So it's been a week since SMC and given that I took the family on a holiday down the South Coast (Jervis Bay), I thought I'd take it easy. Normally after a marathon I would take a week off running and then ease in. This time, given that I took the marathon a little easier than I would normally, I went for a light run on wednesday, 3 days after. I was surprised that I managed sub 5min/km for the entire 9km run. OK - the run was very flat - maybe a maximum climb of 1m for the entire run but still - i wasn't as fatigued as I though.
I went again on saturday (yesterday) for 18km and found the first 10km great (5min/km again). The next 8 was where I discovered the missing fatigue. Still managed a time far better than any of my previous 2 months but again, I think it was more terrain.
It's been an interesting last 2 weeks running wise thus far.
Tomorrow I'm back to the normal running set with a 17km early morning run - will be good to get back to more familiar territory and not have to worry about possible rotting road kill around the corner (the joys of country running). I then have my favourite free fun run on thursday (Canterbury City Council Australia day 5km). Great event and a nice way to start Australia Day.
