Being notoriously bad at sticking to a plan, I have finally discovered the secret to a successful outcome. The plan should begin with "Don't". eg Don't go running for a fortnight. Yes. I can do that. My long run has currently reached 26k, but not without some pain to the knee. This is what prompted the 2 weeks abstention from running. Not that I expected the layoff to help (and I was correct there) but it gave me time to seek a bit of advice. A new pair of shoes was in order and the wife didn't flinch at the $180 I paid for Brooks "The Beast" runners. or the fact that I will probably need to do this twice a year now. My main remedy though is to do 25 squats 3-4 times during my long run. A change in my work roster made it difficult to return to a good running routine but there was no risk I would quit.
Just handed out a couple of posters yesterday in an attempt to drum up a local 5k challenge. I really enjoyed the Adelaide run last year but I don't expect to get there nearly often enough.
