BodyGlide / SportShield Performance test

I have done about 120km of testing with both bodyglide and sportshield (50 with sportshield and 70 with bodyglide) and thought I'd share my experiences with you.
First - Nipples - neither worked for me, so I'm back to micropore or cloth tape. But I have man boobs that would probably benefit from a nice crop top :-)
Second - Inner thighs - Well, After many years of chafing and then running in lycra shorts, I can finally go for runs in running shorts (the ones with the the briefs sewn in ) WITHOUT chafing. Both products worked well, however they feel very different.
Sportshield feels slippery, which I preferred as Bodyglide would make me feel like I was still rubbing (more of a 'dry' product that SportsShield). I found that Sportshield (I had the pre-soaked towlette version) I could use in certain other places that made my runs completely chafe free. The downside was that the towlette was so damn slippery I could barely pull it out of the packet. I expect the roll on would be more practical.
Longest run so far with either product has been 24km with a single application. have not had to re-apply yet.
I think it will come down to personal preference, as both products worked well for me, I just preferred the 'feel' of SportShield.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I am not affilliated in any way with either company, nor do Iexpect to profit from recommending one product over another.

Bodyglide and SportShield... well I was a massive convert to Bodyglide when I first tried it. It happened when I found my thighs grew (which I blamed on cycling) and it stopped the chafing there, perfectly. It was better than vaseline, which feels thick and revolting and gets really, really hot when you start working hard.
Also, a lot of women suffer chafing under the arms from bra tops - ever wonder why more women than men run with their elbows out like chooks? - it fixed this too. Finally, when I used it on my feet, I could do a half marathon without socks, and it would stay on for a swim and 90km of bike riding before hand - very useful for a triathlete.
I wore it at the Caboolture Dusk to Dawn 12 hour race and didn't blister - I only reapplied when I changed my socks. I also didn't get any chafing and only changed my shirt once and didn't change my shorts.
At Kurrawa last year, I got bad chafing on my hips from my Camelbak Catalyst - my shirt didn't cover me. So at Six Foot Track I made sure I got plenty of bodyglide on my hips, and on my feet. Despite getting wet all over when I stacked it during the creek crossing, absolutely no chafing.
There is no doubt that Bodyglide works. But lets face it, it doesn't smell too pretty.
I tried SportShield and immediately liked the feel of it. It worked well and is very, very slippery. I haven't used it as much in running - mostly because I haven't run so much lately - but it has certainly passed the test. I applied it before a run and went for a half hour swim afterwards, and it was still there after my swim.
I've used it for bike rides of up to 160km on rough roads, with no chafing at all. I also used it in a 24hr MTB race I did last weekend. I applied it on Saturday morning, when I put on my first pair of knicks. I reapplied on Sunday morning when I changed my knicks. No chafing at all. Everyone at the event was very impressed.
And it doesn't smell bad. It has very little smell at all, but it's a nice smell.
I'll add BlisterShield into the mix. SportShield is pretty slippery stuff to be putting on one's feet. I've used BlisterShield only twice, but I've had good results from it. It's a powder you put into your socks. You still have to get your socks on right, though, that's the challenge ;)
Summary: it's all great stuff, and far, far superior to vaseline, but Sportshield smells better.

Have had all conditions from hot to cold and raining. I have used on nipples / upper arms / inner thigh and undies line.
So far the only time it failed was during a 4hr30min session of technical terrain running. And it was only in one very sensitive location, not sure if anything would have made a difference that day....
Happy so far - I have used it a fair bit and am happy with the econmy so far.

I have never noticed a smell with Bodyglide but that could be my sense of smell or the fact that I soon sweat profusely after I start running.
Not used the other products (SportShield and BlisterShield) before. Where are these available from and what is the price like?

Good to know this product is seeping into the subconscious. Daniel Green also sells it from his Run For Your Life shop.

My tape came off nipples 3/4 of the way through the GH (too hairy)thankfully I had SportShield in my bumbag and it got me through the rest of the event.
Seriously, I'm going to invent a better nipple guards or have them surgically removed!

Never tried Body Glide.
I have always used Bandaids for the nips and have big problems when they fall off. In the GH80 a couple of weeks ago I tried Sportshield for the first time. Only applied once before the race and it is brilliant stuff. Never had a problem with chafing on the nipples or anywhere else it was used.

I use it for all runs longer than 5k and think it's the greatest invention since sliced bread... that is if you can compare chafing between the legs and bloody nipples to sliced bread...
I haven't tried SportShield but my philosophy is if you're on a good thing, stick to it!

Davo, women already perfected a brilliant nipple guard - it's called a bra.

I think that I would look a bit silly in a bra. Could you imagine it, here is my pile of running shoes, there is my huge collection of socks and over there is my bra collection. Varying designs for different distances and terrain. Mrs Screaming would leave me for sure. Humm...that's an interesting idea!!!

I noticed it in the R4YL shop but it was $4 dearer and I wanted to support a Coolrunner.
As I have only used Bodyglide before I purchased 1 bottle to trial it at this stage. May get more later on.
Looking forward to the postie visit this week.
I like the paypal option for payment but is there any chance to do bank transfer instead?

But couldn't we wear a bra, (you know, one of those lacy black ones), and just tell everyone it's a heart rate monitor?
It might set a few other hearts racing.... :P

Been trialling Sportshield and, to a lesser extent, Blistershield for a month or so.
Used to be the case that I did all my running in bike style shorts to ward off the dreaded inner thigh chafe. A couple of months ago curiosity got the better of me and I bought a couple of pairs of el cheapo high cut running shorts and tried them with Bodyglide applied to the appropriate areas. I enjoyed the freedom of the loose shorts, but still wore the bike style shorts for the long stuff- Bodyglide wasn't quite that durable or comfortable (feels a bit greasy...). I have used Bodyglide for years for various running related chafes...
About a month ago I got my hands on some sachets of Sportshield and have used that instead of the Bodyglide. Had a laugh when I tried to get the wipe out of the packet for the first time- it was so slippery it slipped right out of my fingers.
I can report that I've done training runs of 32K, 42K, 58K and 70K- and a 25K race- with high cut shorts and Sportshield in the last few weeks and had no chafing or discomfort at all. Nor did I need to reapply during said runs, which lasted up to 10 hours. I like it enough that I've bought two more pairs of high cut shorts (more expensive ones)... no greasy sensation either.
Have only tried Blistershield once so far, during the 70K run. (Shorter runs are not a blister risk for me.) My feet had started to get a few hots spots early on after getting wet, so tried Blistershield at the 41K mark. Feet got no worse in the last 30Ks of that run. Can't really comment on the effectiveness of this product yet- more evaluation needed.
Bottom line- former Bodyglide man now converted to Sportshield.
