Hello readers, if there are any of you still left after my lengthy absence. Other writing projects have taken over my time and my brain I'm afraid.
I did the SMH half marathon this morning. This wasn't really a target race for me (I'm aiming for the Macleay half-marathon in a month), but since I was away for work this week and couldn't do more than a few 8km runs my legs were very fresh and when my fellow strider and regular running buddy Suzi announced she was going to go for a good time I thought I might as well keep her company. It was a real struggle to battle through the crowds to find her at the start (thank goodness for mobile phones eh).
I thought the new course was good - didn't have to watch my feet quite as much as last year and I think it was good to have the field strung out a bit before there were any twists and turns. The hills I thought weren't as troublesome as on the old course (or maybe that's just my extra hill training kicking in). Once we got across the start line I didn't really have to stop running again till the finish line which was a complete standstill.
Big thanks to Suzi - we kept each other honest! She dragged me along to a new pb of 1:51:4x. Will be interesting to see what the official time is, there was such a crush at the finish line it probably took a few seconds to actually get across it. I thought I'd stopped my watch at the finish line but unfortunately no, finally noticed and turned it off a few minutes later.
As was commented on the thread, there weren't as many CR colours visible this year (I am guilty too, my visor has finally succumbed to too many washes). Thanks to the Owl for some good cheers nevertheless!
I had parked at work and ran the 2.8km to/from the start either end of the run to make it something like 27km all up.
