Hmmm... I fly out today to the UK, followed by a dash over the pond for the Paris Marathon. However, I seem to have injured myself last weekend, doing Tough Mudder. Maybe a broken or bruised rip (hurts to breath, lying down very uncomfortable). Wondering if I'll heal quick enough to run!...

Well, there's good news, and bad news. I'll start with the bad.
I didn't quite hit my time goal for the 8km yesterday (37:20) - got 00:37:42. I lost a few seconds when directed "8km runners to the right, 4km to the left" - but I was on my second lap, and should have gone left - but even generously, that could only have been 10...

Well, I haven't exactly made the great return-to-running that I suggested in the last blog post. In fact, I've only run three times in that 10 days (18,10,8 km). Which puts me 30 behind on my whole "average 5km/day" thing.
Been finding motivation really hard recently - with no running buddy, and life and stuff getting in the way.

Well, after a couple of weeks being a total slackass (I was off scuba diving in NSW, attending a technical diving conference, and generally hitting the town with my mates) it's time to get back into running. Over the break I've gained a few kilos, so it's time to get serious. Damn serious. Yeah.

Well, since I posted this in a forum, I might as well do so here. I've drawn up a schedule of events (and hence goals) for 2011. I find that my motivation is best maintained by having a series of small goals, and one large one - so here's my schedule.
9 Jan - City 2 Bay (10km) GOAL<0:50:00 COMPLETE 49:33

Well, I completed my first 15km event yesterday, after a week of TOTAL inactivity. While I did mean to taper a bit before the race, events in Christchurch (my home town) have kept me preoccupied. My folks happened to be staying with my in Melbourne at the time, but my in-laws and lots of my friends are displaced. No reports of serious injuries at...
Well, as discussed in my last blog post, I got some new shoes and orthotics last week. Went for my first run in these this morning, to do a 60 minute run deferred from Sunday. It didn't start well - some pain in my left hip - but that went away once I warmed into it. However, at 5km mark, started getting some pain on the inside of my right foot. Stopped...
I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I've been having some problems with one of my feet. It started with a lump on the top of the foot, and morphed into pain town the toes and general discomfort.
I went to my local 24 hour clinic (bad move), and was seen my some doc, who was literally googling for things like "ganglion cyst" during...

After a totally slack couple of days, I dragged my lazy behind out again this morning for another "15km Race Simulation". I'm entered in the 15km Sri Chinmoy event on the 27th, and my online coach has set me a target of 73:45 (4:55/km). When we first discussed this, a month or two ago, I thought that was pretty unrealistic, given that my 10km...
I bought a box of mixed Gels the other day, based on my experience with a couple bought on a whim at the local cycle store. I figured I'd try a couple of my 15km runs, just so I wasn't trying something new during an event. So far, I've tried the Orange Burst (yuck!) and the Expresso Love (harsh, but tolerable). Previously I'd tried...
