into the business end of the second mesocycle, with a quicker long run tomorrow, followed by a recovery week. Problems with aches, tenderness, and tightness with calves, anterior tibials, and hamstrings a few weeks ago improved a little after swapping over to a new pair of runners. The middle of my right hammy has been tight for a while, and am long overdue for a sports massage.
Now into my third month of over 400km/month and the daily grind has been taking its toll, without a substantial improvement in fitness or endurance....until this week. For some reason have been feeling fresher this week. My legs get usually get stiff for the last few km of my Wed. and Fri. 20km runs, so my stride shortens and cadence increases, in response, but this seems to have resolved this week. Might have something to do with the absence of a speed session this week, given tomorrow's long run is scheduled for a faster pace. Also, the weather has been a little cooler this week.
Still, the last 8km of my 35km Sunday long runs wear me down. I've just invested in a pair of ASICS Kayanos which I'll reserve for long runs greater than 30km to see if that'll be gentler on the legs, although the extra weight, compared to the 2160s will probably slow me down a little.
Average speed over the past few months has been around 5min6s/km without much variation. Would like to see a little improvement during the third mesocycle, which has a little more speed work.
Might also do a 10km race in 3 weeks; the Hanging Rock "run the rock", as the training program calls for the occasional "tune up race". Might do that one in my DS Trainers.
