Hey guys I'm sorry if this has been covered above (I did do a decent scan though) but what time does it start/ finish? I've got a pretty full weekend but would like to come by at some point to show support and maybe next year have a go. Good Luck to everyone involved.

Have set the alarm for sparrows, but will probably just help out where I can and try and fit the CR 5k challenge in and a few extra laps. Have been testing the toe out all week, which in hindsight I should have rested. It starts to give me a bit of grief from about 10-15k, so don't think there is much hope of trying to hang in there for a minimum of 6hrs.:)

Good luck everyone for tomorrow, see you out on the track.
Just heard Mr Maggot is coming off a 3:05 Marathon from last weekend, but knowing him that will be just a warmup for tomorrow. :Praying:

Just been down to see if I could lend a hand. Yumigo well organised, all sorted. The boys and girls look as if they are having lots of fun. All looking very strong at 3 hours. Field of 17 runners, 6 staying for 12 hours.

Really good to meet some more CRs, including newies and ledgends (Maggot!)

Will go down again later to ...?! (be there)

Six hours complete!

Some results, provisional only, and just from those that I had a chance to chat to at the end:

Brett (Treason) 65 km
Colin (Lonerunner) 61
Adrian 63
Foreststump  60ish
Em00 - not sure of distance, but very good!
MummaTreason finished 6hrs and still alive, despite a hacking cold.

Maggot was at 69km and continuing.
All 12 hour runners still looking good!

Well done to all the participants today.  I kept thinking about you as my 3hr run was getting tiring, 6hrs still seems crazy, 12hrs just sounds nuts.  Great work!!!

1 hour to go and Maggot is still going round and a-round!

Did you take a full 3 hours lock73, or almost three hours?

Today I was out for just over 3hrs, but this wasn't going around the SA Trail Championship course.

Tomorrow I'll be up the top of Greenhill road running that 10km loop I mentioned over on the other thread.

I bet the 12 hour runners are feeling relieved right now! After I finished I thought mmmm 12 hour sounds good for next year.. although I must say after finishing the 6, I've been home and had a long hot bath and a nap, woke up and though about the fact that the 12 hour runners were still running... and was glad I wasn't!!
A HUGE thanks to Yumigo!!! and everyone else involved in getting the event together, volunteers, supporters and all competitors. It was great to meet some CRs today and put faces to names. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning  :Praying:
Well done to everyone!

I am in complete awe of everyone who ran the full 12 hours today. I was wrecked after 6 hours and couldn't have imagined running another 6 metres let alone another 6 hours.
Very happy with my distance today, almost 2km's more than last year.
Congrats to Yumigo for another great event, well organised and fantastically catered. Thanks to all the volunteers as well.
Arfadent/Graham
PS a special mention to my diminuative running mate Ramone who knocked off 101.2kms (previous max distance 60km if I remember rightly) with 20 minutes to spare. Well done Ramone.

:Praying: Well done EVERYBODY!!!!! What a great effort. Yah Kym. 100+!!!! Yes I am still in cheer squad mode. (Turns out I have found my talent.) Special mention to Chilli who did a marathon score keeping. No doubt others did as well. Sorry about the toe. Hope it doesn't cause you trouble for long. Thanks Yumigo. I bow down to all you legends.

Well done on your PB Afradent! If you asked most of the 12 hours runners how they felt at 6 hours they would have been wrecked too. My worst period by a long way was 6-8 hours. Just remember that when you sign up for 6 hours your mind is wired to only run 6 hours, whereas when you sign up for 12 hours your mind is wired to run 12 hours. Any of the 6 hours guys would have made it through 12 hours.

I have to put in a big thank you to Ramone for dragging me along for about 3 key laps over a 3 hour period later in the race, because without those laps I wouldn't have cracked the 100k. I got just close enough that I could smell the 100k and all of a sudden I felt no pain...well less than before anyway  :Praying:

As others have said, thank you Yumigo for putting on a great event...I have now completed my longest ever run.

As for Maggot's effort...WOW...it was awesome to watch someone of his caliber! What a machine! Another brilliant effort was Karl, who had never run further than a half marathon and managed to clock up 54km in the 6 hour!

Time to rest my sore body, and even more sore Achilles!

Wida

Hello, thanks to everyone for their kind words. Yes, I had a good day but boy! , I'm paying for it now. I could hardly walk to the computer, never been so stiff. I had been thinking of doing 100km one day, but I didn't think it would be today. The milestone was so big I just couldn't drag myself around the course one more time. I was well satisfied.
Thanks go to all the runners who were so generous with their encourgement and who listened to me chatting away. Some were in another league as they lapped me regularly (Maggot, Sportsman and others). Thank you to Yumigo, his wife, Chilliman , Paul, David and everybody who helped out and supported as all day. Arfadent, who ran 6hrs then came back later to count laps, not to mention Vivianne who was there all day. Too tired to write more......

