Mark,
Did you get in? I thought you & Weston had already entered. I am laid up for hopefully only 2 weeks with a spot of tendonitis but planning on a start. My entry was done the weekend 6ft was cancelled.

Physio said 4 weeks with my foot in a boot but i said "bugger that" maybe 2 weeks at the most that leaves me 2 weeks to do some sort of training before Mt Solitary. Hoping that all the hard work for Glenbrook (postponed x 1 then cancelled) then 6ft (cancelled) carries me through. Doing running in the pool with no impact every day to keep fitness up but its not the same.
I am concerned that I have done so much on & off tapering since Glenbrook was supposed to be on the first time that I haven't had any real solid training patches.

Any advice from all the experienced runners out there.

Cheers,
Grahame

Is there anyone else out there looking to do this in a "steady" 7 - 8 hour pace depending on weather conditions? I think I've finally come round to running this, but for safety and enjoyability, I would really rather run it with at least one other person.

I think you will have ample company in the 8hour pace.and a few behind that pace, I'm a 6hr .6ft runner and they say to add 2hrs to your 6ft time,so i'm hoping for 8hrs or a bit better.

Some also say to double your marathon time ?  So looks like I am out for a 6:40 race.  Might be safe and plan for 7 plus as I have never run this course but looking forward to the challenges it offers, and compare against my backyard - the GNW.

Thanks for the advice otisr and denjah, but unfortunately it looks like I left my run a little late and the registration process tells me it is sold out. Never mind, I'm (newly) local so I'll give it a go next year.

RD, I don't suppose there is a waiting list for this?

if not, good luck to all, enjoy the spectacular views, and I'll cheer you on from the top of furber steps

Sorry Guy's no waitlist. We took a small number of runners into account for this with our original numbers.

Look's like the race is going to be very fast up front, any one of about 5 guy's could win this one.

I'm in - another "SFT Tragic" who didn't want to waste all the training I'd done for that, and then discovered this amazing event!

A look at the course profile and with all the earlier comments suggesting to double your marathon time, or add 2hrs to your SFT time has reinforced that I'll be throwing all finish time expectations out the window and going totally by feel, taking it nice and easy and just enjoying this first attempt!

I found out quite by accident the other day that two friends of mine have also entered [father and son, NF100 vet's] so that was a nice surprise.

Just as a matter of interest, does anyone know how many steps there are from Wentworth Falls down into the valley [similar/less/more than the 500'ish at Nellie's Glen?]

See you Sunday week!

Cheers
Toffy

Hi Toffy

You should love this race - it is a very spectacular course and one to enjoy!

You can breathe a sigh of relief as there are no stairs going into the valley, just a lovely smooth firetrail down for about six k's before you hit some single track down to the river.  And then it is up, and up, and up!!!

The only real stairs are Furber Steps leading up to the first aid station - not sure how many are there though!  Probably just enough to make you appreciate the aid station when you get there!!

Good luck!
Lyndal

Please note Gaylord Focker that I am only the humble ARD, and there is nothing esteemed about myself!!! Also my maths was never that good there is a pretty decent line up not limited to the numbers mugs like me put up here.

If you stay tunned to 168 I believe that you will get all the info you want from there some time soon...

Can't wait to see another 'blow hole' on Kedumba mate, seriosuly let us know where the hire company should put the stand.

I have had an injury for the last few weeks and it might not be good enough to run on (but am still keeping fingers crossed).
But if I do decide to DNS what are my options ?
I tried the info book and website but didn't see anything.
Can I give my entry away or sell it ?
If not and I forfeit it, do I still get my Tshirt sent ?

Hello Kevin,

If you DNS you still can pick up your shirt. Our race terms are at the bottom of the overview of Season 2 as seen here. Also there is no transfers of entries.

Our Race Terms
  • Refund policy on major races – 50% refund up to 7 days prior to race, then no refunds within 7 days.
Obviously our cut off date for refunds is Sunday.

Thanks

If the rumours are true this field is a cracker!!! look forward to a preview.

I can't speak highly enough of the Mt Solitary race director - Luke Doyle, he is such a great guy - I requested some course info so he kindly sent me a photo of the course & i've spent all my time since six foot specifically preparing for it..........

