Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a pair of trail shoes and was wondering if anyone knows which ones would be the equivalent or similar to the Asics Kayanos.  I wear these road running and do so due to a previous achilles injury.  I would like to have a separate pair of trail shoes as I hope to increase my trail running over the next few months.

thanks in advance,

Rach

I like wearing the Kayanos but started running a lot of trails in the past 18 months and I like running trails in Asics Trabuco. I did a trail marathon in them.

I also wear kayanos on the road and trabucos on trail. The only problem with the trabucos is I find my feet get very hot in them, much hotter than any other trail shoe I have worn before.

i knew it would not be long before you hit the trails.  Thinking of the GNW are we.......?

I also use kayanos on the road, as well as Nike Zooms, Lunarglides, etc.  But on the trail i have used mostly Brooks Cascadias.  They have a nice feel, good grip and nice fit. I also use gel Trabucca and find they cloely match a kayano.  Not sure how they go in hot weather, but for trails - they are good.

I have also used Salomon XA Pros and find they have a nice grip, good feel, but still prefer the Cascadias.I am now looking for a new shoe, the boys at Ultra 168 are trialling the new Salomons - they are a good shoe and should be seriosly considered.

Good luck and let us know your choice.

Maybe Salomon XT Wings? Lots of cushioning and aome support and a similarly outrageous price tag.

I am a long way off the GNW Otis but certainly inspired by you all!  I would love to complete the 6ft track one day....but need to get a qualifying time first!  My marathon debut was 11mins off this year - doh!

I think it is the goretex lining (making the shoe waterproof) that causes the extra heat - do you (and anyone else) think that a waterproof trail shoe is a necessary addition to trail shoes?

In Newcastle is the only place you can get Salomon's at Mountain Gear in town?  I didn't find any Trabucos at REbel or the Athletes foot, only online.

I used to always buy my shoes from a retail store but now i find it easier to just find a shoe I'm interested in, go read up on reviews and buy from an online store.  My wife recently bought me a pair of XA Pro 3D Ultras (was watching over my shoulder one night when I was reading a review).  The way I see it, you should never buy someone a pet for a present nor should buy someone shoes  :Shame On You:, but it's the thought that counts
Anyway, I've had them for about 1 mth and I've run about 120k's in them.  Not much I know, but after the initial few runs where I developed blisters (just like a lot of the reviews stated), I must say that they are a very comfortable shoe to run in.  They fit like a glove and have a nice cushioning feel, very stable but a little on the heavy side. This is the online store I usually use.

Happy shoe shopping :)
