Hi all!

I know we have a thread dedicated to the marathon but not one for the rest of the distances... art imitating life?!

Anyways, up until this morning I had plans to do the 12km but as I rode my bike to work this morning I realised that date wise this event is 3 weeks out from the Sydney Running Festival and I have decided I'll be tackling the full marathon there...yeep!

Anyways, this thread is for ppl to discuss ALL the distances of the C2S...

So... who's doing what?!  :LMAO:

PS. Pls tell me there isn't already a thread for this that I managed to miss!

Not sure...I'm tempted by the marathon just because of the "I wuz there" factor. Either that or the 12, I wouldn't bother with the half. Depends how I feel after the Perth marathon!

I am intending to do the half but like you 20CB it will depend how I pull up after the Perth marathon and whether I can put in 4-5 weeks of training, I certainly would not be able to do another marathon so close together!!!!! :LMAO:

I think it might be the 4km for me with the kiddlywinks. I will hopefully be post Perth 42.2 and pre Melbourne 42.2 so its okay with me. But doing the inaugural marathon would be fun....

It will be the 12k again for me.  It's not my favourite race but I'm determined to stick at it until I break the 60 minute barrier.

This may be my backup marathon plan if I don't make the Perth one. Having some foot issues at the moment and will miss at least a week of running. If it stretches out to a fortnight or more then Perth will definitely be off as I will be too underprepared. I guess aother alternatives would include Geraldton or Rotto?

Ditto for gregory's comments.. I'm hoping I'll be prepared enough to give the Perth marathon a crack in July, but if things don't go completely to plan I'll hold off my marathon aspirations until C2S. I'd rather run Perth though because it's an easier course! Man the 2nd half of the C2S marathon course looks like it would be hard on tired legs.. It was bad enough on fresh legs as a half marathon!

I'll definitely do something at the C2S though. Most likely the half I guess, the 12K is a bit too busy for my taste and the 4K isn't worth getting out of bed for :LMAO:

Me too - if my feet get much worse C2S is my back up! I would love to run the first C2S marathon.

But like Orlando I will run the 12k in a bid to sub 60  :LMAO: .

I'm in for the 12k as well. I will (all going to plan) have done a half marathon by then, so I could do the half... but I loved the atmosphere of the 12k last year. It was so cool to see all those people stacked up along the terrace and be part of the biggest race in Perth.

Last year I was just returning to running so ran 1:23:xx if I remember correctly?  :LMAO: So I'd better beat that! Sub 70 would be nice but might be unrealistic.

I plan to be there this year but it will depend on whether I am working or not. Still not sure what distance I will go for as I intend to go barefoot and not sure where I will be at conditioning wise.

Would like to have been on board with you all for more events so far this year but I have really been focusing on the Kep and previously the Mt Helena 40 miler. When the Kep is over I will start to do more events ( not long to go now...)

This will hopefully be my first marathon. Planning on doing the Perth Half before it though.

Am scared stiff, but can't wait at the same time!!!
Am going great at the moment in training so hopefully the hills won't get me at the end.

Cheers

I would love to bring forward my marathon aspiration by a year and run the inaugural City to Surf Marathon. But realistically speaking, chances seem slim seeing that the furtherst I have run is 22K and can't take the cold to train at 5.30am during Winter.

However, I am keeping this at the back of my mind and if I manage to brave the cold and able to increase my mileage then it will happen.

Otherwise, the priority will be the half marathon distance over the 12K.

Mjail - good to see you back, welcome home. Why not try the Rottnest Mara or Busselton in a team - you could just get a rider and do the swim too!

It will be my first marathon, and will be dragging 4 other's with me for the ride, 3 other first timers and a 2 time London Marathoner.  I was considering the Perth marathon as the course seems alot easier but I checked out the results for the last few years and there isn't enough competitors for my liking.  I need the atomosphere and the hords of volunteers to keep me going.  Am in 1st week of training after Busso half IM, feeling good except a groin injury.