Preview and predictions are up people: http://ultra168.com/...-ultra-preview/

This one is too close to call in both male and female. There will be a few quality runners not sitting on the podium this year.

Woohoo and yay to be finally free of PF in time for next Sunday's big race !

A long 10ish weeks has passed since my right foot went bang on the last lap of Knapsack. That's right, 10+ weeks of walking and mixed-up forward-backward treadmill fun, plenty of couch time and ball rolling, more than a few wines. Add in a long 6 foot taper, throw in several midweek 'trail' runs along abandoned railway tracks (harder than you might think, note to self- always remember to turn around on these, out AND back is good...), a fun 10 hr mt solitary trip in lieu of 6 ft and a few weekend Lsd outings fueled by panadol and getting friendly with a 3hr 33 minute wall I didn't know about (yes exactly 3:33). Note to self - Powerbars are great but remember to eat them.

Km per week- no don't even go there, time on the ground is what it has been about. Now the extended taper +/- recovery, + walk, -run time is over, so bring on the singletrack baby. First big test (or should I say rest) will be a nice little climb up Mt Sol starting shortly after the first creek crossing.

Good luck to those of you running next weekend who have been struggling with injuries as well. Hope you make it to the start line fully recovered and ready to roll. Posted Image

I must have run another Mt Solitary. The scenery looks similar but I can't recall seeing the power poles? Can't wait for Sunday. Forecast is for huge rains the next few days. Could it be another wshout like 6FT? Hope not, as I can't keep training forever!!

Ran along the single track out of Katoomba towards Solitary on Saturday (before turning off up Golden Stairs), and there's a fair few trees down right now along there... including one section where there's a decent sized tree(s) down and that could potentially cause some hold-ups if there are quite a few people coming towards the scenic railway at any one time.

If it's not moved before Sunday (been there 2 weeks now), be patient people, don't hurry people up, it's a little tricky to negotiate... it's only running...

We have been keeping an eye on the course and during the Cox's River flooding all the creek crossing's on the course were able to be crossed, so despite the wet weather we are hoping for a race not interupted by weather!!!! Judging by Running Wild track record it will hopefully be our first dry race this year...

Sure is, plenty of room at The Hospital. Just please make sure not to park infront of the couple of private driveways just past the hospital. Happy neighbours mean more races :)

See you all there guys & girls. There's a few of us Hunter Valley people heading down. Can't wait to finally have a race after Glenbrook & then 6ft cancelled. Hope the weather is good enough to allow a nice scenic race. Not sure how the physio will fit in my drop bag but I'll have to think about that one. :Smug:

It is with massive regret that the Mount Solitary Ultra Marathon which was to be held this Sunday 22nd April has been postponed. Heavy rainfall this week has resulted in the Sydney Catchment Authority closing access to their reserves around Sydney, including the Kedumba Valley. This morning we received advice that this closure would remain in effect all weekend.
We recognise the inconvenience caused, however the SCA have a task to perform and too much of the Mt Solitary course is in Catchment land to re-route the event.
We are currently considering options on the deferment of the race. We will make an announcement next week.
Regards,
The Committee

Gutted. This is really just getting ridiculous. Can we stop scheduling runs until the day before so the weather gods don't have time to ruin it for us?

Is the course still closed to those that may want to do a fat ass style run on some or all of the loop?  Maybe i might do 6ft / 12ft instead.

There is a group of us heading out Sunday morning at 7 from Katoomba to do a 45 km / 50 km loop via Narrowneck and Dunphys and back up Nellies Glen. There are a few that fit into the faster category, closer to your rarified air....(not incl me!)...but you are welcome to join us. PM me your email and I will send you details (Was that you at the corner of Willoughby Rd and Mowbray last night at about 6pm?)

Is there any chance to reschedule before TNF or would it necessarily be after, if at all?

How about 20th May - most of us are up there that weekend anyway.

The SMH Half is on that same day. The RunningWild Committee should consider possible clashes with other events when setting a new date as it won't be fair to those who have already forked out nearly $100 for the SMH Half to have to forfeit that race for Mt Solitary.
