My holidays

Posted by 42junkie , 06 January 2013 - - - - - - · 258 views

I was fully intending to have some non-running time over the Christmas holidays. But I was feeling so good after ending my running year on a positive note that I didn't want to take a break from running. So I have just been doing the runs I feel like, not worrying about the distance or my weekly totals.

Then we went to Bright for a few days and I had...

Japan

I ended my running year with two marathons in Japan. It was supposed to be three but for unfortunate family reasons I was unable to get to the first one of the trio.

The first marathon I ran was in Naha in Okinawa. It was pretty much a disaster as far as I was concerned and the less said about it the better. Suffice it to say that the marathon took place...

Portland marathon

Posted by 42junkie , 09 November 2012 - - - - - - · 434 views

I was disappointed with my run at Portland. For the past six to eight weeks I have altered my training, and I now do all my running at a slightly faster pace than previously, but in view of all the marathons I run I don't run more than 15 kilometres in training. This change in strategy paid off at the Sydney and Melbourne marathons where I ran my second...

Late blog about Sydney Marathon

Posted by 42junkie , 25 September 2012 - - - - - - · 415 views

Finally getting around to talking about Sydney marathon. My trip to this race was my birthday present from my partner - arranging for both of us to run it, that is, and I think it's a bloody big gift to run a marathon. He did all the training and then supported me while running alongside me. Well that was the idea at least.

I had this idea that I...

Running in Europe

Posted by 42junkie , 03 September 2012 - - - - - - · 528 views

I have just come home after a trip to Europe, the official reason being my nephew's wedding. While away I found the time for a couple of marathons, as one does. I have written about my experience at the Reykjavik Marathon here: http://www.fickelab....ik_Marathon.pdf

You might enjoy some of my...

Another marathon blog

Posted by 42junkie , 07 August 2012 - - - - - - · 402 views

I am a bit slow with getting fingers tapping about the Canberra Bush Capital Marathon on 29 July. A slightly different course this year, with a double out and back off Horse Park Drive, which was a bit tricky to find in the early morning fog.

The course was going to be hilly so I did a deal with myself: allowed to walk the uphills from 25 kilometres...

Hunter Valley Marathon

Posted by 42junkie , 24 July 2012 - - - - - - · 455 views

Had a good time at the Hunter Valley Marathon, without tasting a drop of the local produce for the entire weekend. That wasn't my intention but I realised on my way back to the airport that I had consumed only the beverages of beer, coffee, water and cordial while in the area.

Coming off a less than stellar marathon in Geraldton two weeks ago I was a...

Yarra Flats

Posted by 42junkie , 12 July 2012 - - - - - - · 288 views

Looking for a change from the usual running venues I went for a run at Yarra Flats this morning. I wrote about this place on my earlier book " Running in Australia" and I had not been there for a couple of years. I was interested to see if anything had changed. As I ran along the muddy tracks I was thankful the path was not actually under water,...

Geraldton Marathon

Posted by 42junkie , 10 July 2012 - - - - - - · 287 views

I didn't have the best race at Geraldton but I can't blame anyone or anything except myself. In some ways I had such fond memories of this marathon from last year that it was going to be hard for it to live up to expectations. When we arrived at the start line this year some guys were talking about the heavy rain last year, but all I remember was a...

Sunday run

Posted by 42junkie , 02 July 2012 - - - - - - · 174 views

Didn't do the Gold Coast.  Nope. Instead I went for a delightful run in Churchill Nat Park with my partner. He needed some incentive to be dragged away from his usual Sunday run and I thought he would enjoy seeing the kangaroos at Churchill. There were masses of them everywhere we went and maybe they were out and about later in the day because it was so...
