Progressing nicely

Posted by youngrunner , 26 April 2012 · 198 views

Have had an interesting week as I begin the process of rebuilding mileage. After my pleasing long run on the weekend I backed up with 9km on Monday and was going fine until my left knee buckled at about 6km mark and had a sharp pain for a few seconds, then returned to normal and I finished off really strong. Didn't think much of it until it buckled again as I walking to my physio appointment the next day for my ankle.

Physio was full of good news though - firstly that my ankle/shin splints were healing beautifully and I was cleared to increase mileage and even run on back to back days and do some tempo work but no hill repeats or sprints so happy with that. He then had a quick look at my knee and laughed and said that I just needed to make sure I stretched more regularly and thoroughly - my quads and hammies were so tight after my runs that they were pulling on my knee. Big relief.

Yesterday was ANZAC Day and I banged out 12km in 57 flat in a drenching rain and chilly 11 degrees. Body felt strong and it was definitely one of those sessions that I will file away for mental strength at the 35km mark of the marathon when it all seems too hard.
