Hey Runizzyrun,
The course starts and finishes at the Cadbury Factory. Basically, you loop around Cadbury estate a few times, then follow the Derwent River to the Derwent Entertainment Centre (that is where Silverfinger/Powderchair are playing this Saturday night) and back.
The half marathon is one lap and the full is 2 laps.
A map is on the website for you to check out.
Cheers

Thanks, Welshy. I did see the map. I guess I was more wondering whether it is flat or undulating??

There are some hills/undulations - but I wouldn't even class them as the type that would effect your pace. Sort of like what you experience on the old Melbourne Marathon course in that stretch around Cheltenham or Brighton. I found them a nice change-up from the flat

I did it this year as a long run prep for 6 Foot, but pulled out at 30k. Unfortunately outside our hotel in Hobart was a street nightclub (apparently an annual event) and we weren't able to get to sleep until after 3am when it finished and the crowd dispersed. Needless to say I was lacking energy and motivation to go the whole distance! Disappointing, but I just wrote it up as a long run.
I did have the immense pleasure of seeing Hanny Alston demolish the field and just look so strong right through to the finish. She was simply awesome.

Hi PEEKIE,
I am thinking of doing the half also. There is an "unofficial" web site @ http://users.bigpond...arathon/Hobart/ which has some details including maps, accommodation etc..
One local motel offering a deal is www.riverfronthobart.com - $85 per night.
Hope you find something and enjoy the race.

Hi Peekie,
Pubic transport in Hobart is limited to buses and cabs and at that time of the morning I suspect buses will be few and far between, if there are any at all. So it may have to be a cab. I'm happy to pick you up on my way through if that helps - just not 100% sure I'll be racing this year as yet!
If you stay somewhere close the cab fare should only be $10 - $15. I noticed someone else mentioned Riverfront Lodge, which is close ~8kms away. Also, other places that should be reasonably well priced and close by would include Martin Cash Motor Lodge, Claremont Hotel Motel (although this is at the back of a pub so may be noisy), Northside Villas, or Balmoral Motor Inn. Hobart accommodation fills almost completely around that time of year so it may pay to book early.
Hope that helps!

Thanks ScottyD and runrtom,
Will check out the accomadation mentioned now and get on to booking it. Will check with you closer to race day ScottyD if you are entering and if you could pick me up on the way, that would be much appreciated.

Edit: just had a good look at the map. "Follow Main Road to the top of 10 Mile Hill" can't be good!

Great to see some talk about doing the Cadbury Marathon, nice!!
If there is demand there, I can arrange for airport pick-ups for groups if people want to liaise directly with me - richard@tasathletic.org.au Richard Welsh. Also if a few CR's are staying together, let me know and I will do my best to arrange for picks up on the morning of the race.
Funny the comment about a chocolate company sponsoring a marathon. Tell me a runner who doesn't eat chocolate. Also makes me think of the 'Flora' London Marathon......
Oh, Wombatoutofhell, don't worry too much about 10mile hill. I actually think it is named for being 10miles from the centre of Hobart, not 10 miles long.
Cheers

I am arriving on the Friday before the Marathon. Any suggestions where I can fill up on some good pasta.

La Porchetta is a quite reasonable pizza/pasta joint. Not sure if you're familiar with Hobart but there's one in Elizabeth St, North Hobart and another at the Battery Point end of Salamanca.

Its a bumper weekend of Athletics in Hobart as the Hobart Gift is on also. Hopefully they move it from Sunday arvo to Saturday evening and if they do, there will be a bit of a pasta do at the New Town oval that all people who enter the Cadbury Marathon festival of events will be invited to. So you can stock up on much needed carbs and watch some running also.
Naturally if we do, I'll let you know via www.cadburymarathon.com.au and here!
Cheers

Thanks Chess,
The name sounds familiar, may have eaten there last time I was in Hobart in 2004. It was great food but could not recall the name. This time I have written it down.

Does anybody wants a free Marathon entry? I'm pretty sure we can transfer it.
Let me know.

I am certainly running in Hobart, but as a novice still remain unsure as to whether I will do the half or attempt the full marathon. Just emailed the organisers to see if I can enrol for the marathon and make the call closer to the time.
Subject to answer above, I would be happy to transfer your enrolment and re-imburse you?

Can you guys please email me at richard@tasathletics.org.au with your personal details and I can transfer the entry over.
But I'm not getting involved in any disputes between distance runners over chocolate............

Hi
I did the marathon in January this year. It was really good but I just want to let you know just in case you don't know already that you need to take your own electrolyte drink because they only offer water on the course. At the start of the race someone takes all the drinks out to the stations for you. I didn't know but I took some gels with me luckily that helped me through the run. It can get quite humid even at 6.00am.

I'm pleased to report after negotiations with the police, that there will be a lane closure of the Brooker Highway for the Cadbury Marathon.
This is great, as it is the busiest road in Tassie and a great benefit to all competing.
Entries for the next month are still dirt cheap. $25 for members of a club registered with a state association, or $35 if not. Register at www.cadburymarathon.com.au.
Cheers

Any suggestions as to best way of getting to start line travelling from University of Tasmania, on the morning of the 6th (have accommodation there).
I imagine probably a cab?