Am following the Perth C2S website plan for intermediate runners, just looked like a good plan, and fitted into my lifestyle well.  Did the first week twice, started training officially 18 weeks before, but the plan is 17 weeks.
Going great guns so far. :LMAO:

You'll be surprised how okay it is training at 5.30am in winter once you get out there. I hate the cold, but for running the cooler weather is actually pretty good. On the coldest days, rug up with skins, a long sleeve running top, gloves and a beanie and you'll be fine (mostly I'm desperate to get rid of the layers after 20 minutes!). I trained for Rotto, 2 years ago, and Melbourne, last year, through the winter, beginning my training in the coldest and wettest months, and training through July, August and September. This time I'm aiming for Perth and have to say the mornings have been glorious.
Give it a go, you might find winter running is actually good fun

I just had a look at it, looks good and very nicely laid out with the quotes and recipes! Someone has gone to a lot of effort there.

Welcome to CR Robdog - I can't help with time predicting as I have no maths section in my brain at all for some reason, but good luck. Once you have some of the longer runs under your belt you'll have a better idea. One day you'll be winning marathons and we'll all be able to say we knew of you when you were just a 1.30 Halfer!

Pace calculators would have you aim for about 3:10 based on your HM time. I'm guessing that you may not have years of decent mileage (at least 75k p/w average) behind you because of your age, so I would treat that estimate with caution and aim for 3:15-3:20. Marathon times are all about endurance, and if you don't have good endurance (which takes at least 3-5 years of solid mileage) the pace calculator estimates will be optimistic. You're never going to do your best marathon time in your first one, so you should primarily aim to finish (ie. set a conservative target) and enjoy it. C2S is a tough marathon course, but scenic enough to be a fun race.

Have a look at the McMillan site which has heaps of great info, especially the theory behind the different types of training. This is a link to the pace calculator.

Welcome home too, Lou ! Hmmm, I wonder if the City to Surf or Rottnest Marathon is tougher ?

I agree that the current temperatures in the mornings are just glorious. Yep, I will try and continue to run even when the mornings get really cold. Problem are my joints ache in Winter and I always seem to have a runny nose when I run (even in Summer). In Winter, my nose will freeze off.
We have not crossed paths while running, have we ? I assume your training route is at Deepwater Point too ? If I am not mistaken, we did say "hi" to each other abt 6 mths ago when you were on your bicycle ?

My nose runs all the time, too; don't worry about it :LMAO: Fortunately my running mates have their issues, too, so we deal with one another's foibles quite happily.
And yes, I've definitely see you around Deepwater Point. Mostly I run in South Perth, King's Park and Darlington as I meet up with others, but DWP is my local so if I'm heading out on my own I'll do that one. Hope to see you out there (I'll be the other one with a runny nose :D

P.S. I love Rotto - it's a friendly course and though the hills are tiring, they're not that tough, especially if you train the hills (having said that, lap 4 the hills just seem to get bigger!). CS2 will be tough, but if you've done the half there, you should have an idea. If you like hills, you'll enjoy it, but the hills will be in the second half when you're tired, so be prepared if you do that one.

Hi folks

Will be my first marathon too... I'm following the prime health beginner training except my long runs are usually about 25-30km, so I've given myself two rest days a week and added the difference in km's to make for a longer weekend run (may or may not be the right thing to do?!).  I have a bit of trepidation about the hills at the end of the C2S course (I did the 12km last year) but as darlington was my first half I figure I might as well give it a crack!!

thanks for the advice, iv been running athletics and crosscountry for the last few years at school (nothing near 75k p/w) so i will be taking it easy in the marathon. i think il aim for under 3:30.

Just as a passing comment... i think its fantastic to see so many enthusiatic perth runners who are commenting on this site! its pretty lonely sometimes when im running out on the streets but events like the C2S and you guys here show that theres a lot of people out there committed to there health, striving to achieve goals and enjoying running at the same time. keep it up!

Welcome back Mjail, I am sure you had a great time! By the way how did the race in Malaysia go?  As for training in winter, yes it can be hard sometimes but I am sure you will get used to it - do you wear tights?  I find them great on cold mornings.  Let us know what you decide with the marathon!

Robdog, yes there are many enthusiastic Perth runners out there and a great CoolRunners community as well, hope to get to meet you soon!

Good luck everyone with your Perth C2s training, mine will not start until a week or two after the Perth marathon! :LMAO:

Thanks, Pelagie ! As usual I could not resist the food and ate far too much.
As for the race, would you believe that once a female is over 35, she is deemed a VETERAN ? Sure, makes me feel old ! Anyhow, it was an experience running in such high humidity and I was soaking wet after the race. I was surprised that they only had 1 water station and it did not even serve water but an isotonic drink. I'd rather have water.

