That was a great race, loved it. Very technical first half which isn't my strong point, found it hard going through the trenches in particular. I'm sure there was a great view off to the right but barely lifted my gaze off the track all race in fear of hitting something.Ran in my DS racers which handled the course pretty well although I just took my newly acquired x-talons for a run along kalkari track and they feel great, nice and light and great grip. There was a good bunch of guys up front which helped with the quick times, the staggered start made things interesting, wasn't completely sure of the places for a while. Will be looking out for this race next year.

Tucks the new king of trails! First W2B and now this. Good margin over Terence too. Great running mate!

Really depends on the trail.  Over similar timespan and with a similar taper, I'd be looking at a 4.25 road pace for flat conditions and similar cool weather, and I was 5.43 pace yesterday, so that would be a 1.3 conversion factor for the Coast Track route, making the 30.1km the same as 39km on the road over the same 2.55 for me.
Yep, agree with NickW - the trail makes a big difference.  I have done W2B a few times (35km's I think), and CC was the same time for 29kms.  Both are reasonable proxies for marathon finish time, but again agree with NickW - probably a bit short of full marathon, around 40km split.
ps.  3.09 yesterday - had a great time out there.  finish location at bundeena rsl was perfect.

With the possibility of this race being postponed by bad weather each time it is run, this fact may slightly hamper this event growing it's popularity fast. People this year may have had their plans changed in both June and September, higher DNS with a week before Sydney marathon.

Agreed. Interested in it because we need to know what works in case it happens to 6FT. Considering that it sold out quickly initially one would think that 1st date would have had normal DNS, so maybe better scheduling and a 'recommitment' from everyone would have worked better....i.e. make all entries null and void and let them enter again...free for those already in and then resell those that don't re-enter.

Colin, interested in a comparison to six foot. I think there was only 5 DNF in coastal and that seems remarkably small as a percentage.
Similar, but comparison not valid because cut off times may have different difficulties

I hear a rumour that maxadventure want to push for the race to happen each Sept, which from my perspective is great as the likelihood of a cancellation is so much less. The weds meeting to confirm "go or no go" was really a formality and there was never a real doubt it wouldn't proceed.

I believe the DNS rate last year was quite small/acceptable so suspect the increase in DNS this year was due to the date change. Maybe people couldn't be arsed to re-sell their entry or don't read coolrunning etc.

Thank Billies Bushies for that - I had many find memories of finishing the RNP Ultra there, that it was the only option considered for the finish.

Loved the race, I've wanted to do the whole route for some time rather than just sections. Big thanks for the fantastic organisation. Despite the gorgeous scenery I rarely raised my eyes from the back of Tucks feet until we hit Marley where he decided he'd hung around too long and stretched away.
Not exaggerating when I say that despite a few hours spinning on the bike yesterday and a warm down after the race, I can hardly walk today without people laughing and pointing - quads are in ruins!!

Great quality t-shirts.

However, I just noticed that our shirts have the orginal June date on the shirt.

I know, I know they would of been printed for the orginal date.

BTW, my legs are still recovering.

Same here - the event took a huge hit on me.  Still stuglging to get back into decent running.  The 30km run to work planned for tomorrow is still looking dicey.

yep, same. I thought I was suffering badly because I went to see Above and Beyond at the Hordern after the race, but it seems it's just a brutal (but beautiful) run...... be interesting to see how far I get with hills tonight.
