Didn't pull up too badly from Sunday's race - a little niggle at the top of the left ITB, and weirdly, pain in the left shoulder. Probably tensed up over the last ten in the race fighting it out.
I headed into the city mid-morning to attend the Brisbane Running Festival's launch in the Botanic Gardens. Rather than get torn a new one for parking I left the car in Toowong and cycled in, much easier than finding parking or public transport.
The launch was great - we did a 1.2k loop around the gardens with Lee Troop, had some photos taken, and I got to chat to Troopy and Rob de Castella. Both proved approachable, friendly and great guys to talk to - kudos to the BRF for getting them to the launch, and to both the guys for making the effort to get there. Deek made a great speech about the marathon that clicked with me, about it being hard and being proud of yourself of accomplishing something like that, and having it carry into the rest of your lift. I think my 2:48 at Gold Coast has helped me in great measure, proving to myself that if I plan, do the work and carry through, I can achieve. It has brought a mental resilience to me, and made me much more comfortable in myself.
So, cycled back to the car, headed over to the usual spot I do my UQ trail runs from, and did a little 7k tempo at about 4:28 pace, with a bit more effort in the middle 4.5k section for low 4:20s. Unsurprisingly, the legs simply didn't to give up any speed after yesterday. I had thought about doing 11 or so, but it seemed pointless.
Legs loosened up a bit after the effort, so worth it.
