Trail run from home - 3:50 hours

Posted by plu , 26 May 2012 · 229 views

Hi all,

I headed out for a long  trail run today. 3:50 hours - I just measured it the run was 19 km 12 minutes per km or 5km per hour - I need to get to about 7 km per hour to be able to do a trail ultra.  That would make 100 km on a similar very hilly course - if I can hold the pace with no breaks like today in 20 hours.

It was just a test run for the foot and to improve my trail experience.    I don't have a lot of confidence on the trail and this run helped build up a positive mind set. Got lost three times  but this time around I was more composed and able to work out where I went wrong and got back on track.

I went to  Jungo then the west side of Westleigh, then under the Hornsby rifle range to the bridge at Quarry road. Then up a quarry road back along road to Manor road then into the Hornsby Valley road area then up the northern side of Westleigh and then home.  On the wrong side of the river once and then in Westleigh east side took a wrong turn.

There was a section of closed track on the south side of Westleigh and I was not going to turnaround and go back to Hornsby so had a bit of a bush bash till on other side of closed track.  I did decide to come home along the spine of Westleigh running on the grass. I was beginning to feel the foot after three hours and the old hip groin soreness was starting to come back as well.

One hour to the end of Westleigh in the bush. Then 50 minutes to bridge on Quarry Road in 1:50 . Then 40 minutes to Trail head at Manor Road in 2:30 and home in 3:50 hours.  I carried my Salomon XA 20 with long tights, long sleeve thermal and jacket - did not use them but had them if I went too far and had to bail and train it home. . Ran in shorts, short sleeve thermal, tri top and had arm warmers. Just drank water and had two bars.

Once home I put my feet in the pool for 15 minutes.  Got through okay. I will be going back to the 40 minute 6 km trail runs as the main diet.  CP 50 in September is the focus.

Cheers Plu
