I know it was a long time you spent together in the heat but please stop acting like a married couple. :)

Hi all,

Do you think I need a map to do this run? I've done six foot four times and think it's pretty straight forward. However I haven't done it in reverse, in the dark, feeling like death. I'd be interested to get the views of those amongst you who have done this run before.

Many thanks

Ridler :)

Nah you'll be fine Ridler. Aim to get back to Cox's for around 5pm if you can and then it's plain sailing. Or at least I thought so last year. I got lost trying to get back up Nellie's Glenn. There's a bit where you cross the creek and there's quite a few large boulders. I spent 5 minutes trying to rock climb my way up the creek instead of just crossing it.

Another sticking point is on the return journey, dont miss the left turn up towards Caves Road crossing. I carried straight on last year and added on a nice 2km out and back. Other than that I think you'll be fine. If in doubt, follow me... it's not like I ever get lost :)

There's a bit where you veer left about 5kms after you come up from Jenolan I think... wherever it is, I missed it last year and carried straight on and ended up at the bottom end of Caves Road. It's the only reason Buzz beat me!

There are rewards for the weak after all - my early departure from Caboolture 48 means I can do 12 foot! woohoo! Would have been a shame to miss it, although wont have my favourite 12ft cohort ERB to accompany me - well that's unless she rises from the post 48 grave by then.

I will be there for the 7am start, as Innes points out, it is tradition and I would lose the "get to the river by sun down" incentive if I started early with Dutchie and TP. (nice to see you girls are fronting up, you are going to love it)

Thanks for the info Dan and Spud I think. I'm planning on getting back to the river by 5.00 as you said.

How about I just take a 45km long ball of string, unwind on the way out rewind on the way back. That should do it.

Can't wait to get out there and get frost bite with the rest of you.

Ridler :)

Very kind of you to say MQ - I think there is a very big chance that my brain is writing cheques my body can't cash.  I guess the moment of truth will come some time on Saturday night - late Saturday night.

I guess 90km in the mountains will be a good way to kick off the training. :)

The kit is ready (Dan/Spud I've got a map), the weather looks good (although a touch cold). I'm dragging Too Keen down with me (although he hasn't decided how many feet he will do). Pommie Jo is looking after us (I'm a lucky boy). Not much to do now, roll on 7am.

On a serious note (I know, mental that I can actually be serious), will anyone have someone going to Jenolan to meet them? Rod, are you coming to Explorers Tree first and then driving round? Ridler, is your lovely lady going to meet you at Jenolan? I'm keen to drop a few bottles of Powerade with someone who might be so I can get the refuel there and not mess about at the shop.

Dan, Dan, Dan, blasphemy. The hot chips and coke are a must for the climb back out of the Caves.  :D

Rug up well everyone - had a chilly night in the upper mountains last night and a white frost on the ground this morning.

Have fun out there and if you need anything, just yell.

I'll have the car (silver Forester) parked somewhere near Pluvi, or close by along the ridge. Any CR passing it is more than welcome to help themselves from the esky (or clothes basket as the weather may render an esky useless). I will place the esky behind the car. B2orB1 has already done some shopping and has filled it with soft drink, cookies, lollies, etc. I'll also be at the tree for the 7am start if people want to give me their 'special' items to ferry around.

I'll leave the car out there as long as I can for those on the return run before driving around to the finish.

The likleyhood of pizza at the Explorers Tree in the evening is also pretty high.

CU all tomorrow.

I will be at the tree.  Check with Martin what he wants to do with halfway.  Our plan was for me to drive Martin's car out, then pass him the key when we crossed paths.

It does present a problem if we dont have someone minding the car.  If anyone has a 'spectator' that wants a day out at the caves to mind the car as runners go thru, it would make it pretty easy for drop bags.  They could drive out with me, then hang out at the caves as runners come in.  Without being too presumptous, I would think Martin would be 'sweeping' the field and the spectator could get a lift back with him.

That is not at all presumptuous Rod and I was planning on giving you my spare key just in case the mid run meet did not happen. if anyone wants to baby sit the car until I get there then thats fine with me. there will be three spare seats on the way back if anyone needs a ride

Thanks Rod, but looks like B1orB2 is the saviour to our precious needs :D I'll just dump a few bottles of Powerade if that's OK with you B1orB2... maybe a little food, but it will literally be a carrier bag and not much else to save carrying everything for the first 45kms...

Awesome, looks like a good crowd out tomorrow. We had 27 last year, wonder if we'll beat that this year?

It looks like you have solved the problem, but if not feel free to drop some fuel with the boss, just let us know Saturday morning. She will be at the Caves road crossing too (in and out) I think.

You guys are amazing.  Thanks.  I'm doing the 6am start for obvious reasons.  I might drop a bag behind the shelter at explorers tree if thats ok? Not sure what I'm taking yet so if there isn't one there don't worry.

Bit of drama today.  Justdidit's mate (another Kieron) had a fall and broke his lower leg pretty badly.  000 call made and a helicopter came in to get him out.  Detail is hazy as I was running the other way and picking up bits from others.

It happened at the creek crossing just before Megalong Road (approx 7.5km).  There is a new bridge installed over the creek sitting 2 feet off the ground (approach hasnt been graded to bridge level).  It appears he has approached the bridge and slipped/fallen on soft, muddy ground at the approach.  Other runners come up to him after the event and found him in a fair bit of trouble, with the lower leg skewiff and prone on the ground.

Sounds like a freak accident.  I checked out the bridge on the way thru (a mighty piece of engineering) and couldnt quite work it out.  Hoping all is well.

Oh no - that sounds pretty awful to be helicoptered out. Really sorry to hear there were such dramas out there today.  Hope the injured runner is in good hands now.

Well done Spud - another successful 12ft  :D

I heard from Trailpuddin about lunch time - she had made Jenolan and all was good.  Hopefully all is still good

Just home from a rather chilly Katoomba. Ran with B2orB1 most of the way, finished together. Out in 5:30, back in 7:05 with 15 min at Caves House giving a finish of 12:50. Was hoping to be a little quicker than this but that is one tough return leg. Pretty happy just to have made it. Thanks to B1orB2 for wonderful support and the ride up. Congrats to all who ran. Full report later for 'tis time to lay my weary head on my pillow.

Just home and showered to get ready for C2S tomorrow.

13:48 for me to equal my PB from 2007. Very happy with this considering I am not in the same shape as I was back then and Graham Wye and I took a 10 minute detour after crossing Cox's River.

Another great Fatass Run, except for Keiran who got a helicopter ride.  I spoke to him via phone in Westmead hospital and he sounded in good spirits but with broken and dislocated ankle.  Probably to be pinned and plated Sunday.  Thanks to those who rendered assistance.  He asked the doctor would he be able ot run again, which is the first good sign, and the doctor replied in the affirmative.