Congratulation to all runners to have finished both 6 and 12hrs. You guys are nuts :Praying:. We went pass the uni loop late afternoon and spotted the running Ramone (only one I know from Sunday club run)- still going strong after 8hrs (ONLY 4hrs to go). Well done Ramone 101! and all that did the run yesterday.

:Praying:  :) Told you that you could do it Kym. Well done!!!
Thank you Ben for yet again putting on a great race. It was fantastic running with all of you much faster people. Although I must say from about 3 hours on it went pretty quiet. I was sorely disappointed that I could not continue on for the 12 hour. Next year I will be retired and so hopefully not exposed to so many kid germs.
Once again thanks and well done.

Very impressive running from Maggot. He has really broken into the elite of Australian Ultra Running with that performance. Like Justin, I want to see him fulfill his potential in the 24 hour event. Another good performance from Sportsman running a PB just a few weeks after the 24 hour world champs. When I grow up I want to be like him. :Praying:

I wish I had walked around the loop with you after your 101km. If we had kept walking (a good loosen up for you) maybe there would be another km or two on your total. Sorry. Next time!!

Congratulations to everyone who ran ... watching you guys run was truly inspiring.

On the way to Pirates in PensPants we (my whole family) drove past the event. At least they have now seen what real people do. Maybe one day they will warm to the idea that one day I would like to ... (shhh ... give it a try?)

Looking forward to Yumingo posting the final results but thought I would add my congratulations to all who participated in yesterday's event - not just the runners but all of you who were out there counting or supporting. I remember Sarah B telling me how it was helping at the ten day New York event that first got her interested in long distance events - she got caught up in the little community that came together around the group of people testing and pushing themselves to new places. I certainly had that sense yesterday for the couple of times during the day that I was able to be there. It was also great to just have some time to catch up with people I rarely have a chance to have an extended chat - the likes of Polar Bear and Chilliman (they are always too far in front!) who were there all day supporting runners and others like Backpacker and Sunny who turned up for a while. But more than that, it was just so inspirational to be there watching all of you take on yourselves. Amazing stuff. Part of me wished I was out there running again but a big part of me knew I just wasn't in the right head space. And I reckon the more I watched yesterday, the head has got a lot to do with how far you get on the day.

A few comments about some of the people I know who were out there yesterday...

Maggot - when Yumingo first mooted the idea of a 6/12 hour event I was pushing for trying to find a location that was in the public eye so the people of Adelaide could see what ultra running was all about. My only regret for yesterday was  that more people didn't get to see or know about your performance here in Adelaide. It was really something. Congrats and thanks for coming back to Adelaide - we hope that you keep on coming back and inspiring us with your efforts.

Wida and Zacman - the two big guys... I got a text from Zacman last night to say he had clocked 109kms. Wida, what was your final distance? Watching you guys mid afternoon one couldn't but be impressed by the extra load you carry when compared to the smaller and lighter runners. That you both cracked the ton is fantastic. I was a bit worried for you Wida when I saw you mid afternoon but it sounds like you worked your way out of a trough or too. Great effort.

To the gals - Sarah, Em and MummaTreason - You all seemed to be doing it so easily. Was great to see a pro at work Sarah. Em - I think you could easily step up to 12 hours next year. And MammaT - you are an inspiration in the way you approach and enjoy these events. I also get alot of fun watching your interaction with PappaT as he tries his best to support you...

Treason - great run yesterday especially as it was only your second time out since an injury ridden North Face. Amazing!

Wida mentioned Karl's effort in clocking 54km having never run more than a half - reckon Adrian is not far off that - I think his 30km training run a couple of weeks ago with Zacman was his previous longest distance ! Wow!

To Lonerunner and Arfadent - both back this year, both recently back from OS and both recently married... (was I right in stating that over a third of the field had married within the last six months???) and you still both put in improved performances from last year. Well done!

I have saved the best to last - two performaces for mine blew me away from two mates: Stan the man started late at 8.00am as he had just come off a night shift. He then proceeded to knock off 63.5kms! What would he have done with a bit of sleep??? Stan - it was an honour to be there when you finished. Magnificent effort!

And to Ramone - what can you say? The legend continues to grow! I would hate to see what you could do if you ever trained! I know just how pleased you must be to have cracked the ton and to have done it with minutes to spare. I couldn't be there at the end but rang Yumongo with 15 minutes before the finish and got to speak with the man himself just after he had finished. He said he had decided to call it quits as soon as he reached the 100km mark because he felt that if he did any more he might be perceived as showing off! You lark, Kym. What a champion!!

