Well this will be the 3rd time in a row that I will run at the GCM Festival, and the 3rd time in a row that I have entered the full marathon. I entered a while ago but didnt actually commit to the full marathon until Sunday week ago after racing a 5km event at Runaway Bay and breaking my 5km PB by 2 mins and 29 secs. I admit I havent run a 5km race for 12 months so I was expecting to bag a PB but to go under 21 mins was a major shock.
I felt that it was now or never for the Gold Coast Marathon, after two Personal Worst results in the past two years, I really want to do well this year. I am aiming for a sub 3:40 time, shame I have just picked up a cold today, the Monday before the race!
After Gold Coast I have the Kokoda challenge, a 96km trail teams event here on the Gold Coast. The team are aiming for a time somewhere between 17 - 20 hours. And then after that I am in a search for a fast 10km and 1/2 marathon course to try and knock those PB's off as well.
So, by September I am hoping that I will have acheived a PB in the 5km, 10km, 1/2, and full marathons, have run 6-foot and also Comrades, both under my goal times. Not a bad year for someone that looks so unlikely.
However, its still a long way to go but if I can get through Sunday then I will have taken one huge step.
And good luck to the many thousands of other runners out there this weekend. Enjoy yourselves and keep a smile on your face the whole way!
Finally Comrades 2012, is it possible? Well, I'm working on it. Would love to be there any you never know!
