Adelaide Marathon

Posted by dingoonthetrot , 05 September 2009 · 261 views

After all of the training that goes into a marathon, it still came as a shock to find out just how difficult 42K  is.  Full of enthusiasm I went out at what I thought was a reasonable pace.  Wrong.  Everyone who knew what they were doing was overtaking me 15k from the finish.  10k from finish I was too tired to suck the jelly bean and I couldn't coax the gel to the back of the throat.
I think I finished in sub 3. 40  and immediately after the run was telling myself I won't be running a marathon again.  By Tuesday I was devising a strategy for my next marathon.
It was a great course.  Loved the bikeway, the Patawalonga, the Esplanade, the Torrens.  Received great encouragement from spectators

Well I must say that is a bloody good time for a first marathon! Well done you for sticking to it, and as you say, you now have lots of pointers on what you need to improve next time.
