Looks like lady luck is playing with me.
I have 12FT on the 13th at 7am.
And in the Nov GNW100s I have race #13 and it will be my 7th attempt at the full monty.
I guess as long as the 7s and 13s balance out, it's all good right?
...and no I ain't superstitious, just a geek when it comes to numbers.
