We were away last week in Adelaide, and I had hoped to get into town for a run around the Torrens. All was looking fairly promising, until in the early hours one morning, my right calf muscle decided to cramp…….and was incredibly painful. Sharing a room with Gadfairy (Mr Gadfly was staying with my Gran as he is allergic to cats…and my Aunt has a very fluffy one!), so I had to be quiet. Thankfully, I had taken my compression socks with me so I hobbled over to find them. Managed to pull it on and tried not to move at all and get some sleep. I was unable to put much weight at all on it in the morning, but managed to hobble into the shower and it started to loosen a little. A morning walking around the zoo (flat thank goodness!) and compression sock on for 24hours and it seemed to come good again. But my time to go running had run out – with various other things planned, late nights after keys being locked inside the house, it wasn’t going to happen.
We had a lovely time seeing family, but I think the highlight for us all was High tea with my 93 yr old Gran and 98 yr old Great aunt. They are amazing ladies, still very bright and happy, and were so pleased to have Gadfairy to keep them amused too! It was certainly a very special afternoon. Then it was time to come home, always sad to leave as it’s always far too long between visits.
Back home and I decided to head out on the bay Sat morning to prove to myself I could still run. It was soooo humid, and a fairly slow run, but I took it easy and had no breathing or leg problems so I was pleased. Another lap on the bay on Monday morning (even slower ….but I wasn’t too surprised after not running at all for 10 days and then twice in 3 days) and I was feeling a little more motivated. Training this morning was good. A nice way to get back into it to with ‘the usual’ group (2 of us and Brent) and hopefully a few people returning and some new faces on Friday.
I haven’t planned any short term running goals as yet this year until I see my GP and sort out BP meds in a week or 2. I have a long term goal looking ahead for next year, but have a lot to keep going steadily onwards for that one….
Work is getting busy again and school holidays are fast coming to the end. School shoes bought this morning, some uniform stuff yesterday and now to check the state of the jumpers in the bottom of the washing basket!
Speaking of washing……better go and fold some …
Run well and run safe.

I hope the BP meds work so you can just run & enjoy it.
My 12 hr is on the 5/6th Feb in Canberra - are you thinking of trying a time run? They sound challenging but fun - I might have a different view in a few weeks!
