How was your run today?

Jun 18 2019 08:22 PM | Malleegirl in Articles

Travelling to N.T. for a quick visit. Been hard to squeeze in my runs due to hubby wanting to get a few kilometres done :)  Stopped at Bedourie Qld last night and managed a 6.5k run.  Itís a bit annoying for me not having a running training plan I can stick to :( but I guess it is a matter of doing what I can. The trip so far has been spectacular as we have seen camels, a dingo, eagles, brolgas, budgies and a huge range of water birds. The country is very dry but there has been two rainless floods which has seen the birds flourish. Oh and there were ducks too!

Post a Picture of your Dog

Mar 15 2019 09:37 AM | Stej in Articles

The longest run they've done with me is 8k.  Mind you Midnight runs up and back a lot so he probably does a couple of extra ks every time we run.   Whereas Bear can get a bit lazy and stop and wait for us to come back his way!  They just love it, so when I'm doing a long run I take them out for a few ks then drop them home and pretend I'm going out, drive the car up the road and run from there.  As you can see Bear is quite large and there isn't a fence that can keep him in if he decides he wants to get out to join me!  :)

Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) 2014 Race Report

Sep 16 2014 11:56 PM | BarefootBj in Articles

I don’t usually cry during ultras, or any other time for that matter but I cried three times during the Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc in the French alps at the end of August 2014. The race is 168km with almost 10,000m of ups and 10,000m of downs and I have been dreaming about it for the past three years..

Plans for 2014

23 Marathons run in 2013 on minimal training.

(2433km run for the year at an average of 6.66km per day - So the Devil really is in the detail.)

More of the same planned for 2014 if my wretched Achilles allows it!

Holy crap, 23 marathons in a year, very impressive. When will you hit the big 100? I once heard that more people have climbed Everest than have ran 100 marathons....not sure how true that is?  What's your best marathon time or is it all quantity rather than quality?

Makes my 4-5 marathons a year seem quite tame. Currently on 31 so I'll be hitting the big 100 we'll into my sixties....

Keep running (daily) bk

In the past I've always acknowledged the tension (and folly) in trying to improve your 10km/Half M times as well as run decent marathons and ultras.

In 2014 I've decided to throw all caution to the wind and try to bust my 10km back below 39mins, sub 84 HM, PB my marathon (3:08) and knock off an ultra or two; 100k and/or 100mile.

This would include at least 4 marathons/ultras, including an international one.  Would love to run Pyongyang, but they close up after 3 hours .

I'd also love to beat BK in a race (again :Tounge:) but maybe we're getting a bit beyond ourselves...

Djefa, good to see you back in the fold old man, you have been missed while you were exploring Europe....

Keep running ( chasing impossible dreams , well bk) bk

Medical Advice On Coolrunning

Nov 06 2013 09:53 PM | PeteWilko in Articles

Haven't looked   at CR forums  for ages! Man this is a long thread  !
2 years ago went to a Doctor after suspecting torn knee cartilage, was given anti-inflammatories and he didn't even touch knee or get me to move my knee.
Came back 10 days later asking if I could get a scan and I knew Doctor couldn't order am  MRI so got the CT scan then came back again. At my insistence got a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon who then ordered the MRI and confirmed the problem.
My gut feeling plus following advice I read on Forums steered me in right direction.
Surgeon fixed the root of problem but then left me  to fend for myself as that's what they leave you to do.
All manner of advice on shoes  by experts and ended up reading lots of forums and magazines and decided to try zero drop shoes, after surgery I couldn't run the same, my style needed to load the knee a bit less. Shoes are heaps better !
I do okay but I know I am not 21 (49), have done 3 marathons plus a 50 k and heaps of shorter events since my injury.
Long story short I think the forums are invaluable, like finding the right medical person you need to sort out the good from the not so good and think of multiple possibilities including some not profit motivated. Love the forums !

Wingello Trail Classic 25km and 6km

Mar 04 2013 08:15 PM | Long Arms in Articles

A big drawcard for Wingello has been announced today. Steve Dineen, winner of the 2013 Two Bays 28km in record time, will be coming up from Melbourne to race. Dineen's performance at Two Bays was one of the best runs seen in Australian trail running history. The top ten City to Surf performer, Australian rep at the 2011 Ekiden relay and 65min half marathoner is keen to chase victory and hopes that many of Australia's best trail runners will challenge him on the day.

Dineen has yet to decide on whether to race in the 6km or 25km, although form over the past year suggests he would be hard to beat in the 25km. If he races in the Gold Coast half marathon the following weekend then the 6km may be Dineen's best choice.

Kayano 18 - what else is out there?

Sep 20 2012 01:43 PM | M0606 in Articles

Do you have orthotics ?

I wear orthotics, and was recommended kayano 18 from my podiatrist for my feet and gait and got bad shin splints and constant calf problems.
I then changed shoes. I purchased  a pair of Adidas Supernova Glide 4 (neutral shoe) and I have never felt better.

Suncorp Bank Sydney Harbour 10k

May 19 2012 10:14 AM | Wayne Larden in Frontpage

Hi All CR's - I couldn't work out how to start a new event so I've put this here. We have today launched our brand new event, the Suncorp Bank Sydney Harbour 10k. It will be held on Sunday 8 July starting and finishing at The Rocks, Sydney. It is going to be a certified accurate (AIMS) super fast 10k in and around The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Pyrmont and Barangaroo. It is a beautiful course and is perfectly timed four weeks out from city to surf.

We have a tight restriction on entry numbers in year one with only 5,000 available - so I'd get in quickly.

Check out the website at - www.sydneyharbour10k.com.au

In the meantime I'll try and work out how to start a new event.

Many thanks
Wayne
