5k Run - Coffee / Breakfast

Posted by dingoonthetrot , 06 February 2009 · 221 views

Perhaps as important to me as posting a good time, is meeting other runners.  It's taken me way too long to find the locals however we have finally organised a monthly run and coffee.  The inaugural event last Sunday saw five of us turn up and I know the numbers are likely to increase considerably. We met at the Cave Gardens and ran up to the lake, clockwise around it and return for coffee at 'Sorrentos'.
The next big thrill was to be introduced to the Thursday group.  These guys have been meeting regularly for about 2 yrs and I've missed them because I sleep in.  They meet at 5.30am!! The early starts may take a little getting used to again but the thrill of running with others is a great incentive.
The other significant decision in my running life is that to postpone my first marathon until next year. To run these distances I need water and the Camelback I want is too expensive to justify just going out and getting it. Soooo.  I hope for a very special Christmas present this year.  In the mean time I will try to improve my 10k time.  Would love to finish the Adelaide C2B (12K) in sub 50m.  Still got 3 minutes between me and that goal.

There are definitely cheaper options than a camelbak out there - Denali and the like -  that might be more affordable Plenty of CRs use them and find them perfectly useable. Shame to give up your goal just because of that. Or what about picking up a camelbak or equivalent on ebay and just get a new mouth piece.

Cheers

I checked out e-bay and without knowing anything about camelbacks I couldn't tell a good one or genuine article if I was looking at it. (Being a little older than some, perhaps I'm mistrustful of e-bay also.)  Thanks for recommending the cheaper option though, although I haven't seen anything locally.

I've got a bit under 2 minutes to drop for a sub 50 CTB, so I'll be in the same boat with you. Hope to crack the 50 this year.
Great to see you've started up your own 5km challenge. Hope it goes well,

cheers Dave
