hay everyone i have been running for a nearly five months now and have had so many little problems but i think i have my first real problem.I prob only run 30 km a week so not alot of km and i ran my first race last week only 5 k because of a foot problem after the race my feet were in a bit of pain but it didnt set in until after the race.the next day pain was just about all gone but i did not run.the next day i did run but only for 5 k and the pain returned so i had another few days off.yesterday i felt great so i thought id go for a 10 km run and i had no pain anywhere and ran at 4min 15 sec pace and loved every step however when stoped the pain set in on my left foot and today i can barely walk on it. the pain is diretly in the middle of my foot on top and is sore like a bruse to touch and if i put my forefoot on the ground and press my toes down the pain can be felt on top of my foot.what kind of specialist should i see and any guesses to what the injury might be

This might sound silly chrizz, but I've had a similar pain a few times. The cause? My laces were too tight and were bruising the tops of my feet. When you run your feet expand a bit so while the laces might seem fine when you start off, once you've been running a bit they will be tight. Try loosening them. While they are sore, relace your shoes but skip the holes which pull the laces over where the pain is. One think I found which worked well for me was elastic laces-they just expand as my foot does.
Not saying this is your problem-but it's an easy one to check!

Hi Chrizz,
Is this only happening on 1 foot and not both?
Ive had a similar injury before - however mine was caused by getting into FiveFinger/barefoot running without easing into the method. Previous to this picking up this method i hadnt run for over 10 years, then all of a sudden i was pounding the pavement in a different form (forefoot strike and launch) without any or much cushioning for 6k stretches.... within 2 weeks the top of my foot was in a lot of pain, it wasnt all over but a specific point, and it hurt even more to press on ... similar to a killer bruise but without the physical colouration. Now my brother in law whos a physio put it down to a cracked plate (cos apparently the top of your foot consists of a number of plates.. (i think thats what he said)) and i had to ease off it and would eventually disappear. He was right, i did continue to run but i started to use a midfoot strike and more of a lift of my foot then a launch (off the forefoot), eventually (about 2 weeks) it disappeared, 3 months on and i havent had it again.
I hope that helps.

yea just the left foot and i think it may be what you have described.its been 3 days since i ran last and it still is sore .was going to enter my first 10 km on friday thats not on the cards now
Yeah mate best to sit out the 10km. However if you REALLY wanted to do it im sure you could. Cos if its the same foot pain as mine, the first few hundred meters of running the foot would still be painful, but once it got warmed up i didnt quite feel it as much and could finish my runs ... but the post run pain was insane! It'll put you on your ass for a good couple of days no doubt.
Ease off your runs a little, give yourself the needed break and it'll be gone before you know it.... again if its the same issue i had.

haha yep sounds exactly the same i was considering just not running till friday and doing swimming and cycling insted and then going for it on the day because i know it wont hurt during the race but after!!
ouch
I would recommend seeing a physiotherapist or podiatrist for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Some of the potential causes of the symptoms you describe may include: tibialis anterior tendonitis, sprained foot, tarsal coalition.
Hope that helps and good luck,

I has something similar this year. i relaced my shoes so the laced didnt press on or around the area at all and it got better.
Having said that- see a professional and get a proper diagnosis.
