Another marathon blog

I am a bit slow with getting fingers tapping about the Canberra Bush Capital Marathon on 29 July. A slightly different course this year, with a double out and back off Horse Park Drive, which was a bit tricky to find in the early morning fog.

The course was going to be hilly so I did a deal with myself: allowed to walk the uphills from 25 kilometres onward. Some were pretty steep. And I ended up running some of them despite the permission.

Last time I ran this one I saw quite a few kangaroos on the other side of the nature park fence but this year I saw none. However it was a lovely still day and I loved the chance to be out in the bush. Didn't have much company on this one, and what was strange was that several runners who were with us on the first out and back seemed to have vanished by the second lap. I kept my mind busy trying to do calculations about a projected finish time but I must have been confused: when I got home I related the details to my significant other and he said "You can't possibly have done that."

I had no real goals for this one, especially as I had only decided to run at the last minute because I felt my car needed a workout. I hadn't driven to Canberra before and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the drive is.
