Good luck everyone for tomorrow, see you out on the track.
Just heard Mr Maggot is coming off a 3:05 Marathon from last weekend, but knowing him that will be just a warmup for tomorrow.

Some results, provisional only, and just from those that I had a chance to chat to at the end:
Brett (Treason) 65 km
Colin (Lonerunner) 61
Adrian 63
Foreststump 60ish
Em00 - not sure of distance, but very good!
MummaTreason finished 6hrs and still alive, despite a hacking cold.
Maggot was at 69km and continuing.
All 12 hour runners still looking good!

Well done to all the participants today. I kept thinking about you as my 3hr run was getting tiring, 6hrs still seems crazy, 12hrs just sounds nuts. Great work!!!

Very happy with my distance today, almost 2km's more than last year.
Congrats to Yumigo for another great event, well organised and fantastically catered. Thanks to all the volunteers as well.
Arfadent/Graham
PS a special mention to my diminuative running mate Ramone who knocked off 101.2kms (previous max distance 60km if I remember rightly) with 20 minutes to spare. Well done Ramone.

I have to put in a big thank you to Ramone for dragging me along for about 3 key laps over a 3 hour period later in the race, because without those laps I wouldn't have cracked the 100k. I got just close enough that I could smell the 100k and all of a sudden I felt no pain...well less than before anyway
As others have said, thank you Yumigo for putting on a great event...I have now completed my longest ever run.
As for Maggot's effort...WOW...it was awesome to watch someone of his caliber! What a machine! Another brilliant effort was Karl, who had never run further than a half marathon and managed to clock up 54km in the 6 hour!
Time to rest my sore body, and even more sore Achilles!

Thanks go to all the runners who were so generous with their encourgement and who listened to me chatting away. Some were in another league as they lapped me regularly (Maggot, Sportsman and others). Thank you to Yumigo, his wife, Chilliman , Paul, David and everybody who helped out and supported as all day. Arfadent, who ran 6hrs then came back later to count laps, not to mention Vivianne who was there all day. Too tired to write more......

Thank you Ben for yet again putting on a great race. It was fantastic running with all of you much faster people. Although I must say from about 3 hours on it went pretty quiet. I was sorely disappointed that I could not continue on for the 12 hour. Next year I will be retired and so hopefully not exposed to so many kid germs.
Once again thanks and well done.

I wish I had walked around the loop with you after your 101km. If we had kept walking (a good loosen up for you) maybe there would be another km or two on your total. Sorry. Next time!!
Congratulations to everyone who ran ... watching you guys run was truly inspiring.
On the way to Pirates in PensPants we (my whole family) drove past the event. At least they have now seen what real people do. Maybe one day they will warm to the idea that one day I would like to ... (shhh ... give it a try?)

A few comments about some of the people I know who were out there yesterday...
Maggot - when Yumingo first mooted the idea of a 6/12 hour event I was pushing for trying to find a location that was in the public eye so the people of Adelaide could see what ultra running was all about. My only regret for yesterday was that more people didn't get to see or know about your performance here in Adelaide. It was really something. Congrats and thanks for coming back to Adelaide - we hope that you keep on coming back and inspiring us with your efforts.
Wida and Zacman - the two big guys... I got a text from Zacman last night to say he had clocked 109kms. Wida, what was your final distance? Watching you guys mid afternoon one couldn't but be impressed by the extra load you carry when compared to the smaller and lighter runners. That you both cracked the ton is fantastic. I was a bit worried for you Wida when I saw you mid afternoon but it sounds like you worked your way out of a trough or too. Great effort.
To the gals - Sarah, Em and MummaTreason - You all seemed to be doing it so easily. Was great to see a pro at work Sarah. Em - I think you could easily step up to 12 hours next year. And MammaT - you are an inspiration in the way you approach and enjoy these events. I also get alot of fun watching your interaction with PappaT as he tries his best to support you...
Treason - great run yesterday especially as it was only your second time out since an injury ridden North Face. Amazing!
Wida mentioned Karl's effort in clocking 54km having never run more than a half - reckon Adrian is not far off that - I think his 30km training run a couple of weeks ago with Zacman was his previous longest distance ! Wow!
To Lonerunner and Arfadent - both back this year, both recently back from OS and both recently married... (was I right in stating that over a third of the field had married within the last six months???) and you still both put in improved performances from last year. Well done!
I have saved the best to last - two performaces for mine blew me away from two mates: Stan the man started late at 8.00am as he had just come off a night shift. He then proceeded to knock off 63.5kms! What would he have done with a bit of sleep??? Stan - it was an honour to be there when you finished. Magnificent effort!
And to Ramone - what can you say? The legend continues to grow! I would hate to see what you could do if you ever trained! I know just how pleased you must be to have cracked the ton and to have done it with minutes to spare. I couldn't be there at the end but rang Yumongo with 15 minutes before the finish and got to speak with the man himself just after he had finished. He said he had decided to call it quits as soon as he reached the 100km mark because he felt that if he did any more he might be perceived as showing off! You lark, Kym. What a champion!!
Well done Yumingo and Wendy! You have done yourselves proud!