Well done Yumingo and Wendy! You have done yourselves proud!

Thanks Terry. Yeah I didn't think I was going to make it to the ton but with about 30 min to go I could see that it was possible. I think my final distance was 101.13 km.

This may be a super dumb question, but did people actually run for 6 and 12 hrs ? That is just unbelievable. I am still trying to work out if this is a hoax ???

Congratulations all, some brilliant efforts out there on the weekend, and not just from the runners, fantastic effort Yumigo and SA, you pulled it off without a hitch. :)

Maggot, what a machine, looked like he was doing it easy all day.

This shot sums it all up at the 132k mark with 10mins to go:

I'll upload some more and higher res versions once I get back to Melb, but in the meantime here are a few to enjoy from Saturday.

Well done again to everybody, especially those entering new territory and distances for the first time.
Thanks too to Cakeboy for the company on our little token 5k effort for the day. :Praying:

.... I didn't think I was going to make it to the ton but with about 30 min to go I could see that it was possible.

Gutsy effort Wida, up until that last half an hour or so it looked like you were doing it tough and we thought  you wouldn't make the 100, but then you stated to pull the 5min k's out, no idea where from, magic to watch.

You can see by these 2 shots you'd clocked up an 11:11 lap (2.2k) just before the 100.

To the gals - Sarah, Em and MummaTreason - You all seemed to be doing it so easily. Was great to see a pro at work Sarah. Em - I think you could easily step up to 12 hours next year.
Cheers Terry, I definitely will be and can't wait!!!!!!!! Is it 2011 yet? Is it? Is it?
I think these things could be addictive... :Praying:
Thanks a bunch Terry & many others who didn't run on the day but came out to support. Sunny1 it was great to chat to you again.
Thanks for the photos Chilliman.
Well done to the 12 hour runners for their fantastic efforts, if I didn't live so far south I would've come bank to see you finish. I felt a little guilty going home to my hot bath and warm fire... just a little guilty...
:)

Thanks Chilliman. The stupid thing is that was probably my fastest lap of the whole day! I really wish I could understand how the mind works when it comes to running ultras. I think it just shows that I'm a rather lazy ultra runner unless I'm confident of hitting a big goal. I really find it hard to describe how you can go from feeling absolutely wrecked to running like you're on a 5k run with your mates...a truly bizarre sensation.

It was tough on Saturday but today it feels great.
I'm looking forward to run or help next year.

This may be a super dumb question, but did people actually run for 6 and 12 hrs ? That is just unbelievable. I am still trying to work out if this is a hoax ???
People like Maggot and Sportsman do but for us mere mortals there's a bit of walking thrown in here and there. Trust me though in saying that it's hard to describe how difficult it is just to maintain a walk at times. It's definitely no hoax that's for sure. And this is only the short stuff...there's also 24 hour, 48 hour and even 6 day races if you're really keen  :Praying:

Looking at the results on the AURA website it looks like there were a few 6 hour guys that would have done very little walking throughout the day. Hopefully the results will be updated with everyones surname in due course.

Maggot... looked like he was doing it easy all day.

Back in Melbourne after a very successful trip across to Adelaide.

A huge thanks to my good mate Paul (CR: Pola Bear) & Seal who hosted me and looked after my every whim throughout the event.
Races of this length aren't all plain sailing for the entire time: you have good patches and... well, not so good patches. Without the kind of support from experienced and committed people like Paul & Chilliman, it is really difficult to minimise the damage in terms of time when things are getting rough. Paul was on hand every single lap to make sure I was fuelled up and keeping the legs ticking over.

I won't mince my words: 133.7kms - this was a massive PB for me ~ I was able to run 122kms in 12 hours twice in the early part of this year, and the cooler weather this time of year in Adelaide combined with a perfect track was all looking positive for something in the mid 120s. The loop distance of exactly 2.2kms was actually very handy for me at my target race pace: it meant that 5 laps per hour was exactly 11kms. So I planned to pace at 11kms per hour, which meant going through half way in 66kms. Like most runners, I found the early still conditions made for good progress and I was able to hit my 6 hour target a little ahead, 68kms I think. It is always nice to have a bit of a buffer, as things can (and often do) turn sour in a race such as this.

