I have the rest of Feb off work
so looking forward to plenty of running and walking in NZ. It was atrocious yesterday afternoon, so glad I ran in the morning when it was still cool. I really notice how much later the sun is getting up these days, suits me very well so I can spend more of the run in the shade.
This morning was my usual midweek longish run with Suzi. I have a new postgrad student staying with us who arrived just yesterday from Melbourne, so he tagged along with us so I could show him a few landmarks on the cycle routes into Uni and the city. He has done a bit of running in the past, and is a very fit cyclist, but I think the 12km might have been a bit much for his legs and feet. Did a few stops and starts along the way before I caught up with Suzi at Le Montage, then we did a lap of the Bay and came back home, about 12km all up (plus a km or so walking at the end). It was fortunately not too ferocious in the sun when we were on the Drummoyne side of the Bay (only about 7am) but now really heating up. There were definitely fewer people out and about than there have been recently.
I only just realised that this heat is set to continue right through till Saturday when Striders 10km is on out at Homebush, not the coolest spot in Sydney (it was 43 out there yesterday I believe). Could get ugly.
I have to figure out how to fit my running schedule around lots of planned walking on our NZ trip next week. At least it should be cooler over there!
Other running news from Chez Sook - I've entered the SMH half! I will possibly do it (as last year) in the middle of a long training run for Macleay valley marathon 4 weeks later.

Re holiday walks - Heather & I have a theory that if the walk makes running tough then it probably counts as a workout. So if she walks 6hrs with me she doesn't run but if she walks 60-90min with me she usually runs as well. (I don't like it that my midweek stuff is just extra for a runner but agree that it doesn't really count as a workout for a fit person)
Have fun
