Short summary of 2011

The running diary for 2011 ended up showing 1,095 km for the year which averages 3km per day.  Before the surgery started in May things were quite good, I did the 6ft track marathon in 7 hrs 20 mins (a finisher but too slow for medal); was doing some speed sessions with Deb in Traralgon and even dabbled in some personal training (sort of Pilates classes).

Then the surgery started and running really became a struggle for the rest of the year.  I ended up having a lot of pathology tests which didn't really show too many problems but were very informative as far as heart functions, blood parameters (I tend to have slightly too high LDL so cheeses etc are now off the menu), lung functions (98% gas exchange sounds pretty good ) and so on.  I went to the cardiologist as the heart rate monitor showed the heart wasn't doing too well on runs (just dead tired I now see) and he put me on his fabulous Diet Sheet1 which basically bans cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes, red meat, dairy except skim and I lost 10kg thus making the return to running this year a lot easier.

I did the annual 100 sessions at Curves gym (at a pretty low level); the bike gave me a lot of nice 10 to 20 km rides which were very cheering in an otherwise bleak time exercise wise.

Now in 2012, I'm doing Curves three times a week and getting much better strength readings; running is getting itself back on track, I've joined the local bushwalking group and done our first overnight walk up in the Snowy River high country, the bike is on a promise to get some work soon, my work milking cows is back on track to earn the money to run the show, I'm starting to discover life as an empty nester as my son is now in Melbourne studying at Uni; the kayak is a good thing and we've done some paddling on Lake Tyers, the Franklin River (in Victoria) etc.  Attached Image