Once the 6 hour runners were able to stop, part of me (the weak part :Praying: ) was filled with envy as I knew the pain that lay in wait for the remaining hardy souls. And almost on cue, there was a brief shower of rain as if to emphasise the task ahead. This next 3 hours were probably the hardest as I struggled with energy levels. I have never been able to handle fizzy Coke, but I suspect I may have exhausted Yumigo's supplies, and Paul kept me going with Lindt ginger chocolate, Tiny Teddies and gels, while Chilliman proved his barrista skills with powerful shots of hot coffee. No sleeps for me this time, Chilli!

I was really impressed with the grit and determination of the other runners. All of us were still circulating and moving forward, each with a kind and motivating word. Sometimes we'd be so stuffed, just a half wave or just a meeting of eyes with a mutual look of understanding that can only be communicated between two people who have been running since pre-dawn and we were now heading towards late afternoon with another 2 hours to go.

But the real business end of the race came when I hit the 100km mark, and after some bodgey arithmetic, I mentally prepared myself for targeting 130kms. Mental preparation is one thing... but what about the quads? I had been having a few tight spots and various niggles, but these kind of go with the territory and were no cause for alarm. But my left quad was starting to bonk up really high, I think the hip flexor. Chilliman to the rescue! And yes, there is a photo around somewhere that could be rather incriminating if it were to fall into the wrong hands :)  he he.

Two hours to go and Paul got me on pace again. Once I ran past the 130 km mark, I was overcome with emotion as I knew I was going to run past 132kms. This was my dream goal for the race, as it represents 11kms per hour for 12 hours. Those last 2 or 3 laps were amazing and effortless: a rollercoaster of emotions and pride, relief knowing that I could soon stop, or maybe it was just all the sugar in the system. I am sure Wida experienced similar when he found something deep within to lift his pace to achieve 100kms. These are what I call zen moments ~ the hardship and self-questioning, the pain that must be endured to then make the pleasure all the more sweeter. Choking back a few tears is allowed in these events, perhaps that's why Yumigo planned a 6pm finish! But alone in the night, safe around the corner, I heard the horn blow signifying the 12 hours was up and I had a moment of clarity. I had achieved something even on the start line I doubted I could do. This is the beauty of ultra running ~ we can all set targets and goals, execute a plan, and sometimes, just sometimes, we have a day out.

Ron ~ yet another outstanding race. In fact, it seems every time Sportsman laces up his shoes, he's smashing another record or PB.
Kym ~ a pleasure to share the park with you mate. No matter what happens, you can always have that 101kms. 100miles is as good as in the bag!
Wida ~ I dunno where you found that pace from to get the 100, but a gutsy effort from the big guy with a big ticker.
Zacman ~ how many ultras did you say you've done? 109kms on debut is amazing. Massive potential. You showed great patience and held back early when it is really easy to be swept away with the 6 hour runners.
Sarah ~ it was not until after the event that I found out we had been running with, IMO, one of the best athletes currently running in Australia. It is rare to see such a focussed athlete, and her pedigree over 6 day events is rather humbling. Best wishes for her and Phibes' upcoming race.

And to the main man: Yumigo. Fantastic event ~ you had obviously put alot of time and effort into organising this, and it showed. The venue, the clock, the marquee, the oranguatans :) ... thankyou. Yet another good reason to visit Adelaide again.

Congratulations to everyone who ran on Saturday - you all ran impressive distances. I couldn't believe how strong everyone was looking when I dropped by at the five hour point. I am completely inspired and I will definitely see you out there next year (and will take more care running on muddy tracks the week before the event!).

Firstly I would like to thank Yumigo and to all of the support crew that made the Adelaide 6 & 12 hour such a fantastic event :)  I can't wait until 2011, It was really humbling to be running along with so many dedicated and talented runners :Praying: . I would like to send a big thanks to Ron for the motivating me to push hard in last 15 or so minutes of the 6hrs event . Last but not least, congratulations to everyone who ran on Sat  :) so many great efforts Mal, Kym,  just to name a few, it was just so much fun to be around people with the same crazy passion for running and enjoying every minute of it, (even when it is hurting)  and can't wait to be crossing paths again soon

Thanks Chilliman for those great photos. I don't want to forget what happened that day.
Maggotman, I've never witnessed such a display of relentless speed. I've read a lot about the friendship and cameraderie between ultra runners and on saturday I experienced some of it, and I liked it. Thanks for your kind words about my shuffling style. It did mean something coming from an athlete of your calibre.  Would I be correct to suggest that we all experience the same pain and doubts in such a race , just some are faster and some are slower?

Awesome run and race report, Mal! That is a truly World class effort and is greatly deserved for the steady, hard, progressive work you have done over the last few years. Like Justin I think you need to re-visit 24h racing. You should be able to run a long way over 200K based on that run.

congrats also to Sportsman for an amazing record run so soon after World 24h.

cheers