Maggot, what a machine, looked like he was doing it easy all day.
This shot sums it all up at the 132k mark with 10mins to go:

I'll upload some more and higher res versions once I get back to Melb, but in the meantime here are a few to enjoy from Saturday.
Well done again to everybody, especially those entering new territory and distances for the first time.
Thanks too to Cakeboy for the company on our little token 5k effort for the day.

Gutsy effort Wida, up until that last half an hour or so it looked like you were doing it tough and we thought you wouldn't make the 100, but then you stated to pull the 5min k's out, no idea where from, magic to watch.
You can see by these 2 shots you'd clocked up an 11:11 lap (2.2k) just before the 100.

Thanks for the photos Chilliman.
Well done to the 12 hour runners for their fantastic efforts, if I didn't live so far south I would've come bank to see you finish. I felt a little guilty going home to my hot bath and warm fire... just a little guilty...

Maggot... looked like he was doing it easy all day.
Back in Melbourne after a very successful trip across to Adelaide.
A huge thanks to my good mate Paul (CR: Pola Bear) & Seal who hosted me and looked after my every whim throughout the event.
Races of this length aren't all plain sailing for the entire time: you have good patches and... well, not so good patches. Without the kind of support from experienced and committed people like Paul & Chilliman, it is really difficult to minimise the damage in terms of time when things are getting rough. Paul was on hand every single lap to make sure I was fuelled up and keeping the legs ticking over.
I won't mince my words: 133.7kms - this was a massive PB for me ~ I was able to run 122kms in 12 hours twice in the early part of this year, and the cooler weather this time of year in Adelaide combined with a perfect track was all looking positive for something in the mid 120s. The loop distance of exactly 2.2kms was actually very handy for me at my target race pace: it meant that 5 laps per hour was exactly 11kms. So I planned to pace at 11kms per hour, which meant going through half way in 66kms. Like most runners, I found the early still conditions made for good progress and I was able to hit my 6 hour target a little ahead, 68kms I think. It is always nice to have a bit of a buffer, as things can (and often do) turn sour in a race such as this.
Once the 6 hour runners were able to stop, part of me (the weak part
I was really impressed with the grit and determination of the other runners. All of us were still circulating and moving forward, each with a kind and motivating word. Sometimes we'd be so stuffed, just a half wave or just a meeting of eyes with a mutual look of understanding that can only be communicated between two people who have been running since pre-dawn and we were now heading towards late afternoon with another 2 hours to go.
But the real business end of the race came when I hit the 100km mark, and after some bodgey arithmetic, I mentally prepared myself for targeting 130kms. Mental preparation is one thing... but what about the quads? I had been having a few tight spots and various niggles, but these kind of go with the territory and were no cause for alarm. But my left quad was starting to bonk up really high, I think the hip flexor. Chilliman to the rescue! And yes, there is a photo around somewhere that could be rather incriminating if it were to fall into the wrong hands
Two hours to go and Paul got me on pace again. Once I ran past the 130 km mark, I was overcome with emotion as I knew I was going to run past 132kms. This was my dream goal for the race, as it represents 11kms per hour for 12 hours. Those last 2 or 3 laps were amazing and effortless: a rollercoaster of emotions and pride, relief knowing that I could soon stop, or maybe it was just all the sugar in the system. I am sure Wida experienced similar when he found something deep within to lift his pace to achieve 100kms. These are what I call zen moments ~ the hardship and self-questioning, the pain that must be endured to then make the pleasure all the more sweeter. Choking back a few tears is allowed in these events, perhaps that's why Yumigo planned a 6pm finish! But alone in the night, safe around the corner, I heard the horn blow signifying the 12 hours was up and I had a moment of clarity. I had achieved something even on the start line I doubted I could do. This is the beauty of ultra running ~ we can all set targets and goals, execute a plan, and sometimes, just sometimes, we have a day out.
Ron ~ yet another outstanding race. In fact, it seems every time Sportsman laces up his shoes, he's smashing another record or PB.
Kym ~ a pleasure to share the park with you mate. No matter what happens, you can always have that 101kms. 100miles is as good as in the bag!
Wida ~ I dunno where you found that pace from to get the 100, but a gutsy effort from the big guy with a big ticker.
Zacman ~ how many ultras did you say you've done? 109kms on debut is amazing. Massive potential. You showed great patience and held back early when it is really easy to be swept away with the 6 hour runners.
Sarah ~ it was not until after the event that I found out we had been running with, IMO, one of the best athletes currently running in Australia. It is rare to see such a focussed athlete, and her pedigree over 6 day events is rather humbling. Best wishes for her and Phibes' upcoming race.
And to the main man: Yumigo. Fantastic event ~ you had obviously put alot of time and effort into organising this, and it showed. The venue, the clock, the marquee, the oranguatans

Maggotman, I've never witnessed such a display of relentless speed. I've read a lot about the friendship and cameraderie between ultra runners and on saturday I experienced some of it, and I liked it. Thanks for your kind words about my shuffling style. It did mean something coming from an athlete of your calibre. Would I be correct to suggest that we all experience the same pain and doubts in such a race , just some are faster and some are slower?
