So Frustrated ...

Posted by bennie , 27 April 2010 · 134 views

Hi Everyone,

My recovery is coming along very nicely at the moment... My feet/ankles are going along ok......

i haven't had a run now in errr. a week and it's killing me :-(

How do you keep sane when one of the most grandest/relaxing things is taken away from you?????????? I am so desperate to run.... but i know that i have to wait and recover......

any words of advice???? i really need it right now..... i've got my running bag packed tomorrow but KNOW that i shouldn't/will now run... arrrgghhh! frustration to the max.

nite.
bennie

Hi Bennie Ive been reading about your trials and tribulations. Take it easy, get things right and hopefully you can come back bigger and better. How about a bit of cross training while you are taking it easy; also have a look at some water ginning and swimming. Cheers champ!

Bennie didn't your mother ever tell you to "leave it alone"?

Now it is one of those  times. I knoe EXACTLY how you feel. I have had to take a six week break on 2 occasions. It is like cabin fever.

You just need to accept it. Take a book to work and absorb yourself in it at lunxhtime.

Take your camera in and take some happysnaps...you have a lot of talent there.

I am sure you will be sensible. Perhaps you just need to be a little more imaginative.

As night follows day, the time will pass and you will be out the injusry-free.  Trust me!

My suggestion is to go and do a spin (cycle) class in a gym.  You can really get the HR up and push hard, it's one of the best cross training activities I've done when injured.  With no impact you shouldn't have any problems with your foot injuries, just make sure you don't make the straps too tight on your peddles.  I used to teach these classes and yes you'll get a great workout if you go and do one!  Let me know how you go :)

Hi Bennie,
water running also gives a great workout & also think about doing something non running related that you haven't had time for while in full training. I got into photography which is a strange choice for a person with a shaky right hand but I'd always been interested & never had time while training hard & working. I have a book of my dingo pics coming out later in the year which is something good from something bad.
Please don't hurt your foot further by running too early - never run again - are far harder words to adjust to & even though you do come to terms with a life sentence of not running; in your case this extreme is preventable. It is really, really hard but try to see the big picture.
Hang in there

Keep blogging and catch up with running friends. One of our injured runners, Kermit, has been coming to all our monthly catch up runs for either a walk or just for the breakfast and she say's it makes her feel a part of it even if is through our experiences.

Rest easy
