Specific Questions About Moderating

So, I'm whinging here.
I had a post. It's gone.
Looking at the timeline in the thread, I assume several other posts are gone too.
Is my memory fuzzy or was there a general consensus that if your post gets killed, the Mod would let you know why?
I know I didn't say anything offensive.

I remember your post that you are speaking about - you were suggesting another cool runner follow his/her own advice.
There have been three moderators fielding reported posts about comments on that thread and in my case several DMs and even a phone call.
The threaded gmail between the three moderators has almost 10 conversations between us this evening.
It was decided that all references to the issue we were dealing with be removed ( that was the context of the removal of several posts) with warnings issued where appropriate.
Hope this sets the scene a bit better for you.

yes i've had a few pretty bland posts disappear, but none recently.
just retype your post and put it in there again, and make a note to others that it might disappear. when i've done that, it's stayed the second time.
the thread where the gay runner was wanting to meet other gay runners had posts disappearing fairly frequently, with no mod feedback, and none of the ones i saw disappear were a problem... in my opinion.
thanks kevin.
actually kevin puts more work into his reasons than a mod really has to.
thanks to plu too, who seems to give reasons when he acts on stuff.

Earlier this evening we went down that path and then decided to take the latest course of action- I guess it also depends on when people pop into a certain thread as to whether they know what is going on.

I believe that sometimes cleaning a thread so it reads well for x thousand people is better than have a thread with "post removed" "post removed" on every other post as its hard to read and just raises more questions than it answers.
If someone really wants to know why not email info@coolrunning.com.au and ask ?
Does every bit of everyones dirty laundry need to be aired in public ? The answer is probably "not 100% of the time"
If you ask and we give an unsatisfactory answer then happy for you to slag us down in public.
For people wondering what the F is going on - Ironkid's usual provacateur posted his usual crap, that was then responded to by a bunch of people, tynomite included. We had some "report" the behaviour, and decided to remove all the posts. The person concerned will have all his posts monitored by a mod before they become public - any continuing bad behaviours will see that account/email address banned, as per usual procedure.

Geez Kevin, I'm not sure that should ever happen. Polite query in public as to what happened, sure, but slagging off the mods? I would hope we don't see too much of that.
IMHO, the vast majority of CR members, are really just guests on somebody elses website. The "owner" for want of a better term, has used their discretion to allow certain members moderating rights. That is a judgement call of the owner, and also their right. If we wish to post here, then we know we need to behave, we shouldn't need reminding.
Sure, if you have a post deleted or moderated it may be nice to be told why, but if you don't like the response, you always have the option of avoiding the website, or setting up your own sight where you can do/say whatever you want.
Just my 2c.

'Provocateur' means 'trouble maker' basically. So someone who was trying to stir you up.
Congrats on your race BTW

Not an excuse for bad behaviour, but the above is a reason why so much flak seems to accompany this poster...i.e. a naive lack of understanding of what others are saying sometimes, which lead into unnecessary circular arguments.

Hey Swaggers,
I can't believe that they have banned Lamer as well - that must almost be a record - one post and banned! All he was trying to do was keep the "Are lame threads lame" going too. No nasty stuff, no finger pointing, no swearing, no picking on anyone, no trawling, no baiting, no playing the man, nothing to contravene the rules that I can tell etc. Just wanting to contribute in his own Lame way.

ron-of-the-ever-changing-names also chipped in.
neither post was offensive. sure it could be considered juvenile, but removing it was unnecessary.
just stop the "lamer" poster posting under that name again. they'd had their little joke.
no explanation was given for the disappearances.

