Okay, although I was mulling over going to Japan to run my first 100k next year, I really haven't been able to get excited about it; not like I did with Comrades in 2010. Lake Saroma is just so difficult to get into (and get to) for an international athlete.
As it happens, I am being given South Africa as a sales territory very shortly, which will mean travel back there. After receiving this news, I went out for a run and started dreaming about running from Pietermaritzburg to Durban again next year; about the challenge of running 89km over those mountains; about running into the Sahara Stadium and crossing that finish line again, proudly wearing an Aussie singlet. Thinking about it made tears well in my eyes. I went home and broached the subject with the General for Home Affairs (my long-suffering wife), made a few commitments to a change in training times, and got the tick.
I guess that's that then! I'm in. Flights and accomodation booked using points. Qualifier set for Hobart in January.
Here we go again. Big dreams, a thousand miles to run between now and then, and lots of blood, sweat and tears. Seems that Comrades fever has struck again. The only cure is to get to the start line.
Wish me luck.
