Amazing fog this morning in Melbourne's bayside. I had a bike ride scheduled and off I went. But not before I had headed out the door and then headed right back in again for warmer clothes. It seemed a bit early in the year for a jacket rather than a cycling jersey with arm warmers, but boy was I glad I went back for the jacket.
Since it was a public holiday, meaning the roads were quiet, I went further than usual: all up an 80 kilometre ride and the longest ride I have done for about 18 months. I was truly spent when I got back home but pleased to have done this.
The fog gave everything an air of unreality, especially combined with almost deserted roads. There were far more cyclists about than usual on a Monday which was nice. The cafe down at Mordialloc was open and I have never seen it open on a weekday before. But by the time I came past it on my way back my feet were so cold that all I wanted to do was get home and into the shower, so no coffee there for me today.
