I've been a little quiet on the blog of late - probably because I'm about to go on holidays in little over a week. It's also given me time to enjoy my running rather than using it to train for something.
Up until last week, I was hell bent on running 70km per week as per normal. Then, a little heavy rain (well 110mm in 24hrs) changed the perspective. I got up on Thursday last week to go for a run and it was raining that heavyily that I went back to bed. I decided that Friday would be the make-up day. Aware that the Cook's River had been flooded (river broke it's banks) I wasn't fazed that my normal path might be a little wet.
I started the run and for the 1st km, it was fine. Then I noticed some water, then a little more. Then, my shoes felt a little slippery as I landed in the puddle. After about 1.5km i stopped. My shoes were covered in mud and the river had dumped a good thick layer of mud all over the path. I wrote friday off - content that I hadn't injured myself.
Saturday morning I decided that a new course was in order given that I couldn't guage how bad the conditions on the path were. This turned what could have been a chore into an enjoyable run. Elements of the old were included but as a whole, the run was pleasant. Without wanting, my time wasn't too bad given that I had nothing to measure myself againt other than a garmin.
This leads me to my last long run tomorrow before my holiday. 25.5km should do nicely and it will be paced on how I feel. Not after a time, just want to do it and finish off my March as solidly as my running has been since I came back from Injury in late June. I think I've only missed 2 runs (SMC Dec included) in the whole period so I feel good.
I'll use the 6 weeks to rest and might even try a few short runs whilst in Italy. The runs are more to get rid of the pasta that my family will try to carb load me.
