Well, there's good news, and bad news. I'll start with the bad.
I didn't quite hit my time goal for the 8km yesterday (37:20) - got 00:37:42. I lost a few seconds when directed "8km runners to the right, 4km to the left" - but I was on my second lap, and should have gone left - but even generously, that could only have been 10 seconds.

So, that's kindof a drag - but reflects my poor discipline with training the last month or so.
But, on the upside - I dragged my (overweight, sedentary) 14yo daughter out with me, and she did the 4km walk/run, while I did the 8km run. Her goal was only to finish, and if possible, not let me pass her (two laps). She achieved that, and beat me by a minute or so. Better still, she was super pleased with herself, and really enjoyed the experience! Now she's talking about doing some walking, and coming out on a few more events, and walk/running them. Woop!
Next up for me is a 15km Sri Chinmoy next month

I'll ask the organisers if a slow run/walk is acceptable on their 5km walk, and maybe that can be a goal for her.
