If I don’t do the half, I’ll definitely do the 10k and bring the kids down for a sausage to support the locals.
Maybe 2 sausages.

I was also talking with Marathon Man yesterday, and he will probably be there, finishing off, 6 Australian States, 2 Territories plus the 2 Islands of NZ, for an 'ANZAC Sweep', in the same calendar year.

The date conflict with the Razorback run is rather unfortunate, but I'm sure careful attention was paid to the scheduling.
May nature gift us with a cool day!

Awesome work getting involved in this one Brettsrun. It's a bit of a shame with the timing with this one and the Razorback run which I planning to re-visit this year.
I will get to this run one day......

I know the 10km course was a lot harder than most because of the heat/hills. Can anybody take a stab at guessing how hard the half-marathon course is, compared to a fairly flat half?
I guess the best way to do this would be to take your “normal, flat” half marathon course time and compare it to your Marysville time.
Thanks

I think the course will change this year - and if I know the trail+ crew, I guess that it will be changed to involve more trails than road. However - I ran the original 1/2 2 years ago. It was tough. At the time I was a 1:37 half marathoner (those were the days!!!) and I ran the Marysville 1/2 in just under 2 hours. Ok so it was off the back of my first marathon - but I still found it quite challenging. The heat was intense and the climb to the falls late in the run was pure nastiness. (but the descent afterwards was ace!).

ahhhh, Maryclaire, your on to me :-)
The courses are changing for sure, the long out and back to buxton on bitumen is no more, yes there are some more friendly trails, single and wide dirt road, even some nice extra climbs as you predicted for the ultra guys
Marathoners and 1/2's don't have to worry bout the extra climb though :-), of course if you want to, sign up for the longer distance :-)
I plan to get out there this weekend if I can and finalise the course, if I don't it will be soon and we will get it mapped and profiled for everyone to contemplate
but firstly need to do some you yangs stuff before entries close next week
edit - Doc says maybe the hills come in to play for the shorter distance :-) we'll see !!

Hi Cool Runners and Marysville Marathon Festival supporters,
I'm so pleased that at short notice Brett and his team from TrailsPlus.org agreed to take on the challenge of event organisers for 2011. With resources, time and volunteers stretched in the Marysville area, a lot of time was spent this year trying to find an agency to auspice the event. When last year's event organisers pulled out I must have got Brett at a weak moment and he agreed to run the show on the ground. So please assist us by running, walking, volunteering or finding some sponsorship! I'm confident that 2011 will be a great event, with updated website and entries to open in the next week or so. Look out for early bird specials with free t-shirts.
I don't see the Razorback Run on the Cool Running Calendar, but Paul Ashton's website does have it clashing. I enjoyed the "Not Wilsons Prom 100" which due to flooding down there was held on the Razorback courses in April this year. One for the mountain goats I must say but spectacular scenery. For keen beans, run the Alps on Saturday and make a weekend of it with Marysville on the Sunday!
This year the Half-marathon and Marathon have a steep hill for a minute or two, heading to Lady Talbot Drive, with the turnaround for both distances ending in a hill (planning to include Keppel Falls for the marathoners). Teagan / Jamie, a running wheelchair suitable for fairly smooth dirt walking tracks and packed gravel forest roads should manage the Half-Marathon course, but not the Marathon where the track to the falls involves a few wooden steps at the end. If concerned about either, come up and have a training run, or ask us to send you a few photos.
Look forward to seeing everyone at You Yangs, Melbourne Marathon and Marysville! Lachlan Fraser, Race Patron (sounds dignified, may I'll have to start running in a suit)

The bush is lush, the rivers and water falls are just glorious.
The course will add some challenges with some climbs where you will enjoy some walking breaks, but the spectacular views will dull the already numb legs :-)
The 1/2 Marathoners, 10km and 4km are exempt from some of the bigger climbs, but still get some nice rolling trails to play on :-)
Hope to have Web and Registration open in a couple of days
C U there in November

Signed up for the 50km version. I certainly do hope that te weather is going to be much cooler has a couple of years ago, where I was boiled to the bone at the end of the 1/2 marathon. But the area is fantastic and just can't resist spending a bit longer on the course. And the offer to jump in the pool at the finish is just too good.
Excellent website Brett, just wonder were you find all that time, but keep it up. Will go for a little run out in Marysville tomorrow, to check how te bush has recovered so far. See you all in marysville!!

New here.
Have been running for about a year now and am thinking about doing the half Marysville marathon as my first marathon. Is this a wise idea? I would imagine it will be a lot steeper than something like the run melbourne etc.
Peoples thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi DeeCee,
Assuming you have built up the distance in your training, there is no reason not to try the Marysville 1/2 marathon. In fact, you might enjoy it a bit more, as the scenery is so much better, and the trails a bit more exciting than the flats of Melbourne's half. You don't have to be too worried about those hills, the are good for you. Unless of course you want to run a smashing PB...
See you at Marysville!

HiCool runner,
Thanks for the reply.
My name is David by the way.
I haven't run that far before but have been running a couple of times a week for the last few months and getting fit at the gym etc. I am planning to ramp this up and start running 3 times a week and increase the distance on each week. I have 60 something days so i think I should be good by start day.
As this will be my 1/2 marathon as long as I finish it I will be happy with the time and it will be a PB

Hi Tim,
I went for a run in Marysville last weekend, to have a look at the trail. By coincidence I bumped into Brett and I think DocLach (they were both incognito dressed in cycling outfits
I did run the loop around Lady Talbot Drive and Sunset Road, in the opposite direction as planned for the Marathon and the Ultra. I have never set foot on the Sunset Road before, and I promise you, it is a nice little climb. Once on the top you get some great views from the area and deep into to valley below. Here are some photo's and an elevation chart from this run. Marysville Loop
Cheers Erwin.

I was going to run my first marathon tomorrow (Melbourne Marathon) but have a bad case of tonsillitis - devastated to say the least!
So I am now considering the Marysville Marathon - but my PT ran it last year and said it was challenging.
With the change in course this year is it harder, easier or the same as last year?
Do you think it will be ok for a first marathon?
Any running tracks around the Eastern suburbs I can practice on that are similar terrain as Marysville?
Apologies lots of questions - I'm obviously a bit anxious especially not knowing the area.
Any feed back really appreciated.

Good Luck to those who are running Melbourne Marathon (NOW) winner will be heading for home as I type
Hope your recovery goes well and Marysville is on your list as your next hit out.
Some profiles will be posted on the Website soon - please note the course may have a slight variation as final track approvals are confirmed, but for the most part what you see on the website is where you will run.
The Ultra Marathon is very challenging for those familiar with Maroondah Dam / Mt Macedon Trail runs there are some similarities
The Marathon is challenging and has far more climbing then a typical city Marathon, however you do get to run down everything you go up
The half Marathon has some small hills and gradual ascents and descents
The 10Km heads to Steavenson Falls and is an incline to the falls then a rolling river trail and dirt road section on return
The 4km is a 2km gentle climb to the turn around then rolling river trail back to the oval
My thoughts re first time marathoners, it is a magic place to achieve your first marathon, but know it is tough, enjoy the scenery, walk the ascents, take a little time to reflect on where you are and why your there.
Dont expect it to be a fast time, no one will achieve a PB here, unless of course it is your first Marathon.
I am a sub 4hr Marathon runner, My time over the course will be considerably longer?