I responded with "Lame but very funny. Your old mate Lamererer." In biggererer words. Yes immature and not at all PC but pretty harmless really.
For Admiin. to just delete this without an explanation gives the impression that a really offensive exchange took place. It is wrong of the moderators to allow that impression to continue through not explaining their actions.
Rowan I only have one account up and running. I have never really hidden my ID. Most CRs know who I am. How do I know you aren't Lamer? How do I know Rudi isn't Admin.? How do I know whiter hole isn't Lamer - oh I do know. So it is a transparent bit of fun. He is playing on the name lame to make a joke. Gee go figure. The most heinous crime ever on CR.
It is more offensive when opportunists use such things to , for instance, slag others as juvenile.
Recall the old saying: "A truth told with ill-intent is worse than the lies one can invent."
Cheers,
Swagger.

ps I called the mods a nasty word in a PM to Swaggerer and Swaggers pulled me up for it (probably quite rightly) so I think swaggers has been delt harshly and deserves some answers to his questions.

you created an account called Lame and posted shit.
As pointed out before:
Quote
So we "banned" the account. However you are not banned, you can keep posting.
So you have created another account called Lamer and posted more shit.
You want to know why we deleted the posts and "banned" it ? Figure it out.
Post shit under your own name but we do not want to let you set a precedent of creating more and more accounts to post shit. USE YOUR ACCOUNT.
This was exactly why we "banned" some of Ron's accounts (I should check to confirm they are all "banned" other than his current one). He never understood either but its simple: You are not allowed to create multiple accounts to cause tropuble, post shit and generally waste peoples time/effort in reading. Its a running website and in my own opinion as "president" of CoolRunning we give people a lot of leeway in what they are allowed to post. However it's not "anything goes". We only have a few rules, play by them or face the consequences.
If you keep creating accounts I will keep banning them. I have more patience than you. Trust me.

I think whiter holes posts are funny and harmless. I think he created the account to have some innocent fun. Like he said no put downs or anything offensive which others seem to rely on and indeed embrace.
Kev. I have never created an account to cause trouble. That is just your misguided opinion. You rationalise more than a pregnant woman on speed.
Colsy. So the Lame thread bores you? Turn your Ipod up.
Better still go to site that interests you. Clearly real runners bore you. Try the Colour Co -ordination for Discerning Wanna-be Distance Runners.
FTP: You're a classic bully. Get a lend of Colsy's Ipod. There is a song on there about you. " I am blogger I blog when everyone is on my side."
Don't worry WH. These guys clearly have the moderators on side. FTP, Kev et al have made more humourless, witless and offensive remarks then you or have put together. We may not win mate but at least we can see through their bullshit. And that is what riles them most.

Its not the thread that is boring me. You remind me of a guy we have here at work. He is fine so long as he is not under stress. He is nice and friendly and willing to help. But as soon as he gets under stress he starts pointing the finger at everyone around him and dobbing in his mates.
The Depression thread is a hit with some and useful to many, I am thinking you could benefit from starting up a Manic thread.

I think that when a lurker shows up periodically to take a shot at a particular poster or posters whilst they are in a debate that he or she isn't engaged in - it is somewhat obsessive.

Now, now everyone let's play the ball and play nice.
When I first logged on as Lame, Tim arguably did the right thing by the rules and banned me for an hour or so from using the Lame account. I didn't have a problem with that but the subsequent banning I found very hard to understand when I went to great lengths to explain to Tim and others that I wanted to use the "lame" name rather than whiter hole (I even PM'd Tim). I only wanted to change my alias to change the 'whiter hole' name to something I liked more. It also just happened to be topical at the time with the Lame thread. I still think 'Whiter hole' is a stupid name (how I got that name is a whole other story) and I would rather be Lame but I can't physically make the name change and in any case the Lame account is banned. To then ban 'Lamer' was even more hard to understand for the reasons above but unfortunately in our world there are those that have power that feel the needs to exercise it. Shit happens - I can't convinve them (I've tried) so I hace to accept it. I like swagger have never created an account to use for trouble - only for fun which I know a few have appreciated. FPT I'm not the one that needs to get my head "out of my arse" as you so eloquently put! I'll move on with my dumb name!

WH. They say the measure of a good man is how they behave in an argument. I think you have done well. Your protagonists have let the CoolRunning community down again. I can't see why Lame was rejected. It is censorship of a relatively inoffensive name.