Forgot to stop my watch but I think I did just under 56 mins for the 11K race which I am very happy with. And to top it off, I got 9th placing and won RM180 worth of petrol vouchers. The first 3 of each category even had cash prizes and 4th-15th were given petrol vouchers. The race was sponsored by BHP and it was free of entry fees and there was free breakfast served after the race too.

My running attire is limited to my shorts and singlets/T-shirts. Might just have to start buying tights or skins and the pink skirt !

Sorry, bones if I have not said hello to you as I used to be an antisocial runner and just looked straight ahead but lately I have done a 100% turnaround and started looking at other runners/walkers and greeting them or smiling at them. So, if you should see me could you yell out that it is you, bones as my eye sight is blurrish when I run too. ( I seem to have a lot of minor problems when I run, don't know why)

I will definitely be taking part in the C2S this year... just unsure which distance!  I would like to follow up the Perth marathon and do the C2S HM.  However, I will only have been back in Perth for a week after a five week holiday (which may involve limited running)!

I guess time will tell.  Good luck to everyone in their training!

Are you the only one excited about this Kilee....LOL

But yes - the marathon is my goal - and it will become real once I pay my $95....... currently in week 3 of the Prime Health Beginner training - but have entered both the Beginner and Intermediate into a spreadsheet and doing an in between of them.

101 Days to go!
I'm excited paid my $101.5 $95 +$6.50 postage unless you want to go into Rebel Sport in Town to pick up you number. 101 days sounds a lot more than 14 and a bit weeks.

interesting - sounds like they are not making people go into the convention centre to pick up their number like previous years.

The alternative being a trip into the new major sponsor's shop where you will be enticed to buy some new Asics shoes and runnging gear in order to be eligible for the Asics on the day competetion, eligibility being head to toe wearing Asics.  B)

I believe they are trying to make this expo really big and have approached many to take part. Running skirts are going to have a stall selling these, injinji socks, spi belts and so on.

I will leave my entry until I know what distance I'm running  :yahoo:

My mistake from the web site

Q: How do I receive/collect my race pack?
A: When you register you will be given two options:
a) collect your race pack at the Event Expo
:yahoo: have your race pack posted to you for an additional fee
NB: after August 9 the postal option will be closed and you will not be given this option at time of registration.

Q: Can someone else collect my race pack for me?
A: Yes. Identification will be required and the person collecting the race pack will be required to present a copy of your registration confirmation (printout).

Q: Where do I collect my race pack?
A: Race packs must be collected from the Event Expo at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on the following dates:

OPENING TIMES
Thursday August 27
Friday August 28
Saturday August 29 10.00am – 7.00pm
10.00am – 7.00pm
9.00am – 5.00pm

Did anyone get the email from C2S (prolly only if you did it last year)?
They have a feature on people training for the marathon...the 3 blokes they featured said they were "doing 25km a week, hopefully moving to 35km a week nearer the marathon".  :yahoo:
And I thought I was low doing about 50-60km / week!

I assumed they were talking about their long runs and the were misquoted by some non-running marketing person who didn't understand  ... heaven help them if that's the weekly total!

possibly... but have you look at the training plans they have up on the net?  With 13 weeks to go (4 weeks) to C2S the beginner marathon training plan only has people running 31km + 2 hills for the whole week.

edit: though that wouldn't explain the "35km nearer the marathon" ... By week ten they are at 50km with over half on Sunday.

Yes now that you mention it I think you're probably right...those distances would be about right.

Are you doing the C2S marathon?

I'll be doing it hopefully but as a training run - it's a great course (though challenging) and would be heaps of fun to do. Rottnest is my next target race, but at the moment am struggling with a mystery leg injury - I've only run 5 times (with 7.5km being the longest) since the Boston Marathon on April 20!

Just noticed from the website that they've revamped the finish areas and also are going to separate the half and marathoners from the 12k runners along the course. Sounds like they've listened to past complaints, sounds like a good improvement to me.

That is good news, is one reason I was thinking I wouldn't want to run the full. I hope it is 'policed' better than they police the self seeded starts  :yahoo:

I might have a go at the half marathon instead of the 12k. It's nicely spaced after Perth half and would be a bit harder (not that I think Perth will be easy... :yahoo: )
And it's a bargain! $45 gets you a T-shirt, medal, and powerade + gu's on stations. The 12 is $37.50 - no T-shirt, gus or powerade.
